I’m fifty and since my first real bike as a teenager have had 43 bikes that I can count. My Spur is far and away the best mountain bike I’ve ever had and it isn’t even close. That includes the other Transitions I’ve had (Scout, Patrol, Vanquish etc). Great choice in frameset. I know you love your previous ones, it’s such a great bike.
If you have a regular non-dropper seatpost of the same size you can put it in with the cable going up inside it, then you can clamp it in the stand that way. or if it’s 31.9 maybe inch and a quarter pipe.
Do you prefer the Fox shock over the Ohlins ttx1? I currently have a Spur with a SidLuxe, but I need something with better support. My Spur is a bit more aggressive build with a 120mm Pike Ultimate, Shimano XT 4 piston 200/180 brakes, MagicMary/HansDampf tyres, etc. A great bike! The shortest travel trail bike I have ever owned, but probably the most fun one. The light weight and agile ride reminds me of my 4X race bikes from 20 years ago :)
Looks great Clint! Which dropper lever? I've got a low end KS on my Ripmo AF and boy did I hate the KS lever. The post is pretty sticky after being up for 20-30 minutes. Switching to a Wolftooth Light Action was night and day better. I'm debating between 2cm more drop with Oneup, or no cartidge to wear out and still 1cm more than I have now with Wolftooth. I cringed when I saw the clamp on the top tube, and then thought, I bet he addresses it.
Hey Clint… nice build! If I was going to name this bike, I would call it Barney… One fine point, I made a small flexible plastic flap to cover the gap between the seat tube and swing arm. This prevents rocks from lodging here, where they could crack or damage the carbon. I made this out of an old front fender. The flap is attached above with 3M double sided mounting tape and a single zip tie. The bottom floats with the swing arm. Transition should do this. My wife’s Ripley has a flap in this location.
Hey Clint I’d suggest using a fidlock bottle holder, just look it up it’s awesome. I don’t think I’d go back to water bottle cages especially on smaller triangle frames. Or if you never scratch your frame with your water bottle cage disregard this post. Great looking build!
I'm still more interested in HOW you made your component selections and WHAT were the decision criteria that motivated you to select certain components over others? For example… I know you have been a big fan of Stan's rims for a while, so why Industry Nine? What ride characteristics/advantages did you gain? Why XO over XX1? etc. Thx!
Looking great!! Curious did Transition supply any plugs for the cable ports you did not use due to AXS? AXS dropper collar is also silver and would match the Stem and hubs. twist twist..lol
To me most stock bikes come with stems way too low and not enough steerer length. End up buying a new fork and setting stack height height with more spacers below the stem.
Clint, you chose a gorgeous frame color! I am also in the dream bike build process and am considering the same wheelset. Can you give me any feedback or comparison to other wheels you have ridden or owned? My only carbon wheelset frame of reference are the Reserve XC with DT 350 hubs and a 54 tooth ratchet. Thanks and as always I enjoy your channel and appreciate the time and care you put into it. Cheers!
I just ordered a new XC bike and I asked the bike shop to put on Vittoria Barzo Mezcal combo instead of the stock Recon Race tires. Clearly I made a mistake if Clint put the Recon Races on his dream build 🥴!
My fox transfer I got never had a lever either. I ended up using a one up v2 lever I had bought around covid time and never got the post. Have you used jagwire pro dropper cables before?
If I do race XC again I will definitely use this bike. I’m enjoying my retirement this year, lol. I think I’m gonna focus more on endurance racing next year.
Does running 170's on the spur really make much of a difference for pedal strikes vs 175's? I'm doing a similar build but at 6'4 I'm still deciding what crank length to run. Also running 175s on my gravel / road bikes
For me it does. My first spur had 175s. My second one had 170s. I had much less pedal strikes with the 170s, which is why I went with 170s on this one.
I know you addressed this....and I'm guilty of doing it in a pinch too but why not just throw the seatpost in the frame temporarily? Seems like an unnecessary risk to me.
Because you have to remove the bottom bracket to install the cable and I did not want to take everything apart again. I would have to push the cable down inside the frame to install the seat and didn’t want to risk it not being able to pull it back out again without it attached to the seat post

In my opinion, I think bike companies need to stop making purple bikes. Otherwise, I'm going to run out of money. What a beaut.
I have this same issue.
And I thought I liked the mint color…
It's either black or purple, or black with purple pearl for me.
Had us in the first half
Wow. Agree. I’d never picked that frame based on Transition’s site pics, but on your vid it’s really great.

I now prefer the Ohlins although the fox is an amazing fork. To me the Ohlins has the more hover bike feel.
@@ClintGibbs How about the rear shock? A while ago you had the Ohlins ttx1 in the back of a Spur.

The South Paw lever
Purple People Eater build
I truly regret buying my spur
?
@@clc1117 it’s just for me compulsive buy. I hate being under biked. I capable but not that capable.
Yup, those are the X0 cranks which is MTB wide spacing aka 55mm chainline so you definitely need 3mm NDS/7.5mm DS BB spacers.

Dang, really love that color! Sweet build Clint!
I would absolutely, if I was building that frame
Fox Orange Step Cast
Purple and orange totally sick af home run combo colors
Amazing build! Congrats. The colors are amazing!
Wow! Amazing looking bike. I'm still black on black for my stuff, but the silver accents really pop. Great choice!
Do they have a Plum Smuggler?😅❤
Which frame tape do you use from Amazon?
Showing in a RUclips short released by the end of the week.

Just brought home a purple smuggler yesterday. Debated Spur vs smuggler even during purchase. I love both purples. They are slightly different.

I have kept all of my rigid setposts to use as a dummy post so I can mount the bike in the stand.
What Raceface handle bars are those?
Next R 35

Stem is awesome! I'm considering the Pivot Mach 4SL, but that bike looks great

you shouldn't clamp the bike on the top tube !.......there ... I said it 😁
The purple frame, the black components, and the chrome accents look so perfectly matched!
surprised how good that build looks, nice!
That’s a beautiful bike! Great choice with the purple!
Wow looking great. I hooe this ones a keeper for life for you. Looking forward to the finish... 😎
Beautiful bike... stunning color!
Please share the link on how to bleed and set up Shimano brakes.

You could put a spare seat post in there and clamp it .
till you get the dropper sorted out

I won’t be able to ride the bike until next week due to a trip that starts tomorrow. I’ll talk about the wheels on my first ride video.

I tested the Mezcals a few years ago and really liked them.

Have not used those cables on a dropper yet
Are those esi grips? I’m trying out ergon gxr rubber type xc grips very comfortable.
Yes
Do you plan to tell us what the total cost is for the build? Inquiring minds want to know. 😉
I haven’t had the courage to add it up yet.
Oh and it’s nice ❤
Maybe consider some sram boots for those nice cranks just in case...
Yeah good point. I’ve got quite a few. pair here at the house.
💥💥💥💥💥🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Can you run that bike as a mullet?
I’m sure you could but the handling of this bike is literally the best that I’ve ever experienced so I don’t want to change anything.
Enjoyed it Clint. Are you gonna race XC with that?
If I do race XC again I will definitely use this bike. I’m enjoying my retirement this year, lol. I think I’m gonna focus more on endurance racing next year.
Clint, any experience of opinions on Berd spokes?
I’ve actually never used them at this point

@@Bike-zm4uy no. I was very fast in time trials on the spur with 170s.
Is this a warranty frame ?
No
It's very purpley 😋
I’m totally using that movie clip in my next video of the bike

@@ClintGibbs wait what? The cable doesn't slide once the bb is installed? That's horrific design.
You can also just install the cable with it so when you pull the dropper out the cable and housing will come up with it
The metal stop on this design goes into the lever not the seat post. I need the lever to fully install it.
The design is fine. The cable slides easy when pulling; I just didn’t know about pushing it.
