Excellent. I've gone on vacation to Vancouver, but that's about it. I've lived in L.A. my entire life, and I've prosecuted criminals and represented them for over 41.years. Everything from Death Penalty Murder Cases to traffic offenses. We live in what most Californians would consider a relatively safe suburb, yet we regularly see armed robberies, smash and grabs, burglaries and car thefts. Not that many, but enough to have to be thinking about it everytime we go to the mall. Maybe I'm just paranoid about crime having been so close to it in my profession. My kids would say so, having
to wait longer than their friends to go out in public by themselves. From the many Vancouver Videos I've seen, I've got the impression that felony criminal activity, expecially serious person on person crime is very rare. Your review tends to support this. Homelessness and drug usage is everywhere, and every place seems to have an area that's sketchy. Then there's the gun issue here,
and the "normalization" of mass shootings. You just can't compare L.A. crime with anyplace in B.C. I think you've succesfully communicated that in this video. One expense that you didn't mention is car ownership and insurance in B.C.

Thanks, @marcberrenson570. I think you hit it dead on. There's crime here but it's very rare that it's violent person on person crime. Not to say that doesn't happen, but it's a rare occurrence. We certainly don't worry about the possibility of getting mugged or car-jacked here. I do have a video on the cost of living in Vancouver where I talk about the cost of owning a car here. It covers car insurance and gasoline...but not buying a vehicle. Our car insurance premiums have historically been high in comparison to the rest of Canada. They went down significantly a couple years ago when ICBC (the only insurance option) changed their system. We are now much more inline with the average across Canada. Most insurance is around $2,000/yr CAD. Gas (primarily due to tax) is about 30% higher than anywhere else in Canada. As for buying a car, prices are similar to the US. We pay the US price for a new car but converted to CAD. As with elsewhere in North America used cars have become much more expensive through the pandemic. Hope this helps!

@htp7008 100% The whole area gets painted with a uniform brush too often. There are massive differences from one side of Metro Vancouver to the other in all sorts of ways!

You mentioned the east side is affordable, you mean the crime area?

Hi @jerryphamrealtor. Not sure what part of the video you are referring to? The only time I remember referring to a more affordable area of the city in this video was when I was talking about living Downtown and I mentioned that the West End was a more affordable part of Downtown Vancouver. Let me know if you can point out the specific part of the video you are referring to and I'll try and clarify.
