Got A Ukulele Buyers Guides and Reviews looks at a highly unusual instrument in the form of the Ekoa Clara from Blackbird - take a look at the detailed writtern review here - www.gotaukulele... #gotaukulele #ukulele #review
Definitely my favourite uke of all. Lovely natural look and no trees sacrificed. Blessed sound. One day, one day.
No one is cutting down trees to make instruments.. that is and has been illegal for many years. Most are made from wood that comes from naturally fallen wood.
It fits beautifully in a mandolin case. I just love the tone and volume of this uke ,it’s now my very favourite , fitted with Worth Brown floro carbon strings with a Low G. Well worth every cent you will ever spend on a ukulele.
They really are terrific
Five years later, no other videos have been posted, his family and friends haven't seen him since, still off in his own world playing this uke... nice review!:)
Boy, can you play. I just finished up a 6 night uke course at my local adult ed program and my very well rated $50.00 soprano uke sounds like I’m killing a cat, which I’m pretty certain is not the uke’s fault. To hear you play just shows what these instruments are capable of in more sophisticated hands.
wish I had the money to drop on this. it sounds like happiness
Certainly a serious price - but considering its tone, I do think it's worth every penny
Thank you Barry, I am a mad but unskilled uke player. If I ever become reasonably skilled I will buy one of these based on your review.
You'd love it Peter!
Such a sweet, beautiful tone! Man ... Nice one Barry! 😎
Yeah, it's quite remarkable really
That is one serious ukulele. The sound is so full!
That is l.o.v.e.l.y., man I'd like to have one of these. You play beautifully too. Cheers mate!
Thanks
Saw these on the Southern Ukulele Store website and thought they were interesting but at that price for a moulded ukulele, you've got to be kidding. How wrong could I be? Best sounding Uke I've heard you play.
Yeah - I think a few people think that at first... and then they play them. It's quite incredible.
Oh wow! When we win the lottery.........
Thanks Barry - fab review as always. Oh, and love the t-shirt! 😉
Always proud to wear the shirt!
Thank you for a great review, loved it. Ordered, delivered and it just sings! :)
Gareth Evans they are just terrific eh?
First off, WOW! That is one miraculously rich, nuanced and beautifully clean instrument!
I'm not sure what you are using to capture audio, but it seems less clean than I think the instruments are in actuality. Not a jab at you at all, I just don't have access to some of the beautiful instruments(That you review) in the music shops here in upstate NY, so I have to watch a few different videos to get a real idea for how something may sound.
PS Any recommendation on a good set of strings to take the edge off the brightness of an entry level laminate concert Uke?
Yeah - it's just a cheap Snowball mic - to be honest, videos are not the main thrust of the reviews - I only do them to accompany the written reviews. In fact, when I started I didn't do videos at all!
Re strings - it's a very personal subject, but I always found Aquila Nylguts are warmer sounding on laminates than fluorocarbon
Thanks for the input. As a newcomer to ukuleles (Coming from guitar) I just need a place to start looking, whether the search will ever end, well . . .
Thanks again, keep the reviews rolling out, I really value your insights. Everyone has their thoughts on what makes a great youtube review channel. Personally I think it really comes down to the reviewer, and you have things pretty well nailed down on that front.
Thanks man!
Woooow, that sound : so rich, deep, and resonant !... I'm blown away !!! I'd never have imagined a synthetic stuff could sound so incredibly good, and so... alive ? I mean it doesn't sound "standard" at all (like laminate wood often does). Concerning the look, I personally don't feel it appealing, though. Especially this gloomy brown ! The canevas material would easily be enhanced by some earthy tones, like a hint of mustard yellow, or wine reddish brown, or olive green. Or even graphite grey or creamy off-white. But all this is very personal, isn't it ! 😄
They do now ( I think) make them with other sunburst colours. Yes, very personal - still - one of the best ukuleles I have ever played
@@GotAUkulele I'm very tempted to put it on my list, lol. I'm a left-handed player, and I've seen one for lefties on the Southern Ukulele Store. Plus I live in the Swiss Alps : the temperature and hygrometry variations are dreadful for ukes ! This one might be the Holy Grail.
I just bought a Uke not this one but your videos and site we're and are THE most helpful thank you very much! I can't wait to learn some Steven Universe songs!
Awesome! Thank you!
i Love this, maybe I love the bigger version more.... Faralon. Thx for a great review.
Thanks Barry. Interesting uke and what it's made of. It almost sounds more guitar-like to my ears!
Yes, know what you mean - not traditional ukulele in tone - but still a marvellous musical instrument
Very nice sound!
That is lovely
What a unique ukulele! Very impressed with this ukulele but I'm still sticking with my aNueNue Uc200.
Totally unique!
Yeah, looks and sounds totally heavenly but the fingerpicking sound is the highlight!
Wonderful instruments. Hoping to feature another variant of these soon!
this is the first time I see you happy with a uke
Honestly - there’s lots of reviews on here that made me just as happy. Check out the Ken Timms or the Moonbird. Or the Koaloha Tenor etc
Outstanding. We have a carbon fiber model my wife loves it!
Yes a very clever brand that need commending
i reallyy really love that blackbird, they gorgeous,,i wish i have that one,,
Me too - didn’t want to send this one back!
I wish they made the tenor ekoa in the pineapple shape
WOW!! A very rich sound
Yeah, amazing.
It sounds so good!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️
I've heard about these, fantastic instruments and it's good that people aren't afraid to try something other than wood. I would certainly have one if I wasn't skint. But do you actually hear the sound coming out of that top hole as well?
Fantastic ukulele and very green as well but no hard case for the price which is very high, but what an amazing sounding instrument
I've been thinking back about what I said about the hard case. I suspect Blackbird will point out that it is super tough and may not need one. I still think I would like one though!
GotAUkulele A hard case will help protect the instrument from humidity and heat and cold better than a padded gig bag as well as hard knocks
Yes, I think that's my point though - these things are totally resistant to heat and humidity and are tough as old boots. I would still want one because it's an odd shape, plus its $1300!!
GotAUkulele with the instrument being made of different materials I didn't know this , very good but I think for th price I would still like a hard case
Yep - agreed. I think the ekoa isn't as tough as carbon fibre, but still stronger than solid woods. Wouldn't like to test it though!
Very special and nice ukulele !
Oh, very special this one!
Do want! Of course, I want the $1300 first... P.S., don't diss your playing! Your "standard" riffs sound like classics on this uke.
Thanks!
VERY COOL
Extremely!
This might be the best uke Iv ever heard.
It’s remarkable. A touch too bright to be considered best for me, but very very good
too rich for me too.. darn!
living water low g fluoros would be nice on these too!
Wonder if they would be too bright on what is already an incredibly bright uke?
when my voice can match the richness of this uku. I will get it.... :)
That is one if the best sounding if not the best I have ever heard.and your pretty good too,But I doubt that I would pay that much for it unless I made my living by playing it.
Ditto - a big ticket price indeed.
Sir, great review... sadly, this Ukulele is just a bit out of my price range :) On a side note, what is the name of the last song that you were playing near the end of this video?
Wow! I want one!
Tell me about it Rich!
Love it
WANT!!!
Me too!
Wow the sound! Amazing!
Certainly is!
Intense UAS for this sweetie thang.
Any chance they'd let you review their new tenor model? Soon?
Possibly - but don't think it would be soon - have about an 8 week backlog on reviews even if one arrived tomorrow!
What are the songs you use for sound demo? I'm keen to learn your finger-picking go-to.
ruclips.net/video/rkk9CXQ1AZU/видео.html
that is too damn cool.
Skeptical then 1st strum..... Wow!!!!
Yeah - they certainly have that effect. Mad looks, sublime sound
Just fell in love ✨ it’s beautiful and it’s vegan! 🤪 thanks for video! I should stop watching your canal otherwise I’ll go broke 🙈❤️
Sorry!
Jesus. I'd love to have one, but can't justify buying one of these as i'm a super beginner (playing guitar for 14 years now, but not uke).
Definitely upper end price point.
Can you hear a lot of sound from the headstock hole?
It's very subtle but you can hear it - it's really just the treble side of the sound
What is a good low g string that is not wound?
Same as my answer on other video
Hello !
Doe's it exist in tenor scale ?
No. The Clara is concert only. Blackbird do make a differently shaped tenor out of the same material though - called the Farallon - review here - www.gotaukulele.com/2018/06/blackbird-farallon-ekoa-tenor-ukulele.html
what are the song you are playing and where can i get there chords\tab ?
Hope this helps!
ruclips.net/video/rkk9CXQ1AZU/видео.html
It does, thanks !
What do you think about low G uke's?
I like both low and high G. I often swap between them
thirteen bills for a uke is fucking obscene.
Surely it depends on your circumstances. This is far from the most expensive ukulele around. How about $4,000 for a Ko'Olau Spruce Tenor? $3,500 for a Mike DaSilva.. I could go on... But the idea that ukuleles are cheap toys is just a massive misconcepton perpetuated by the media.
But to add to that - it's actually a pretty standard price for an instrument from a brand like Kamaka, Kanile'a - essentially a pro level instrument
