Iam not a farmer, I come from the automotive side of things, but am also a bit of AG enthusiast.I bet farmers who find videos like this one probably love you! I watch quite a few of the more popular "farm tubers" and it seems to me information like this is so helpful and money saving, your whole " how to repair " line of videos are great. Frankly after just watching a few of your videos I think you are criminally underrated as far as subs go. I hope this channel picks up even more. You deserve it! Not only are your other " big repair job" videos fascinating for at least another mechanic that works on much smaller stuff to watch, but the how to videos... just invaluable if you own this equiptment!
I've always cleaned up the lower variable inner sheave with 80 grit then 220 grit emery cloth to keep the sealing surface as round and smooth as possible. Keep up the great videos.
Great videos. Like your way of working, cool, clean and calm. You must be making it a lot easier for the Sloan sales guys to close a sale. Sales get the first deal, Service gets the second and the rest.
A truer statement was never said, great service makes the next sales a great deal easier. Bad service can keep you from even getting in the door to make another sale.
Just found your channel good stuff I like meat and potatoes stuff keeps my brain working even though I worked in the car and med duty truck industry for 25yrs nice to see something different.
I think I had a 7700 variable speed flashback from the 70s. We had a 1970 then a 1978….. striking the design similarly. Now rocking the Case IH flagship with the driveshaft style header drive. I do love your content…..keep em comin.
Your video and verbal skills are really getting top notch, a pleasure to watch you at your calling. I hope your back allows you to continue at your profession, take care of that back. It only gets worse as you age as you have already learned.

I just did the same job last week on a 9770. This video would have saved me a little time but I did pretty good compared to yours. Thanks for the content.
Very very interesting! Thanks for posting this, you are doing a great work! Don't worry about the noise in the background, busy shop is a good shop! Kudos and hope you get far more viewers soon, you deserve it!
Had that hi torque variable on my 9770. After four sets of shives and belts in 3 years went fixed drive. Smoothest and coolest running thing yet would never go back to that money pit.
Does your dad sell the reverser tool? Any suggestions for doing the job without that socket? Having trouble breaking it loose and keeping it held still
Awesome video Zeth!! Sure makes me miss wrenching! Surprised at how much metric hardware there is! I guess it’s common? Also surprised that you wear a ring! It it a plastic one that breaks easily? No rings were allowed in the shop back in the day, seen to many Guy skin there finger due to a gold or silver ring. Very cool that your Dad made that special socket for you! Maybe sell the idea to Deere? 😁 Keep up the awesome videos fixing that green iron! I really enjoy them!!
S670 here, what do you recommend for greasing the chopper drive jackshaft? Ours currently has plugs in it but looks simple enough to put zerks in and grease it. Seems like it should need some maintenance over the absolutely nothing that the manual recommends. Thanks
Make sure you grease them and maybe pull one plug out and fill the cavity. I just pulled ours apart and I thought they went to sealed non greasable bearings but I was clearly wrong cause they are missing the inside seal.
So are you saying that you should grease these with the head off if possible so that you can run the speed up and down to get grease in the whole upper sheave?
Just if you have a platform hooked up. Unhook the multicoupler and driveshafts then grease and run your speed up and down. If you have a platform or draper plugged in the combine will not speed the feeder house up.
Wonderful videos. Very informative. I have a question regarding the big 70 mm nut on front drive and the piston on upper drive.Do they not need to be torqued to a specific value ?
Zeth, help. You mentioned a cam kit but I am being advised that the entire assembly is required. I noticed that parts advisor shows the cams but they don't have identified numbers. Would you have the cam kit number?
Just a suggestion. When we were installing o rings on mating surfaces, it was a best practice to grease it off the unit then install it. This way the o ring has grease on its entire surface rather than just on the outer half. Remember, that o ring moves and seals on the inside half also. Good Job. Thanks for the video!.
@@ZKMasterTech can I bug you for a part # and any adapters you use? I noticed today on a 4940 sprayer the coolant reservoir was a screw on time verse the cam lock style. I’ve following your channel for a bit now, I’ve been working for RDO(Deere Dealer) here in the Pacific Northwest

The rear drive is original or in my 5 years at the company it is. The front feeder house drive is new an has a roll pin that holds the inside shiv on not a nut like the one you did. I think some of our troubles the center idler the guy that ran the combine has it on top of the belt. Up until now I have not been involved with the combine. very good your work . my name and EVALDO I'm from Brazil. I'm using translator to talk to you. I would like to know if you TB do electrical repairs on these machines. and if you can post here for
I swear a lot of premature wear on belts and wearing surfaces are from guys that wash their machines in the late fall/winter when they get done with them.... keep them dry and spend damn near a whole day with the air wand before you put them up, wash them when your doing pre harvest service in the summertime
By belt on the variable drive has been loose on my 9770 past couple of mornings but once you turn the head on it tightens and works all day and never loses speed. Could it just be leaking off at the multi coupler?
It's amazing how complicated everything has gotten the days of plain and simple are gone and the farmer being able to do the work is getting much more difficult

S670 here, what do you recommend for greasing the chopper drive jackshaft? Ours currently has plugs in it but looks simple enough to put zerks in and grease it. Seems like it should need some maintenance over the absolutely nothing that the manual recommends. Thanks
I use heavy duty synthetic grease
Make sure you grease them and maybe pull one plug out and fill the cavity. I just pulled ours apart and I thought they went to sealed non greasable bearings but I was clearly wrong cause they are missing the inside seal.
Using antiseize is like putting your shopping cart away; you don't _have_ to but you sure appreciate it when everyone else does.

How hot should these run during full load operating conditions? It seems like they run very hot.
Yeah I don’t know what the temp gets up to but it’s up there. The spring pressure and hydraulic pressure on that belt produces heat.
@@ZKMasterTech does a multi speed or fixed speed reverser last longer and produce less heat?
@@SlimFarmer yes most definitely. 5 speed is the only way to go. Way less problems. Oil in the reverser doesn’t get cooked either.
@@ZKMasterTech thanks for you’re input. No wonder it’s got to be synthetic oil changed yearly. 🤣
