Some wargames simulate both military victory and political victory. I saw a riot simulation game where both sides are encouraged to de-escalate as extreme violence dunks their political victory.

@@Kili121416 I downloaded the Ruthless gunfighter rules about month ago, but have yet to play my first game, as I've been busy scratch building the buildings and assembling/painting the figures. I've come up with a really cool way to keep track of each character's stats. I've cut a pine 3/4" pine board into 4" x 8" pieces, then cut the piece into the shape of an old west coffin lid. At the top there's a place for the character's name and toughness rating, below that a place for traits, below that holes are drilled for 22 caliber and 32 caliber shell casings to keep track of ammo supply and below that four 3/4" holes for the LEG, ARM, CHEST and CRITICAL wounds (I'll use small diameter poker chips to keep track of the wounds). Hopefully I'll be ready to play our first game in another week or two. Here's a link to pictures of my 'Coffin Lid' Stats Tracker panel for use while playing RUTHLESS gunslinger rules: i.postimg.cc/QdSNmgyr/IMG-0488.jpg and: i.postimg.cc/HkkTPc5D/IMG-0500.jpg
This was very well done, really appreciate both the narrative and the relevance of the legal standing. As complex as the history of the west is, I thought this was a nice dive into it without oversimplification or armchair generalship. Well done! Btw I grew up about an hour north of most of these areas! Plus you had what looks like a ton of fun!!
I was just in Tombstone. Total tourist trap, but also totally worth checking out if you're into history (and if you're reading this, well...). Walking down that broad main street is pretty cool.
Really love this set up Acts leading into each other, characters survive to see another act, and victory points are kept secret letting players get more into a roleplay mindset (or cause just cause chaos, either or)
Camerawork is top notch as always!!! And wow! As a German boy I never heard of the gun fight at Tombstone. I was always a fan of westerns so I have no idea how I missed this interesting story! But well thanks for teaching it to me :D
As a person who created a small free to play rulebook, ngl, I can't wait for the video on "how to make one" that you anticipated at 8:39 (to see if I did something wrong).
I'll be checking out those 'Ruthless' rules for sure. I've wanted to be able to do these kinds of "vignette" scale western gunfights for a while now. Even better if Chal gets those detailed rules out!
Just found the channel yesterday, starting with the battle of the Trebia, and I’m loving it, watching as many war games as I can. I’m hoping to eventually see an Australian battle. Maybe Villers Bretonneux, Hamel, Mont St. Quintain, Crete, Tobruk, the Kokoda Campaign, or even Long Tan.
@@LittleWarsTV I’m certain you have many people from around the world asking for their own particular battles. I’ve liked everything you’ve done so far, especially Trebia, Marango and Trafalgar. I’ll be following your channel into the future with great interest regardless of if you get around to those aforementioned battles, I’m certain only a few of them are fair scenarios anyway.
Just today did my first official session of Merciless, an rpg I made based on the Ruthless rules. Went very well! Thanks for introducing this system to me!
Relative of Texas Jack here, was excited to see him actually do stuff besides get his horse shot out from under him, and actually score a few kills instead of getting pulled to safety by Doc. Nice episode, will binge more!
@San Shinobi I was thinking on doing so eventually. Was gonna contact the guys who made Ruthless for permission. Gonna playtest it a bit more though, do some balancing etc.
I really enjoyed this and learned a lot too! I like how much action went on in some small table areas..great job with the narrative and the legality aspect to balance win conditions and the conditions post- scenarios! Excellent! Regards, Dan
I ran a similar game at the 1984 Canberra Convention (CANCON) in Australia, we called it the "Shootout at the OKW Corral", OKW being our club name (Organisation of Knox Wargamers). We used Donald Featherstones skirmish rules from 1975 and TIMPO figures with the TIMPO wild west town. Set up in the middle of the hall we had a queue a mile long to play the game. Umpires decisions were final and sometimes arbitrary but it was heaps of fun. I also ran the same game at an Army Engineer Officers training session as a bit of relief, it was great to see my fellow officers having a bit of fun. Still have the set, must get it out one day.
Both the campaign and the rulesets look very enticing, so few wargames consider who is right, just who's left - and in life it's a bigger factor than we often agree.
Really awesome videos guys. You put a lot of time and effort into those terrain boards, they looked impressive. I really enjoy the great camaraderie and that you guys dress up and get into the theme of your games, its a lot of fun. Thank you again for the awesome videos.
I really loved how much you got into the "spirit" (Including the drinks!) of the story, & thank you for the nice but succinct background to the events. And I guess the people around your Wargaming building know you well enough by now to not be alarmed by a bunch of guys in Western gear waving very realistic Guns around :)
We love telling this story, but one Monday night during regular club gaming two police officers walked into the building looking for anyone who may have seen a stolen car. They stood in the doorway, studying our club room for a minute with very confused looks. We just stared at them until one officer said, slowly, "What exactly is this place?"
Excellent game, enjoyed the whole setup. Will definitely give the rules a go too, nice how your club set up the tie in with the bandanas and masks into the game too. Cudos for being stand up about the CV19 thing too without making it an issue. The lowdown on the historical aspect is always appreciated.
I like how this game plays with the legal status of the different posses, vigilantes and competing legal bodies. It gives players a reason to not see this as a pure military problem. Adding more encounters that were historically peaceful but could have gone hot is fun.
Great campaign game. Shame to to spend so much time building some boards that saw only a few minutes of game play. But definitely worth it for us viewers. I loved the hidden victory conditions.
I love the detailed battles and larger games, but the ones that have a popular culture angle are sometimes more interesting because so much more is known about the environment. The players come alive and thus the game does too.
Okay, just finished our first game of Ruthless...it was awesome! We really enjoyed the game on our first shot out, with very little read through prior to tonight's game, it was easy to pick up and start to develop our strategies. We managed to hit all the aspects of the game and was really surprised how well this game plays out. Really love the little card nuances and interrupts. We had 5 figures each and played well. I rate this with 5 out 5 Thumbs up! Great game which want me to have more...thanks again!
Glad you enjoyed it as much as we did! For a little 2-pager, it's impressive how much tactical depth you find with the way the cards are used. You have a lot of important decisions to use your cards wisely. Several free scenarios coming out this month!
We enjoy trying different styles and this was definitely an RPG-feel given the handful of historical characters. Hoping to do more of these in the future!
Honestly, this Video is going to draw so many people into Historical War gaming, but I still love those Epic 6mm Battles the best.
We hope so! But for those who love the sweeping, epic battles our next episode will please you!

I always like the history lesson before the scenarios. This one was meatier than usual but also another step in the growth of this channel. Good work.
The legality points were interesting. I quite like the idea of modifiying to be a public opinion points and say do an American Revolution campaign.

Are you going to pull them pistols or are you going to whistle Dixie?
Great atmosphere...scenery, sound effects, narration...this one had it all! Terrific job guys!
Thanks, Richard! We really got into the Wild West spirit with this one. It was a blast to play!
I love narrative campaigns so this was awesome to watch! Also the Iron Springs board is just *chef's kiss*
