    Doc have you ever used buttermilk to start a compost pile? Grandmother would mix 1/2 gallon of buttermilk 4 gallon of hot water. She would then poor this over the pile. Buttermilk has all the good and live bacteria cultures in it.

    Doc, i made the compost pile and it fired up, then cooled down after a few days. Once cooled down, how long can you use it to top dress your raised beds...or...do you need to re-fire it so often??

    Good morning doc, I hope Anderson has planned for increased production of dirt buster due to the fact they ran out of it a few times last year. I gave permission to use the pictures I sent them of my yard last year during a severe drought here in Oklahoma. Only watering twice a week. The house and property looks great doc.

    But great job on doing your homework. From lawnmaster 🏆🏆🏆

      It is better value to make your enriched compost separately first.
      Then you have the application medium for your lawns, flower beds etc. It is poor value to apply the product directly.
      Your compost product will have 10-100 fold or more bioactivity than what you started with if you process it that way

Also, if you are prepping new raised beds and mix it in with existing potting or raised mix with compost mixed in, how does the dirt booster help if you don’t have the temps needed to make the fungi and microbes alive?

    Very interesting video Doc. I got an idea what about running a extension cord under the pile and plugging it into one if those heating mats that are used to heat aquariums for reptiles ect. That would provide the extra constant heat to get pile going and might be useful in colder climates ect... Just an idea. Wondering about your thoughts on that ?

    Is this normal?

    • @HowTowithDoc

    Black Kow manure is already composted, what's the point of starting the compost process again?
    Seems like this would be better used on a pile of carbon such as wood chips, leaves or bales of straw.

    • @HowTowithDoc

      Because there little to no nutrients in it... no biochar... no good fungi and limited microbes. The black kow is simply the carrier.

    I think it's a complete waste of time to try hot composting outdoors when day temperatures are below 84f, as long as you get a warm day then the freezing night will not lower the temperature. The main issue people ignore is oxygen. Flipping only adds additional oxygen for about 20 minutes max. Also when you're switching from anaerobic to aerobic the Sulfur converts from dioxide to trioxide to form sulfuric acid which also heats up(it's drain cleaner so to get heat you add oxygen). My 5ft leaf pile is 150f though I'm in zone 9, I hit 164f(the max) a few weeks ago but it didn't last so I added a high-N fertilizer.

    • @HowTowithDoc
      @HowTowithDoc  Год назад

      Not true... we have been doing these piles for 4 years. It is NOT a normal compost pile. It only remains for 72 hours before being used and the testing from Clemson Unv showed the true power. If you want to talk NORMAL compost piles.. then you are correct.
