    The main thing I miss from my 1500 are the Ram Boxes...for ALL the reasons you mentioned. And compared to the 1500, it drives like a truck, bouncy log wagon ride but nothing like trucks from even 15 years ago, but it does drive better with a load...Why? because it was made to haul a load. Without a load, none of the ride tech is stressed so it is tight and you get that bouncy ride. As soon as there is some weight on the springs and shocks they are in their element. Right on the looks and interior. Fuel mileage is about what you say. My towing mileage is equal to my 1500's both of them, one with 3.92 and one with 3.21. Living in MT, for the first time this last week we hit the mid 70's and the seat ventilation came on automatically like the heat does...at 38 degrees. It was warm but not hot, but I could actually feel it and thought, oh this will be nice when it hits mid to upper 80's. Boy I miss those Ram boxes. I'm going to have to go with the "swing cases" to compensate.

    Good video. Makes me glad I opted for 3.73's. Tough decision. The truck I was looking at with 4.10's had a couple options that I wanted, but I went for the 3.73's for MPG's. I figure it will pay off on longer tows, and daily driving.

      How is it towing I'm also looking into this compare to the 4.10

    • @liveyourfree
      @liveyourfree  2 года назад +1

      Absolutely. 4.10s will definitely give it more get up and go when towing but the 3.73s are still great towing gear ratio. The fuel prices now only support the decision to get the 3.73 gears. It tows everything I put behind it just fine. I have towed as much as 11,000 lbs. That is well within the range of what the truck can do.

    I have a 2020 Limited blackout. We are looking into a Grand Design 2500RL. It has 3.21 gears and the payload is very low. I think we can swing it like you did with your old setup.

    • @liveyourfree
      @liveyourfree  Год назад

      Nice. I recommend hanging with it until you can no longer stay within your limits or if you don't personally feel safe towing with it. Only you will know if you are comfortable or not. I'd love to know what you decide! Best wishes on the process!

      @@liveyourfree I usually keep my truck in aero mode. It's my understanding that the movement to aero mode on the highway is disabled when you use tow haul. Should I setup my truck weight distribution hitch on the aero mode height or use normal? I know you have to put it in jack mode to setup. I like the height of aero mode but I am not sure that is good for towing. I may have to set it to normal.

    I’m interested in a new 2500 HEMI Laramie Mega cab but was curious what the payload might be. I know it won’t be exactly the same as your truck since it’s a Limited, but do you mind sharing the approx. payload from your driver side door sticker for comparison?

    You nailed it with your 5 items. Ram Boxes are extremely useful. Only problem I have had is alignment. I tow a 9k TT and air suspension has been great. Yes, interior is best in class hands down. The looks of the Ram are IMHO top notch. And the MegaCab is so roomy, it really makes for an enjoyable trip when taking company on long rides to the campground. And while I have the 4.10 rear end, mpg is about what I would expect. But I have never lacked for power. So glad I did not go with the diesel.

      Have you towed your travel trailer in the mountains? Unfortunately I live in california and everywhere we go there is mountains we have to climb. I am hoping to get the hemi and not the diesel.

    • @johnnicpon5783

      @@mad125100 Yes, I have towed in the Smokies out East. And last summer I towed out to Yellowstone and the Tetons. I have never lacked for power towing my 30' TT. And I have towed on some steep grades. If you tow 12k or less, a gasser is a great way to go. Diesel is awesome if you need to tow heavy and often. However, due to modern diesel emissions controls, you need to deal with DEF and regen. issues. So glad I have the big Hemi. One Advantage the diesel has is the engine braking. However the gear limiter on the Hemi works well. Best of luck with whatever you choose!

      Have you had any issues with the cylinder deactivation when towing? I heard that has been an issue. I’m looking at getting the Chevy 2500HD gasser for a 37’ TT with a 10K GVWR.
