I forgot to tell you about an important topic about Yoko Kanno 😅 When the current Emperor ascended to the throne in 2019, she was asked by the Imperial Household Agency to compose a congratulatory song, and when she performed it in front of the Emperor and Empress, the Empress was so moved that she shed tears when she heard it 😌 She is also from Miyagi Prefecture, which was the most affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, and she composed the charity song "Flowers Bloom" to support the reconstruction efforts. A special version was released in which famous Japanese talents, actors, and musicians sang the song, and it is still sung by choirs all over Japan.😢
Yoko Kanno originally had a gift for composition and music, she originally transcribed all sorts of music for student bands. That gave her an amazing ability to both compose and identify elements across all sorts of genres. She was approached to compose music for Nobunaga's Ambition (a RPG game). When the game turned out to be a massive hit her name became one of the A-list composers in Japanese Video Game and Anime composition. She formed The Seatbelts as a Big Band mix of top studio musicians and composed the Cowboy Bebop score. She blended Bop, Big Band, Latin, Classical, Blues, and Jazz. Many hold her work Jazz and Bebop composition skills to be approaching that of Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis. But as her works span so many musical genres her name usually sits as an unconstrained outlier (like a Vangelis).
Always brought to mind 60's police serials, Johnny Quest vibes. Had a lot of fun listening to this at the start of every episode watching the anime series- which in themselves had a lot of great mood music. Can relate somewhat to it being noted it felt too long, but loved the complex bass and percussion, and the brass kept the energy throughout. It was the audio equivalent of a five course meal, and sometimes we need that in a time where music comes to us like fast food with bold flavours, but still leaving one feel a bit empty afterwards.
Even those who haven't watched a single episode of the anime are excited by this song. Tank! It's in my TOP 5 of the best anime opening soundtracks.

WOW, I did not know that. I've been a Yoko Kanno fan since Macross Plus, and it's amazing to see the level she's at now.

I was also moved when I heard "Voices" from the Macross Plus OST.🤯
