Thanks for a odd reason. My buddy helped pull mine out so when I went to put it in I didn't know where the long return hose was routed. I was able to figure it out using your video. I could see the routing behind the battery tray by your video. So thanks 👍🏻
MY TANK I THINK IS LEAKING ON MY 17 RAM TOW TRUCK. AND BY THE WAY ,THAT 5 HOURS IT TOOK YOU. IS TOTALLY COOL. THE REASON WHY, IS BECAUSE YOU GOT TO SPEND TIME WITH YOUR SON. AND HE GOT TO SPEND TIME WITH YOU. INSTEAD OF BEING BALLS DEEP ON FACE BOOK OR TIK TOK. KIDS OUT HERE NEED MORE FATHERS JUST LIKE YOU. GOD SPEED
This is a great video I have been a mechanic for 50 year u save me a lot of time you did a great job u might not be a top mechanic but u have common sense
The sensor went out on my tank at 61K miles. I am a shade tree like yourselves. Thanks for the up load! I have the 2015 dodge shop manual. It is really bad. It says the same things that you found out. Remove the battery and holder. Also the inner fender. Keep in mind that you can get the same coolant fluid from Cummins for about 1/2 the price.
You guys did a great job!!!!!! I just starting having sensor issues and stop by my ram dealership (and these guys are great). they gave me a price of $500 installed for the job and when I asked why they said it is a ridiculous amount of labor. I could not understand why until i found your video. this is excellent and you two should consider doing more. btw, you are spot on about the coolant being MOPAR!!
Awesome video. I’m like you. I’m not a mechanic but I will tear into something to save a few hundred bucks if it is nothing major. I have a 2016 Ram 3500 with the tank leaking at the seam. 62,000 miles and warranty will not cover it. I will be doing this very soon.
Don’t worry about the haters because haters are gonna hate no matter what you say. Took your video and some of your steps minus a few bc I’m a mechanic with a lot of tools and had some that required me to not remove the fender. Thanks for the info and keep doing the videos with your son. Great bonding experience and knowledge is power.
Bro, you are as 'MERICAN AS IT GETS!!!. Thank you so much for the plain ENGLISH. You turned a 4 hour and this size wrenches, and this kind of screw driver bullshit into a 5 minute this is how its done masterpiece. Im about to start pulling fenders now and getting this shit done!!! Thanks again.
Dude you did awesome. Most people don't have the patience it takes to be a technician and even I don't at times although that is rare but when it does I walk away from it for a minute. I've done this job a few times. We got about 15 plus in our fleet. Well done my friend.
Good job guys. Good to see someone taking the initiative to do their own thing and save a couple $$. No judgement here, brother! Thanks for posting your experience to help others out.
hey thnks a lot for the video, its really help i got the same project actually i just got the coolant tank, planning to do today, i cant effort 500 bucks, when i purchased the tank for 100 something thnks guys
Heck ya bro it’s about the only video I ever made. Lol. Funny thing is my son who helped me make it bought the same year truck about 6 months ago and moved to Florida. He called me and told me his coolant tank started leaking in same place. He actually went back to the video we made together and watched it. Pretty cool! Glad I could help brotha!
Good work guys, i just saw a mechanic change out my tank and he pulled it out from the top. Only had to remove the battery and part of the fender well. 1 hour job for him.
Thank you for the video, keep them coming. I feel like you, took my truck in for warranty work the dealer charged 1,800 big ones for a three hundred dollar part.
I broke my coolant tank when second gen swapping my 5th gen used your video to figure out if a 13-18 coolant relocation tank would work so aye it worked for me 🤷🏼♂️ and I do this on the daily
No worries patna I thought you did just fine im fixing to get out here and do it my dang self in order to save a few $$$$$. I have a 2016 6.7 dodge dully Great job
Great video! This will help a lot. I have a leak that I can’t find. When I top it off it leaks. When I leave it for a while it stops. It has to be the tank, leak is passenger side roughly where the axle is. Was that where yours leaked?
My reservoir is good, I just need to replace the sensor. Do you think it can be done just by pulling the fender well out to access the sensor at the bottom of the reservoir? Btw, only video here showing the sensor location! Great work! Subscibed!
Took my 15 into the dealer when water pump went out. I noticed that antifreeze smell driving home, but figured they spilled some. Leave it for a few days till I gotta tow some posts, and it's leaking now I know... anyway the frikkin dealer says, we didn't do that.... blah blah and I'm going, man how the hell am I gonna break it a week after you took it apart??? So I got no money 4 lawyer, POS dealer went outta business. Bye Team Diodge in huntsville texas..
Cody, its way down on the bottom of the driver's side of the radiator, just above the intercooler. You can use a 10mm allen wrench or a regular one (I think 16 or 17mm) to open the drain. There is a nipple on the bottom of the drain where you can attach a piece of 3/8" tubing to direct the coolant to a bucket. It's a big pain to get attached but worth it to keep from making a bigger mess. Also, the drain pug shouldn't come all the way out. It has internal clips that hold it in the radiator. However, if you turn it more than half a turn, it will push out far enough for coolant to go everywhere. I learned that one the hard way.
Hello! I really did not have to. When i pulled the tank off there was still fluid in the hose going up to it so I just instantly put the new tank on and topped it off. Once I started the truck the fluid level went down a few inches but I just topped it off and its been fine ever since. Hopefully this helped! Thanks man
@@BigRichTN I am getting ready to do mine. Thanks for the upload. If I do it your way and keep the fluid in the hose, how many jugs do you think I need to finish up the job? My guess is just one if you are saying it was just a top off. Correct me if I am wrong.
Did your low coolant light turn on? I called the dealer and they informed me I needed to change the resivor in order to change out my coolant sensor. My truck is a 17 2500
@@martysworld6052 yes the coolant light kept coming on unless I added fluid and then it would go off for a day until it leaked back out and came on again. Im pretty sure the new tank came with the sensor already installed. All I had to do was swap the tank and plug the harness into the sensor already on the tank. Problem fixed.
You don’t have to use Mopar antifreeze. The antifreeze needs to be HOAT. Advance auto sells a Zerex orange HOAT antifreeze for $22. That said, if I was doing a flush and fill, I’d probably just buy Mopar since it’s around $27. The Zerex will work just fine. Also, if you have the Aisin transmission all that is is Mobil 3309. Dealership sells it for around $20 a quart, but you can get it from Amazon for $6 or 7 a quart. If you don’t believe me, look on the bottom of your transmission pan and it’ll say use Mobil 3309 only. If you have the 68rfe, I’m not familiar with that transmission.
I am a pro mechanic. You were straight to the point. You got the job done and that all that matters.
Thank you!!!! I wish all RUclips vids were like this!!! He got straight to the point and didn’t waste 3 hrs telling me how a ratchet works

Love this!!! Just a couple dudes wit pride and a lotta tools!!!! Awesome job!!
I am glad I looked at your video! Your right it’s hard to find this repair on video.. good job guys!
Man ive had a leak in my reservoir for years, but watching your video gave me some motivation to go ahead and replace it.

Now I know where to start. Thanks again.
You guys are still the only ones with this 4th generation coolant reservoir change out- good job fellas

Great video thank you guys keep it up 🤙🏾
Thanks. Was specifically looking for location of level sensor.
No problem bro!
I was looking for that same damn sensor myself great video to the point you guys are pretty good
And EGR valve could be leaking into the exhaust system You got to look for white smoke coming out of the muffler when you're driving down the road
Good job
I liked the video bro. Thanks
Nice video,i have a low coolant light on ..but level above max line..i order a new sensor hopefully that fixes that issue
everything you need to know to get it done!
Str8 to the point no BS, great job. Where did you get the replacement?
Great video! This will help a lot. I have a leak that I can’t find. When I top it off it leaks. When I leave it for a while it stops. It has to be the tank, leak is passenger side roughly where the axle is. Was that where yours leaked?
Good job brotha if the end result is a fixed issue to hell with what others might say thanks!
How did you purge air from cooling system
BTW, I POST YOUR VIDEO ON CUMMINS DIESEL FORUM!!
Heck ya bro! Im definitely not a mechanic by any means and this was one of my first utube videos. Appreciate the love boss!
How did you know your seal was bad was you able to see it coming out or no I’m having the same issue with mine atm
Did you ever put the heat shield onto the new reservoir? Any issues with heat from the turbo?
My reservoir is good, I just need to replace the sensor. Do you think it can be done just by pulling the fender well out to access the sensor at the bottom of the reservoir?

Yes

hey thanks for the video helped a ton.Now i want to flush the coolant but i can't find a drain plug for the radiator any suggestions? thanks

Where did you order the coolant tank from
Where did you buy the resubmit tank can you put a link? Please and thanks 🙏🏽!
I remember thinking oh let me just replace this hose, 6hrs later its night and raining in winter because these things are stupid as hell to take out
Good

You probably got a blown head gasket it starts all slow if That's at 6.7 turbo diesel You probably got a blown head gasket like mine had
Usually on the cummins, that's not the culprit
Has anyone able to confirm if you can swap out the tank with out taking off the fender?
So you're admit you're a shade tree mechanic then
I need to change out my coolant temp sensor on the reservoir....if I remove it will coolant leak out ?
No it wont. But you gonna have to remove fender well
@@BigRichTN appreciated brother !

you forgot to bash Ram for making hard and pain
use zerex antifreeze. cheaper.

Wrong. For 2013-2018 it’s OAT coolant. If u put HOAT in ur going to make a gelatin mess.
