THANK YOU VERY MUCH for posting this. I've got the same exact unit and have put around 25+ cord of wood through it and getting ready to replace some parts such as the belts, spring, and a thorough internal cleaning. Have been keeping the engine maintained and giving it some good globs of grease on the rack/pinion gears and behind the shoe on the rail to help lubricate the motion. So far has been a huge time saver. One of my belts is completely off the iron pulley and looks like has been for some time, but it keeps chugging with one belt. Your video gave me a good look at the internals of this beast and ideas on what I need to order from QVTools.
Same problem I had with the same model thanks for the walk through. I just went out and bought a Wolfridge hydrolic splitter which does a much better job. I know this power king is simple but can't do the job I wanted. I'm just going to fix it and sell for $1000. It not made for narly wood
They have a new more robust model I'm purchasing today. After my repair I've not had another problem. I do toss aside the knarley wood pieces though rather than banging through them like I did in the past. I love the speed of this type of splitter.
With the width of the teeth on the pinion being much wider than the rack I'd be highly tempted to add some of the old rack as some additional bearing surface.
If you can do this it would be very wise. I have a Timber Champ that broke a tooth on the pinion gear. It was exactly due to what you pointed out. Now I’ll be getting a Super Split...they use a much wide rack, parts are from USA and do not have those failures.
Hey a bud great video there! I have a woodmax 34 ton with the same issue and the engagement lever is also wobbled out. Good job done how is yours running now?
I would estimate over 10 cord but we kept banging on some stupid knotty pieces of wood and now if it does not split after 2x we toss it aside. Not very many pieces fall into this category. Since I repaired it I've split 5 to 6 cord with no problems. Their new splitter has a limiter which supposedly prevents over stressing the log splitter.

How many hours or cords of wood have been put through this splitter before it needed this ?
