    Having been going thru some of your older lessons recently, I was struck by how much they've changed over time. They're all great lessons, but your personality, sense of humor, joy in playing and happiness really shine through now!
    As we Americans approach Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for having Justin as my guitar teacher. Thank you so much!!

    This is great Justin, the master teacher. One respectful suggestion for anyone learning this, in the chorus if you substitute the regular D7 for a Bar chord at the 10th and the G7 for a bar at the 3rd, they give you that great 'vampy' sound, especially if you keep lifting off and on, that Justin was talking about. It's better than the substitution in the video in my humble opinion. You don't have to awkwardly mute any strings and you get a fuller sound. Another happy bonus with barring at the 10th and 3rd is it's the same chord shape so you can switch easily (which makes me think this is what is in the recording). And to get to the 10th from the verse you can do a simple three note run down low E string (fifth, seventh and ninth fret) which takes you down the dusty end nicely.

    Thanks Justin, you have a natural quality to teach and your lessons are enjoyable,
    picked my first guitar up last year at the age of 73 last ,struggling but hanging in with your help
    the hardest thing for me is not the chords and chord changes but picking up up the rhythm and getting
    the feel and accents of the song .sounds robotic if you know what I mean, Thanks mate !

    I like the way you give the lesson. Just the right amount of explaining for someone who can already play some guitar. I've been playing the song for years, but I sing it in Am and haven't been able to do the full runs. (I'd need a baritone guitar with a low B string.) So guitar-wise, it seems that it's just gotta be in Dm to be fully correct, so I guess that with my lower voice I'm going to be stuck with not quite right guitarwork. Cheers.

    Excellent lesson and superb playing. I always loved this song and thought it was very clever but the lesson shows just how clever the kinks were. This was a time when great songs were around but most followed a fairly basic chord and blues background. Great innovation from the Kinks. Now just gotta try and play it something like this !

    Yes!! I've been trying to transcribe this, and I got most of the chorus right! ....Ish :P Very helpful lesson! I always love how detailed Justin's tutorials are. Btw, if you want to play the riff a single note at a time, like (I think?) they do at some points in the recording, play each of these notes twice: open D, 5th string 3rd fret, 5th st 2nd fret, 5th st 1st fret, open A, 6th st 3rd fret, 6th st 1 fret, open E. Also, that little thing at the very end is, I'm fairly sure, an open D and the A (2nd fret) on the 3rd string- I guess he was probably holding the whole Dmin chord, but he just plays those first two notes a few times.

  • @raithrover1976
    @raithrover1976 10 лет назад

    I'm finding it much easier using the thumb to play the bass note run on the Dm chord as well. Just can't get my fingers to move fast enough using Justin's technique.
