This honestly is the best 7 string you can get if you're a beginner wanting to test out a 7 string. The 26.5" scale is the number one selling point, as most other companies just go with a 25.5" scale, which really helps keep the tension right with the low B without the high strings being too tense. The extra inch goes a long way.

    • @beefnacos6258

Why would a beginner play a seven string? I never understood that concept.

@@beefnacos6258 because most new bands play in drop tunings and 7 strings. I understand that the stigma is you need to immediately take lessons on traditional instruments, tunings, and learn everything but that's not true. Plenty of guitar players out there have just winged it. I got a 7 string super young, and I loved it. It's just one extra string.

I have that same guitar you had Ray, black with the MAPLE fingerboard! So classy looking. Got it for $180 USD. Completely stripped it down, sanded, sprayed body and headstock with a chameleon paint, replaced Jackson logo with a new silver leaf waterslide decal, put a TusqXL nut in, Gotoh locking tuners, SD Distortions, hipshot bridge, and Schaller strap locks. Best 7 string I have, and its solid and stable with me putting it in Drop E

I bought one off Amazon for $200. Played metal for 25 years. Never had a 7 string, thought it would be a good first 7 string for a home recording project with a buddy. Dropped A had some awful fret buzz and the intonation went to hell, so much so the low string is off the fret board at fret 14. Tried adjustments it didn't help, so I'm going to upgrade the bridge, the tuning keys, and throw on some duncan nazgul and sentient pickups. Other than that though, it sounds great.

I have a dinky js22 6 string and right out of the box (once you change the tuners to locking) is pretty damn good. Fret work is great, no issues at all and has a lot of balls tuned to Drop C. And was only $190! Jackson has some of the best cheap guitars out there, action was already decently low straight out of the box. Jackson ftw! 🤘 I may pick up a dinky 7 string now to toy around with

One of the best thing about the big guys is they have kept their entry level guitars at about the same price point. 30 years ago $200 was like $300 or so today. Affordable guitars have become much better over the past 30 years. High end has always been high end, but they did start at like $500 in the 90s and like $800 today. I play bass and never really paid much attention to guitar specs till recently.

This is one of my favorite guitars that I’ve ever owned. The neck is by far the shining quality, idk if it’s just me but it felt like it was slightly thinner on the low-B string than the high-E side (almost like a teardrop) and I LOVED it. Definitely regretted selling it and haven’t been able to come up with a justification for buying it to my wife. 😅

Picked up one up for $75 as a “scratch and dent”. Through in a set of EMG’s (707x for the bridge and 707 for the neck) hipshot bridge, Tusq nut, and some GOTOH locking tuners and it’s turned into a beast for under $600. The neck alone punches way above its class. Turned into a really fun mod project.

I recently bought the older JS22-7 (matte finish, no pickup cover) and I'm very satisfied. Great guitar, has awesome modding potential, I'd suggest swapping out the pickups first for some EMGs.
Only "problem" it has, for mine at least, is that the 7th string has a very buzzy and muddy sound, chugging it sounds like metal scraping. It could probably the setup 'cause I'm shit at doing it.

Bought one for a great price a few years back online from GC. My experience with it was not good. There was stuff that I expected on a cheap guitar, like cheap bridge, nut, tuners, & electronics, but it showed up with mile high action and an extremely bowed neck. After an entire day of 1/8th turns on the truss rod I finally got the next straightened out. After that I still couldn't get the action below probably 3mm because a couple of frets were low and wouldn't ring out at a lower setting. Eventually I got around to leveling the frets, then shortly after had to replace a potentiometer. I ended up giving it away to a kid in the family who wanted to learn to play.

I can barely handle 6 strings, but that price is super tempting!

I find it funny in the comment sections when people say
"What a great guitar for a beginner"
      Huh?

@@beefnacos6258 I'm pretty sure they mean a person who wants to try a seven without breaking the bank! But I hear ya....

Hey brother. Thanks so much for the video and info. Shout out to your friend. I’m looking to get the model with the maple neck. My bday is coming up and this will make a nice affordable gift. I had a Jackson 7 string with reverse headstock. I got it on a trade and it was okay. The low b didnt want to intonate. With your review it gives me a little more confidence in buying this one. Would you say the maple neck one you played is on par with the one in the video? Thanks

Would prefer the original pointy headstock, but maybe that's because of the thrash era I'm from...

I bought the matte finish one back in 2016 I believe, tons of issues with it. Parts falling off, pickup noise (could be a grounding issue), the plastic spacers in the tuners drying up and breaking. I could look down the neck and SEE uneven frets, replaced the nut with a Tusq and now have buzzing on the first fret low B. Maybe I got unlucky but this guitar sucks IMO. Save up another few hundred bucks and buy a better Jackson, Schecter or LTD 7 string.

Offhand, does anyone know the largest gauge low strings one can put on with the stock nut?

I have one of their king V's from years ago in this line. Really regret trying to put EMG's in it as I haven't been able to play it since 🙃 I need to find out how to wire one up or take it into a shop and get them to do it

Does anyone have any recommendations on the type of strings I could use for this guitar? Any tips? I’m going to buy this exact guitar and any ideas for making my experience with this even better would be much appreciated!

My ESP LTD H-308 is a steal for an 8 string.
