  • NaLyssa Smith recorded her second 20-point performance of the preseason (21 points, 6 rebounds, 56.3 field goal percentage), while Caitlin Clark finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and both Aliyah Boston (11 points) and Katie Lou Samuelson (11 points) scored in double digits as the Indiana Fever defeated the Atlanta Dream 83-80 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday night.

    The most fans the Fever had in attendance for a regular season game last year was 7,356 fans. They averaged 4,066 per home game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Believe it or not, Clark and the Fever almost doubled the attendance high from the regular season last year... in a preseason game. They had 13,028 people show up on Thursday night to catch Clark take on the Atlanta Dream... I Saw this from a news feed

      Jordan used to do that for the Bulls. Reese is doing that for Chicago now. Clark didn't do anything. The commentators are speaking here name. It's for promotional purposes. Caitlin Clark is not Jordan or Kobe Bryant. She's not Lisa Leslie or Sheryl Swoops. She is doing her job as a guard on a Pro team that's all.

    Great game Caitlin proved she can impact the game when her shots are not falling. She got open shots they just didn't fall. You could see how Caitlin being on the floor just makes the offense run so smoothly. She gets her teammates so many open shots. She had six assist but easily could have had 10+ but there was a lot of missed open layups and shoots. There was still some turnovers from miscommunication but that will get better with chemistry. I was surprised on how many double and at times triple teams Atlanta sent at Caitlin but that just shows how good of a offensive threat she is. Add on to it her 8 boards and a couple of defensive posesion and she had an all around great game. Nalyssa was a beast to on both ends of the floor and I was glad to see aliyah getting her confidence back. Celeste Taylor also showed why she can be a great asset cause of her ability to shot the three and her hustle and defense.

    What an awesome game. I can finally see what our starting 5 will be along with our 2nd unit rotation.
    Atlanta played with a 3 guard that was countered with our standard line up. So glad we signed Katie Lou as she provides with the perfect wing defender and shooter. Temi will provide minutes spelling AB and Nalyssa. Berger and Celeste chipping in when heeded. It will be a crying shame on who gets cut but I hope we can hold on to them in case of injury. Hopefully the WNBA league will expand to a 15 man roster to help with injuries.
    The whole team gelled together really well. They are all amazing.

      Not the Indian Fever starting five. Wheeler and Kelsey out. Kelsey average 17 points last season, so that is a big chunk of offense Indiana fans hasnt seen play with clark yet.

    • @jihyotwice3159
      @jihyotwice3159 27 дней назад +2

      @@Michael-of6zf Sometimes these comments that are replied back are downright stupid that try to act smart. Dude, nobody said that the starting 5 this game here was gonna be the starting 5 for the season. This starting 5 is different from last game. We (Fever) are still trying alot of different things with different lineups and rotations. Especially with players getting rest and being injured.
      Last game Katie Lou did not play and this game she played predominantly. Last game Erica Wheeler played while this game she was ill. Last game, I said CC was gassed but this game she played the most minutes. Even if she played with the second rotation, Berger was praised by Christie Sides for settling down the offense.
      This game Christie Sides also called out the players for allowing Atlanta for scoring 45 points but the players responded by only allowing 35 for rest of the 3 quarters. Christie also called out the forwards for not running with CC to get the quick layups and points in the paint but that changed with Nalyssa getting fast break points and AB being more dominant to get inside.
      Ergo, there are still a lot of things that needs to be fixed. Nothing is set yet. However, we can see trends. Coach Christie also said that the 10th, 11th, and 12th players are just as important as the starting 5 in case of injuries their number will be called upon.
      As I said, it will be difficult for the Fever to make the cuts as they all are gelling so well. I can also see why the Fever drafted 3 guards as there may be significant injury time that needs to be covered along the season and during the playoffs.
      I am just very excited for the Fever team and how they develop. Hopefully, the WNBA will see this trend to expand team rosters up to 15 and increase the team cap space. If you look at the Aces, Nika Muhl won't make the team only due to cap space reasons.

      Loved The Game tonight, everyone looked abit Improved. 🔥Nalyssa was on Fire tonight! Defense wasnt too bad, I thought Grace did a great Job on Defense tonight. Aliyah and Caitlin and others had a decent night as well. I thought Aliyah really stepped Up more tonight than previous game. The Refs calls were abit off, I thought there were some calls that should’ve gone our way, including a few questionable calls against Us. One Observation and Not a criticism because I love my Fever, but Honestly I thought there was Far too much ‘Rush-Shooting in the game before everyone was even set up in position tonight. Grace and Lexi especially did this. I do realize it’s only preseason and everybody wants to score to get the crowd into it, but we have to let everyone get Set before Taking those quick Transition Shots, Because it will also be an advantage for any of our own rebounds we might get on our own shots as well, having everyone set up, is an Area to work on for Us, Because once the season starts, the other teams will be ready and so must We. I Love My Fever! Go Fever

      Fear of getting a technical. Wnba refs are tyrants and you can only question their judgement through challenging plays. Clark elbowed a defender in the away Dallas game too, knocked the girl down, and the crowd boo'd her.
      Then, Smith knocked Parker down doing her crossover move, with her body, refs were silent. Refs were calling defensive fouls all night on the Dream, often silent for the Fever.
      Anyway, Clarks been hacking her whole career with the elbow checking. She's allowed to do it apparently.
