Should be interesting finding out which films are still around that had that early logo. 5:45 - Ah, the Mouse That Roared variant. Hilarious movie, and great way to start it!
I always loved how the Columbia statue sees the mouse and then picks up her dress running away while the cute mouse not understanding what she's doing. xD
For which variant of the company’s logo was the model Evelyn Venable, who also voiced Pinocchio’s Blue Fairy, and later married Hal Mohr after she graduated from UCLA?
I know this video was from a few years ago, but here is something I like to point out. The reason why the Torch Lady's "flag" has been a single color since the 1940s is because by this time, it was illegal to use the US flag as clothing.
Always thought right after 9/11/01 they would for a short while would relax the rule as a show of solidarity/patriotism? IMO this was a missed opportunity but I understand why the law is on the books.
If you read about Columbia, the lady who represented the best of the U.S. (There are drawings of her protecting a black man from a mob, a Chinese man with slurs and such on the wall behind him, she also reached arms out to Cubans, is pictured fighting for black people to have the right to vote) it makes all of this even more interesting, in my opinion. I don't know if the people who created the Columbia film company were as decent and honorable as Columbia herself, but hey, one can hope. Back when we were allowed to be happy and grateful to live in the United States, which was supposed to be a place that cared and fought for minorities, reached out to people who were hurting.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the woman in the Columbia Pictures intros. She always stood up like a brave woman, while we just sat down eating popcorn looking like a lazy human being.
The old TV prints of Three Stooges had the 1955 thru 1960 SCREEN GEMS logo with the majestic fanfare . The restored theatrical version of the shorts made betwen 1946, and 1958 have the original silent Columnia Pictures torch lady
Please find and add the variant from one of the Three Stooges show where it opens with Miss Columbia missing from her pedestal. An off camera voice says "we can't start without Miss Columbia" and then one of the Three Stooges (Joe I think it is) shows up dressed as Miss Columbia and has problems with the robe he is wearing but finally steps on the pedestal and takes the place of Miss Columbia to open the show. It's totally hilarious and would be a fine addition to this collection.
0:03-0:10 good old days everyone know! 0:20 old no music and boring 0:28 same one again 0:37 almost sounds like 20th century fox theme at start 0:51 the boring one but with music
5:50 The joke behind the model woman fleeing from the mouse is that, as indicated by the close-up, she was more concerned about her exposed toes being nibbled than the mouse itself. I don't know from what film the variant originates from though, or most of the others anyway for that matter. Regards, Samuel Farris.
At least these guys didn't mind having a little fun with the logo which appeared in actual movies (in the MGM logo history video, you showed the one with the Marx Brothers in it, but that was done just as a publicity stunt to show that they were now working for MGM...that *didn't* appear at the start of NIGHT AT THE OPERA)
Hi, Pal, how you doing? i hope youre great and keep doing these wonderful videos, every video you make is cooler than the last one. I want to ask you a request, ¿Can you make a New Line Cinema logo history? thanks for your time. Good luck, Peace, God Bless and Success, my friend TR3X PR0DUCTI0NS.
yes I get it Because Columbia is America's gijinka and Harry Cohn named a movie company after her (even having her wear an American flag in the '20s and '30s logos)
I feel like I should be scared by some of these Columbia logos but I'm not! I love them all! I thinks she's beautiful! I loved the mouse one and the disco lady ones! Wonder what movie the disco lady opening was for!! Not Saturday Night Fever, I know that-Saturday Night Fever was a Paramount film. Aha! I just found out it was "Thank God It's Friday", Motown and Columbia Pictures' 1978 Saturday Night Fever ripoff. I thought so!!
In the present logo u can see a face in the cloud behind the statue

The US government is so protective of the flag they won't let a movie studio logo lady wear it despite being America's gijinka
Who is the torch lady called?
Always thought right after 9/11/01 they would for a short while would relax the rule as a show of solidarity/patriotism? IMO this was a missed opportunity but I understand why the law is on the books.
That was in 1928 color
Oh dear, How busy you are USA flag Torch Lady's clothing and US flag counselor.
I love the opening to Bye Bye Birdie (1963)!
17:33 is the one we all know and love though! (Circa. 1990s?)

You know i think that Columbia Pictures gets the lest amount of love of all the major motion picture companies.
For years, she's been holding that torch up.
Biohazard logo
I love the Sunburst logo...great music by Mrs. Ciani!!
I love the silent ones. Where it's just the logo, strong and silent, and then moves on.
The logo with the close-up of the torch and Columbia Pictures under it is cute.
8:36 is from 'Cat Ballou' I believe.
You believed correctly.
Yup
It’s now a reference at the beginning of Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse :)
I wonder what movie did the lady appear with the MPAA logo at the bottom of the screen. Ok. I got it:
I Never Sang For My Father

17:33 Ah, I was waiting for this one
Modern one and 80s one terrified me when I was young
For my money, the ABSOLUTE BEST-EVER variation of the Columbia logo is the the one that opens Blade Runner 2049.
I love the old Columbia pictures but you know what else is old
480p
13:09 work it girl!
I remember the movie "The Man Called Flintstone" from 1966 the Columbia logo was Wilma Flinstone as the logo
Very cool compilation.
I wonder how they settled on using the same logo for 40 years from 1936 to 1976. And they didn't quit using the image of the '36 torch lady util 1993!
0:03-0:10 good old days everyone know! 0:20 old no music and boring 0:28 same one again 0:37 almost sounds like 20th century fox theme at start 0:51 the boring one but with music
The first movie to use the current logo was Last Action Hero.

Ah yes, the fabled Columbia Pictures foot fetish
She foreshadowed the release of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
It’s from “The Mouse That Roared.”
Image of 1000 scenes, another age, another time, will never be achieved by anyone, Thank you Columbia Picture!!.
I bet the one from 11:12 will be used for Once upon a Time in Hollywood since it's a Sony/Columbia movie and Tarantino favors old studio logos
I love The Grudge variant logo where the lady grows her hair like Sadako.
I remember when they used just the sunburst part for their television division, particularly for All In The Family.
The 5th logo just seems different from the others. It's a star thing, while the others are the iconic torch lady.
The very first one is the image found on the obverse of a Standing Liberty Quarter.
Thank God you didn't include the Ghost Rider 2 version.
You should have put in the one from "The Man Called Flintstone" where they put Wilma's head on the statue
I’d hear from a person who loved Susan Hayward that the 1950’s version was meant to reflect her look since she was very popular at the time.
The Karate Kid is the first Columbia film that comes to mind.

The ending of "the mouse who roared" shows the columbia montage in reverse but the mouse is still on the pedistal.

13:07 I like Thank god it’s Friday 1978
So this was an original company before the litteral creators of the PlayStation bought them? Crazy.
Aww, you don't have the Wilma Flintstone "Lady Liberty" opening from A MAN CALLED FLINTSTONE.
This should be called, "The Many Presentations Of Manifest Destiny"

What movie is that one with the mouse (where the lady runs off the pedestal) used for?
1:49 I heard this fanfare from a 20th century Fox history
Did the earlier logos show the lady holding onto the American Flag?
Clearly.
Update this to include the one from "Hey There, It's Yogi Bear!" (1964)
