  • Here is another experiment with molds I picked up at the Bin Store. I do not know what the molds were intended for, but I thought I might try molding plaster, cement or grout. This video is instructional so hang in there with me as I find out what will work. If you enjoyed or learned from this video please hit the "Like" button and subscribe to my channel. I absolutely love your teaching! And am grateful for your sharing your knowledge. Off to my studio to try to make a mold for a series of geometric lighting elements I'd like to make for my kitchen.

I wonder if you could use them for building hollow slab gnomes. Press one slab on one side than the other slip and score togather. Kinda like a slip mold but with slabs

Actually that was my initial plan. I tried using clay slabs but it was difficult to get a good imprint. I think it is possible....I just lost interest!

This was a fun and informative video Captain thank you. I wonder if you used an oil based modeling clay in the same areas and way you used the vasoline if you might have better leak protection? It should have the same water stopping effects but also be able to hold up against the pressures better by being thicker. I've seen it used to seal plaster molds for making slip casting molds, so maybe?

I'm sure the modeling clay would work better than the vasoline, but I think using the black paper clamps is going to solve the problem.

Will a thin plastic bag work as a liner?

I'm sure that would degrade the details. Thanks for the comment.
