Seeing Volk getting cracked like that made my heart sink to my ass. The fight ending sequence was terrifyingly beautiful, and deceptive on ilias part making volk move his head right into that right hand of his. Live by the sword die by the sword. Volk will rise again and it will beautiful.

When Topuria suffered that kick to the head, I was impressed by how calm he was, he knew exactly what to do, as if he had that scenario covered in his training camp. I saw an interview he did months after that fight and they asked him exactly about that kick to the head. His response confirmed to me that all of that is covered in his training camp. He also stated that such situations are a very crucial part of any fighter training camp because hitting and being hit is part of the sport. He goes on to say that it will be a waste of time if all you do is train your strikes, such as boxing, wrestling, submissions, and jiu jitsu, but skip the part about what to do if any of them hit you badly. . he is in another world

And before that, Holloway had to beat down Aldo twice. Father time gets us all, and all greats fall eventually. The only reason it didn't happen to Khabib is because he retired after only 3 title defenses.

The more i watch this sport the more i come to appreciate these guys in their eras and reigns. Mma is chaotic but blissful at the same time. For one must fall for another to rise. That is the law of nature. I'm sad for this loss for volk he was fighting very well, it looked like he was beginning to get going. Was fast and sharp, the constant kicks to the arms of Topuria i could see what he was going for. Until he got rushed by a punch he didn't see coming. It's just one of those things man. I personally believe he can come back and win that fight. And a rematch is definitely valid. But it think a good long rest isn't a bad idea before going again. 🙏

Izzy Im spanish and you are my favourite fighter of all time, and volk is one of the goats of the sport. He is so humble too and such a good person. I have to say Ilia is the king of the new generation, he is incredible all round and has the most insane KO power I’ve seen in FW. It was so hard for me that my homeboy had to fight volk for his dream and our dream, but it is what it is. Cruel sport after all. Brother it's boxing 101, never circle to the opponents dominant hand. Volk was going to the left all night. Tempura was just timing for that right. no hate or anything but you guys coaches seem to have no answer vs boxers. Same way strickland backed izzy to the cage. That's equivalent to being on the ropes in boxing and that one round izzy won vs sean was when izzy was in the middle of the cage. pre fight, i thought volk was going to walk through spain and conquer but, 1 min into the first round it was clear what was going to happen unless volk started clinching or straight up wrestling.
Wrestling is the best weapon of topuria, is not boxing. All people talk about ilia's boxing skills because the dude is too good, but is not even his great weapon. Volk can try but is not gonna be easy task in front of tha young fella.
