My son Brendan did 2weeks work experience at Buckingham Palace kichens while he was doing his fine dining course at catering college. He absolutely loved it living above the stables inside the grounds as a 17 year old . He was given a blue apron with BP K 2011 as a momento. Still in use today. 😊

There’s a wonderful account of the banquet after Queen Victoria’s coronation. She had a hearty appetite and ate very fast, which left the others extremely hungry because they had to stop eating when she did. It seems her fondness for food caught up with her in later age judging from the size of her undies.

Oh Shauna you had me giggling about the poor footman & the female brigadier’s medals etc. As a 16 yr old I had a full time casual job 6 days x7 = 42 hours (casual), saving the casual loading I took some leave & went to work @ the RAAF Base, Edinburgh; SA. I worked in the officers mess (front of house), there was as a huge dinner with the then State Premier; David Tonkin, some of the Original “Dam Busters” from RAF & row upon row of extremely well “turned out” officers in dress uniform. Halfway through dinner service collecting mains plates, I had what could be described as a mortifying 10 seconds (felt like an hour in slow-mo). I collected several plates & cutlery & was reversing away from an officer when an errant knife covered in gravy slid off the plate straight down the back of a beautifully starched dress jacket. I apologised but felt awful, whereupon the officer laughed & said “the night’s early, don’t worry”. As I was a civvy by the time the meal finished along with a few toasts it was 2.30 am. The airforce catering staff said “you may as well go home there’s more toasts to go”. Twas with tired feet & a long evening I retreated home. I found out the next day that some of those officers were still “toasting” till 5.00 am & the poor enlisted catering staff had been up 19 hours. Think that’s why I joined the army & never went near the catering corps LOL. Keep calm & carry on as they say, toodle-pip. Great vlog Ty😘💐

Speaking of slow eaters, my mother drove us all crazy. We always, for family dinner, set the food out on the kitchen table and served ourselves buffet -style and then brought our plates to the formal dining room. My mother was never in a hurry about anything, and we **eight** children and our father would be waiting for my mother to serve herself and be seated. Mind you, no one was to start eating until everyone had their food and everyone was seated at the table. This led to many a luke-warm dinner. As with everything else, my mother was a slow eater. No one was to leave the table until everyone had finished eating. We all kept a small bit of food on the plate because one never finished eating and made the woman who was taking **forever** uncomfortable. As soon as she put that last bite in her mouth, that bit of food each of us had reserved on our plates was in our mouths and we anxiously awaited the moment if release! One *might* be excused early if one had a large amount of homework or a test the following day, otherwise, suck it up buttercup!
Sometimes, family remembrances are rather fun, aren't they? Even Royal family remembrances.
I have a feeling the pastry chef likely had a bit of a history with the bottle and had been spoken to at other times as well. If so, I do hope she got help. That life can be absolute Hell for everyone concerned.

    • @jeanne2583-w1n
      @jeanne2583-w1n 2 месяца назад +3

Oh, and the eight children were born within a thirteen year span. No multiple (Twins, etc) births, only good, healthy, nine and ten pounders delivered by a woman who was five feet two inches and gained fifty pounds with each pregnancy. But, here's the kicker, she lost the baby weight in no time...until the next time....
My parents married late, only marriage for each. She had the first child when she was twenty weight and my father was thirty-seven. By the time he was fifty, there were eight of us. Talk about culture shock!

Hi Shauna what a delightful book thoroughly enjoying it,I remember reading about Wallis Simpson she dropped her white handkerchief in a room full of people knowing full well that Edward would pick it up for her, the author wrote something along the lines of it was her way of showing the hold she had over him, I forget the name of the book but I always remember that part.

From what I reviewed about that book, it’s a bunch of re-vomited up bs. Js. What she wrote about Jackie is total bs about her “kissing” certain places of dead JFK. That’s a bit too much!

For some reason, I always get the short videos highlighting clips from a video that I’ve always seen after the video has been out several days and I’ve seen it.
Really enjoying this book. Love the stories. Sometimes I really don’t know what to think about the royal family. I enjoy them and I support them but sometimes the stuff they get up to I shake my head and think why do we put up with some people being treated so lavishly? Or behaving so badly without any repercussions. I’ve always been a people pleaser and very respectful, but as I get older, there’s no way I would let them treat me badly in a fit of temper or rudeness. I think we are all equal.
I do like that you’re going to read the chapters a little more closely together. It does seem like a long wait. Have a great day Shauna!🙂

Shorts are a way to promote the longer videos to new people. Just scroll past if they annoy you. I don’t think they work out who to show them to! 😅

Dearest Shauna, you are a hoot. I love your enthusiasm and joy in telling these tid-bits. The unveiling of the Rubensque mamá making an impromptu reveal at a State Dinner was a Kings Ransom! While listening to the stories I like to see what’s on the shelves behind you. Today at the right of the screen was a glass-half full of something reminiscent of white wine. But traveling to the next shelf parallel was a cylindrical something more mysterious. Is that a personal massage unit half covering the landscape photo? Remnants of a relaxing moment pre recording? 😂😂😂😂. Carry on 🎉🎉🎉❤❤

It was my son’s Pepsi can… it is in the next one too as I recorded 2 in a row! 😂 I had no idea he left it there! The other things are tea light candle holders!

Thanks Shauna...🎉❤ Why should we read the book written by both ungrateful and trashy Dou? Big NO... The books read and shared by you are more interesting and juicy about the royals.. (Team Late Lady Diana's, until we hear everything wrote about her)
Apparently, look how rude Prince Andrew treated the staff, and now he's being paid for how he treated them years ago.
Look how mean and rude H to most of the staff since his toddler and kiddies years, he's getting everything back to him.
Love VL's book _ THE COURTIERS. Thanks again for everything 🎉❤
