George had disagreements with both parties. Although I would say that many of his stances were more left leaning than right leaning, but only in so far as that he was pretty much pro-caring. Keep in mind, that he was an anti-establishment comedian during the era of the hippy, so that should really kind of inform you of where he stood on a lot of subjects. He supported things like housing, good healthcare, helping the poor, civil rights, workers rights, anti-war, etc. I think the best way to describe him was that he was anti-stupid, he frequently poked fun at things he felt didn't make a lot of sense or were hypocritical.

Everything he did and said, was punching from the left. Abortion was one of the issues he was most vocal about in attacking the right wing, but he largely ignored Republicans because he knew the were entirely a lost cause. No Republican or right-leaning Libertarian should in any way consider Carlin an ally. He would have plenty to say about Democrats, too, but as feckless, phony leftists. Understand in his time, and even more so in later years, there was nothing like an organized, politically potent 'left' in the USA. Only recently has there been a more progressive, left-leaning presence in American politics. Carlin criticized everyone, he was great social commenter, but he was no philosopher, and he certainly wasn't a friend to conservatives.

    • @voldren
      @voldren 2 дня назад +8

in his latest special he could seem even anti leftist, with critique against "no child left behind" and all that stuff, probably popular slogans in america during that time, also some even earlier stuff was against "soft people", "soft language", "save the planet" etc, which you can associate with leftist ideologies
so yeah, in general he was just anti-stupid, and his critique was focused on anything he deemed irrational, no matter if it was from left or right

Liberalism (which the US democratic party espouses) is an idea adopted by all sane parties, its what democracy and individual rights are about, it's about freedom of choice. It's not left nor right.
In fact Liberalism is the very foundation for modern society, It is what all successful societies not ruled by a dictator where people have rights is based on. It is not "left" anywhere on earth but in the US and that is just because the right is literally quoting Göbbels and Göring these days, they are quite literally regurgitating Nazi ideals.

George was LEFT. He despised almost everything conservatives stood for, and when he did mock liberals, it was usually because of perceived hypocrisy or selfishness.
"Carlin’s personal politics were readily identifiable. Kelly Carlin said her father was “99 percent progressive” and that he raised her in a manner that today might be contemptuously dismissed as woke.
“He taught me from Day 1 that the Black and brown people have always been oppressed, horribly and systematically, by the owners of wealth,” she said. “He had a pure disdain and loathing for white men in America.”
That leftist bent was unmistakable in Carlin’s standup, too: He railed against police violence, championed prison reform and environmentalism and condemned organized religion." - NYT, May 2022.
If I remember correctly, his daughter said if her father was alive, he probably would've supported Bernie Sanders.
He was anti-capitalism, anti-war, critical of police, generally pro-environment, hated the ultra-wealthy, and hated both political parties.
Listening to George Carlin should make you realize Democrats and Republicans are both on the conservative side of the political spectrum, the Republicans just extremely (and frighteningly) so.

Like most on the Left, he had contempt for liberals or the "center-Left". Not to mention his famous "whatever" response to "saving the planet" (have you seen that one yet?). How about the state starts providing services, free health care and financial support for those who can't afford a child or free psychology help for räpe victims and children living in abusive environments? Pleasantly uncomfortable. Yes. That is perfectly descriptive of Carlins style. You do not laugh as much because it is funny as it’s a nervous tick because it is the pure uncomfortable truth! Carlin never told that many jokes, but he was BIG on poking at the truth right where it hurts the most. And THAT is why people loved him, and still do! ❤

Yes, George Carlin has a very - real - opinion about the whole discussion, and his arguments about the non-sanctity of life are strong. As soon, as you have the atheist view on the world, things are much easier. You can look at the facts, the biology, the history, the social realities, and what religions (and their leaders) want the people to believe (and why!) and after rationally thinking about it, you can build your own opinion. He is a good teacher of critical thinking. And letting religion aside helps a lot.

In fact, the hypocrisy of Republicans (acting like they are the party of the people) using that as an attack, would almost certainly draw his ire. And I can't imagine the field day he'd have with magas.

Religion being THE leading cause of death is a fact. We can date that back to ancient religions where entire cultures were wiped out, hell we can even date that back to wiping out the other human species (which apparently most Americans don't learn about but Homo Sapiens Neandetalensis and Homo Sapiens Denisovanis were actual human species, we are of the same species, but a different subspecies) for no other reason than differences in beliefs.
I'm Swedish, the northern Crusades was a genocide that didn't really work, as soon as people had the freedom to just state that they didn't believe we (Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark) went 90+% atheist.
I'd say that the counting of Christians as entire nations is false because it is. I'd say Russia is 95% atheist but enforced 100% Christian.

And then the rest of the world has to suffer because of these two asshole nations fighting over their stupid delusional gods. Religion has long been a cancer on this world and we need to speak out against at every opportunity.

    • @CiscoWes

Nope, not at all. Atheism has caused more bloodshed and death than any other religion combined. Stallin, Mao, Lenin, Brezhnev, Andropov, Chernenko, Ceausecu, Hoxha, Fidel Castro, Pol Pot etc…. There were 1,763 wars between 8000BC to 2000 AD. 93 was caused by the government, 3.8% caused by Islam, and 3.2% caused by Non-Islam. The Crusades were simply a retaliation from hundreds of years of Islamic terrorism. Russia breaks down as 63% identifying as Orthodox Christian, 7% as Muslim, and 26% as having no religious designation. Not sure where you’re getting your facts.

George Carlin was more a libertarian - but the classical ones not these weirdo tea party people. He wanted human rights, government accountability, and corporate accountability. Basically he was for the little guy and definitely against the man which fits the 60's motif where he really grew up in. I've read all of his books, his autobiography and have seen all of his specials.
He's anti-authority. Despised Democrats and Republicans alike for different reasons. He liked individual people - talking with them one on one. There's countless stories of people having had run into him at a deli or a park in New York and he'd just invite them to sit down and talk. He was like that. He never minded engaging 1-1 because he could see so much more than just a red hat or a blue hat.

He has multiple sets that's just absolutely torching Conservatives, Republicans, the Church, and religion in general. That's not to be confused with being a Democrat, though our two party system would leave him virtually no other option. He was very much anti-establishment and against the capitalist status quo, and that would include Democrats that supported them (which would be a lot of them).

Abigail will likely not thank me for summarizing her work (because I will likely get something wrong, not because she minds summaries. From everything I’ve seen, she is both a better person than me AND a delightful person to be around. And also the one true monarch of England.). But, if I followed her logic properly, if a person was about to die for lack of some organ or rare blood type that exists inside of my body, the government cannot compel me to donate it. Abortion is the only scenario where the state’s interest in saving a life can supersede a pregnant person’s absolute right to determine what is done to/with their body.
I personally would love to see people suing each other based on this new legal precedent. A child has third degree burns over 20% of their body? Send a deputy over to Ted Cruz’ house, and see if he’s a match to donate skin for a graft.

I think especially in a two party system like the US has, people to often equate right and left with Dem and Rep. They are not the same thing at all. One party is more left and one is more right, but you can be right wing and hate the Republicans, you can be left wing and hate the Democrats. It also isn't a static position. You don't have to stake a claim and say "this is where I stand" you can shift, both between issues, and on the same issue. Remember the Churchill quote "Those who never change their minds, never change anything"

I prefer strong competition, not stonewalling and bickering. As for abortion, I agree with Bill....the womans choice and yes, it is snuffing a potential life, but that's between the person deciding the abortion or not.,.....and whatever is our creator. It's never been a tough subject. We either have bodily autonomy or we don't. Even if you call a fetus a human, who cares? Let's say it is for arguments sake. One individuals autonomy does not trump the autonomy of another. The woman has a say over who can use her body. Be it her blood, organs, womb, or anything else. You can refuse to donate your kidney or blood to your living child and nobofy bats an eye. Why? It's your right to do. Your body. Nobody can make you donate anything. Even once you're dead, you have that right over your body. They can not use your organs if you don't give consent. That last point is the biggest. Even the dead have the right to bodily autonomy, but a pregnant woman doesn't? Pregnant women have fewer rights than a corpse? That isn't right.
When should abortions no longer be done? When it would be viable outside the womb. Until then, it is literally leeching off your body to survive. That is using your body. You can chose to not allow that even if the other person would die without your kidney, blood, or, in this case, the whole body. A baby born premature can survive at a minimum of around 6 or 7 months. That's the upper limit of abortions. 5 months. Those almost never happen unless it is an emergency, though. By that point, you've already committed to having a kid and already made up your mind that you consent to letting this "person" use your body to live. Again, it was your choice using your bodily autonomy. You allowed them to use your body, but you don't have to do that with anything else. Pregnancy should be no different.
Either abortion is legal or women have fewer rights than the dead do.

The first Political Party were the Republican's named after the type of Government/Country they created, that being a Constitutional Republic.
And just like American derived from America, we get Republican from Republic...
They were looking to build and Preserve this Country for the Generations of Americans to come!
    ---The Democrats---
The Democratic Party was created by ex-confederate ex-slave owners who decided they were going to take back the country from within the system, rather than just give up... They also Created and weaponized the KKK to terrorise the black communities into voting Democrat, using all manor of terror: cross burning, people being dragged out of their houses in the middle of the night an beaten, dragging people behind horses and or wagons by rope, lynching, etc..
I personally suggest to all that they do the research themselves and always check the sources facts for validity. Wikki-anything can't be trusted for College papers nor professional sciences therefore not valid! 😊❤
