I was there. I was working as a stage manager for the Haitian drummers since I speak French [Creole]. All of the groups, and personnel, were staying at a really fancy hotel, all courtesy of the Smithsonian. I was shocked at the racism in Washington DC... I was literally told NOT to fraternize with ANY of the Cuban or Haitian groups - by a woman wearing a white gown! -, which of course I ignored... we were followed by the CIA every day, our rooms were bugged etc.. ... still can't believe it!
Totally agree with the US, they must be controlled at all times; and when the show is over? Swiftly put into an airplane and back to their countries they go. Nothing wrong with that.
