      Tell me about it. I'm in Canada and just received my Solar 1.7V from Spain. Two thirds of the import duties were taxes, but the rest was UPS crap. Nearly $300 on top of what we paid for the guitar. We expected it, though, so we weren't shocked. The taxes are standard, but the extra hundred bucks for UPS to fill out a sheet of paper really pisses me off. Then they proudly tell you your item 'cleared customs'. We bought B stock, so the customs charges basically ate up everything we saved from that...lol.

    • @creepingnet
      @creepingnet 2 года назад +1

      That's how they get you - once you get to the step of "shipping" - ie UPS - the shipping charges will look legit. If you run into ANY difficulty in payment, that's how their scam goes totally exposed, because they will ask you to purchase gift cards for them as a "compensation". Also, anyone asking for too many financial services right off the bat, is a HUGE red flag. Once I got suspicious I decided just to pull a little more info but I'll comment on my own.

    When scammers attempt to use a check to pay for a guitar (and claim that someone will pick it up), they send you a bogus check that is often written for more than your asking price. Then, when the person shows up to pick up the guitar, they want change from the check along with the guitar. These are bogus checks that you will have to eventually cover with your own money, because you’ve cashed a check that will be proven to be fake.

    A couple of more warnings: If you didn't make an effort to enter, you didn't, so the notification of winning is a scam. Also, I recommend avoiding Zelle. At my previous employment(a school), a potential student was informed of certain up front fees that would be due before they could start, but we can't move forward until certain other things had been done(like their student loan approved). They went ahead and sent the money using Zelle, then they sued us to get it back, which is how we found out where it came from. It felt like they were laundering money and found an avenue to get it done, even if it was a relatively small amount. I really recommend your method of public places and cash transaction whenever possible. I'm selling off my sound production company's assets and am having to deal with a lot of this.

    This is completely off topic but what the hell. I was just watching a video of Gina Carano speaking before the premier of the movie she made. And she said "Art Doesn't Belong To Hollywood". I think that's true for music too. Art's not owned by the labels, or the money grubbing club owners. Like Glenn said "You Don't Need To Compete".

I am trying to get a good Metallica/Megadeath tone and I just can’t get it. I am not experienced at all at making tones but even the tones other people have told me to use don’t sound right. What tips do you have for getting this tone or a good thrash tone in general? I have spent hours at this point trying to figure out something I know nothing about.

This litterally involved 3 towns and across state lines. My account in one town, credit card in another, and the store front moron in yet another town. I'm just gonna go ahead and comment at the start of this, thanks for the PSA. It's definitely not your fault - bunch of us talked about it in discord right after we started getting messages after commenting on it. Same shit happened on Beato's channel last week when I commented there, too. Exact same message, except it was in response to a comment I put on one of Beato's videos! So it's not you being singled out. This shit is happening everywhere, on every big channel, and getting word out is super important!!!!

    Here on YT, the scammers are really easy to spot. If they're channel name doesn't match EXACTLY to the OP's channel, it's a SCAM. I report the channel immediately (from comment), and, if I'm grumpy for having wasted my time reading their bullshit, I reply with 'Piss off scammer. Reported.'
    I get that it's kind of easy to fall for these, because deep down we really, *really* want it to be true! But you know the saying: If it seems too good to be true, it probably isn't.

    One scam that's common with e.g. Craigslist is someone will write you a check for more money than you're asking for the item, and then ask you to give them the extra in cash as "change". The only way you should accept a check as payment for an Internet sale is if you're actually at the bank when they issue a cashier's check.

Zelle Scammer said they were sending their wife, and that she doesn't carry cash. Noooope! They didn't even ask me about the instrument I was selling either, they just wanted to know when they could get the instrument and they messaged me as soon as I listed the item.

      if they're not willing to meet in person and pay in cash then it should be a no deal. scammers know that people like the convenience of using money apps but an in person transaction in a public setting is THE best way to uncover these asswipes. and if they are being shady or hesitant then thats a huge red flag. someone that honestly just wants to buy your item and go about their way won't be bullshitting you like that.
