@Kendrick Elliott Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm trying it out now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thanks for the video, it's very useful! Can you make a tutorial on how to make rhythmic melodies in very quick time! That would help a lot. Thanks again! Waiting for the video!!
I don't recmmend tuning a kick too much. Max one or two semitones I'd say. If it's tuned too far then it will always sound funny. Note that you don't need to tune it to the root note. As long as you tune it to the nearest note that's in the scale then you'll be fine.
@@FireWalkMusic Question about that: If the distance for the note below and the note above the root note are equal distance from the root note, can you use either one and just pick which one works best?
Hello FW...how about a tutorial on how to add to mix all do these ambient noises/plucks/acids/pads/ just after the drop in trance music ....my projekts sounds very empty and simple(just kick and bass).
Great video. About the frequency of a note there is an app available called Note Freak which has all notes covered with its corresponding frequency. It’s free.
I tuned a kick the other day and honestly just opened the piano roll and chose the same note as the melody was on without any pitch adjustment. Should you not do this? It seems to sound fine to me.
I really appreciate the videos, firewalk. Your instructions are so clear and concise. Could you please do a video about making synths or sound design for beginners? Thanks a lot :)

This is a really helpful video Firewalk , thanks for that and yeah could you please make a tutorial on how to assign our drum pads in midi keyboard and using the FPC with it and using some other samples in FPC and not the default ones. Thanks again
Your information and videos are fantastic. But wish to offer my "armchair" thoughts.( I use 'armchair ", as you are the teacher here and I will be respectful but offer a different thought, than you are showing.) I choose to download load g tuner. ( Did not like the fact had to down load other things, just to be able to download this plugin). While waiting for approx. ten minutes to download. I thought ' Why do I really need this plugin" So, I did not download and removed the pc add luggage it gave me. In my piano roll, I can change the kick or any instrument to the correct key that I need, save on 1 plugin and hence, less CPU usage?. Anyways, thank you for the wealth of information here and definitely will be looking at your other videos. Thank you again from a new subscriber.
Kicks doesn't sound good when they are tuned too much. I would only recommend tuning them slightly. No more than a few hundred cents at the most. Usually, as long as the kick is in a key that's in the same scale, you'll be OK. you don't always have to tune it to the root note. If it's a semitone away from matching a key that's in the same scale, then it might be better to just tune it to that key instead.
Glad you liked it :) Not all kicks need to be tuned and some times it sounds better when they're not. Some times they sound better when they are in the same key as the track. It's also worth trying when you have a kick that you really like, but it just doesn't sit quite right in the mix. Tuning it just a little bit can often make it pop right into place :)
There's a few ways to do it. The easiest is probably to go to options, file settings, and then click manage plugins. From there you can select the folders in which your plugins reside. I recommend installing all plugins to the same folder. For example c:\my VSTs\ :)
No, when you move it around in the piano roll it will pitch it, but it will pitch it based on whatever the root note of the sample is to begin with. If you want to do it that way you have to make sure that C in the piano roll is also C in the sample. It can be done, but it's not faster than this method. :)
Quick question for you, I have a bass sample in E im using, does this mean I can decide if I want the track to be Minor or Major? Music theory is my worst nightmare haha
@UCVvm9kiF99TiXlZAbIQq9RQ thought so, thanks for the quick reply again bud, without people like you helping the scene it would be twice as hard to get into production
Yes, the root note is the same. In E major you would be using the notes C#,D#,E,F#,G#,A,B , While in E minor you would be using C,D,E,F#,G,A,B. If you want to make a happy sounding track then go with E major. If you want it to sound sad then go with the minor scale.
There are many ways to do it. You could find the resonant frequencies for the key you are in and boost those, and reduce those that's not in the key. There's also dedicated plugins that will do this for you. A general rule of thumb when it comes to kicks though is that you should only tune it if it needs just a little bit of tuning. When you need to pitch it by a lot it tends to sound awful, and in those cases I find that it's better to just find a different kick instead.
Just use some hats that sound good. Some people like to tune their kicks, and some do not. The kick is the most energetic thing in the mix so it's important. I don't bother with the hats personally, as long as they sound good in the mix. :)
how can u tell the tune of ur song. usually i just go with what i hear in general. i've heard about tuning b4 and all but like u said sometimes it doesnt seem quite necessary.expecially when it comes to kicks in my opinion
Hi, If you are using FL Studio then you can open the piano roll, then go to "helpers" and select "scale highlighting" and choose a scale there. You can also select "automatic", it will then attempt to detect the scale of your song automatically and show it in the hint bar. It doesn't always work perfectly though. The old school way of detecting the key of a track is to try out the keys on the piano repeatedly while the song is playing. When you find a key that sounds good with all your chords, you have most likely found the key that the track is in. :)
They can some time differ a bit, I've noticed the same thing when autotuning vocals. I would manually check that the fundamental frequencies match the note.
the g tune plugin doesn't work on my fl studio, I have a 32 bit version of it that doesn't read the sound and I tried downloading the 64 bit version but it wont pop up in my manage plugins window
If you're having trouble then I suggest using Edison, which can do the same thing. I have a video showing this here: ruclips.net/video/w6XkRHuXlNM/видео.html
Doesn't work for me. I tried it on my kick and it worked for a few minutes, right now it shows absolutely nothing even though the sound is playing. I already tried to reinstall but nothing happened.
Unfortunately it doesn't always work 100% with all samples. Especially if the sample is right in between semitones. Have you tried with another sample? You can also try adjusting the pitch in the sampler slightly and see if that will enable it to "see" the key. :)
An alternative method is to load the kick drum sample into edison. Then go to the flag icon to the right of the wrench tool, and in the drop down menu select "detect pitch regions". It will display the note of the kick. In some cases, there will be more than one note detected. If it is a bassy kick, I personally use the longer portion, or the sustain part of the kick. Once the note is detected, simply go to the sampler channel and click on the wrench icon. On the piano roll at the bottom, assign the sample to the correct note by right clicking on the note that was detected in edison. Hope that isn't too long and helps! :)
I usually do it by ear, but you should be able to use G-tune on snares and other "one shot" samples as well. It won't always work, but for the most part it will. :)
Unfortunately, dubstep isn't really my area of expertise, but everything else such as mixing, eq, and other "how to" specific stuff within the program itself should still be quite useful :)

Hello. Say, my track is in C minor. So should i tune my kick to C minor or C major? I use a different instrument for reference to tune my kick to it by ear. Thank you.
It depends. Generally a kick that's in the same key sound better. And if it's in the root note then that's the absolute best. But often times they are not, and usually they will tend to sound worse when tuned a lot. Therefore I recommend to tune it to the nearest note that's in the scale, so that you don't have to tune it by much. I find that when tuned more than a few hundred cents it ruins the kick.
Just choose the key you think sound the best. Any given melody can be played in many different keys, and it will sound quite different depending on the key you choose. I suggest learning some basic music theory. That will make it much easier in the long run. At least learn the basic stuff such as keys and chords and such. If you don't know any keys then just stick to the White notes, if you that then you're sure that it's in the same key.

Hey. Steve, (who has a background from radio) is doing the talking while I'm doing everything else. :) I've considered doing some voiceovers myself as well, in order to be able to make more tutorials faster, but people seem to be so pleased with Steve's voice that I've just kept working with him. I'm from Norway myself so my spoken English isn't as great as what you're getting from Steve. :) I suppose my reasoning is that because these tutorials are being watched by people from all over the world, it's probably a lot easier for some to understand what Steve is saying than me. :) Thanks for the suggestion, I'm not aware of that plugin, but I'll definitely check it out! :)
Automation tips tricks faster workflow and organize ..... using send etc for gross beat etc for better sound and mix ..... better transition ...... better sound selection trap beats ..... better drum sequence programming for randomizes but dominate keep listen tuned ... build up intros ... lol I know allot Also Gvst only windows 😢

xMaSSxHyST3RiA I never put any thought to that but I can definitely agree with that idea, I would get tired of hearing the same snare over and over after a while

So I need to know the key of song first and then tune the samples ?
That's correct :)
thx master
great
Thanks :)
Hey I can't see the link...
www.gvst.co.uk/gtune.htm
Merciii !!!!
Hey man, my g tune won't display anything when i play stuff
It doesn't always work 100% unfortunately. It depends on the sample
just use new tone drag in drum wav then turn up centre knob and turn down variation knob and that is the key
Thanks for the sugestion :)
one question, is this you voice in the video ?
by the way, CGain from Gvst is also very nice and ram-friendly for track gaining.
I suppose my reasoning is that because these tutorials are being watched by people from all over the world, it's probably a lot easier for some to understand what Steve is saying than me. :)
Thanks for the suggestion, I'm not aware of that plugin, but I'll definitely check it out! :)
no link bro
It's in the description bellow the video. :) Here's the link: www.gvst.co.uk/gtune.htm
I increased the pitch of my kick all the way up and it only reached 100, I need 261 for C4
You need to increase the pitch knob range. It's to the right of the pitch knob.
PDC Plug-Ins Delay Compensation

Automation tips tricks faster workflow and organize ..... using send etc for gross beat etc for better sound and mix ..... better transition ...... better sound selection trap beats ..... better drum sequence programming for randomizes but dominate keep listen tuned ... build up intros ... lol I know allot
Also Gvst only windows 😢
I already have videos about a some of these things, like automation, transition effects and send effects :) I'm Going to focus on mixing and mastering videos in the time to come, as those have been in high demand. :)
