The Five precepts or five rules of training is the most important system of morality for Buddhist lay people. They constitute the basic code of ethics to be respected by lay followers of Buddhism. The precepts are commitments to abstain from killing living beings, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying and intoxication.
14:00 the meaning of five Buddha statues is from the tale of Buddha and his prophecy of the next Buddha This tale began with, throughout human race history, now we live in the latest 29 Kalpa periods (Kalpa in english called "Aeon"). In this latest 29 Kalpa period, there are five Buddhas who would be born, found the enlightenment and became the Lord Buddha. The current Buddha in our human race history was the forth Buddha named Gotama who once was a prince in Shakya clan (a northern India kingdom) before becoming the Buddha. Before passing away to final Nirvana, he gave the prophecy about the last Buddha in our 29 Kalpa periods. He told his disciples that in the future (might be the next million years from now on) there will be the next Buddha who will be born and become the fifth Buddha and his name is Metteyya or Maitreya (in Sanskrit), his height will be 40 meters tall (which is the tallest Buddha of these five Buddhas) and his lifetime will be 80,000 years old (our current Buddha was only 80 years). This is the reason why the fifth Buddha statue was built in the biggest size and wearing the golden high crown on top (in Thai called Chada) means he will be the next Buddha. The meaning of the golden armband on the third Buddha means "The Middle Way Practice", it is the key every Buddha used to find the enlightenment. The gold color represents the most valuable thing we wants, for buddhists is to escape a cycle of suffering and rebirth (attaining Nirvana). Hence, the third statue represents to being in the middle ,not too much and not too little (the third one is in the middle of five statues). When you combine these two meanings it means "To achieve the release from the round of phenomenal existence with its inherent suffering (The endless cycle of reincarnation), you have to hold to the Middle Way principles."
Moments like this when words like Epic, Iconic, Amazing is not sufficient. Don't think we really have adequate words to describe this artistic expression 🙏
Honestly, Paddy, your videos become better and better every week. You really seem to have found your personal tone lately, and it's beautiful. I also really appreciated that you took some time to share some in-depth information about that incredible temple! It made the video even more enjoyable and added another level of professionalism. The five Buddha statue represents the five different Buddhas that will appear in our current aeon, according to Buddhist cosmology. Four of them have already appeared, and the one we know as the historical Buddha was number four. The longer ago they lived on Earth the smaller they are in the statue. The fifth one is currently a _bodhisattva_ that's waiting in the _Tusita_ heaven (or _Tushita_ in Sanskrit) for the right time to be reborn one final time on Earth to become an enlightened being. His name is Metteyya (or _Maitreya_ in Sanskrit) and in the statue he's depicted with the intricate crown that _devas_ (heavenly beings) have in Buddhist art, rather than as a Buddha. That's because he is currently a deva and isn't enlightened yet. The third Buddha was named Kassapa. I'm not sure why he's depicted with a golden stripe, but it could be because there's a Buddhist legend about a man who donated a golden brick for the construction of Kassapa's shrine after he passed from this Earth. For his deed the man was rewarded with a beautiful golden complexion when he was reborn. Perhaps the artist wanted to replicate the effect with this statue and add a golden detail to get beautiful bright skin in their next life? Love your videos, Paddy! Keep up the good work! 💕
I’m a teacher in Phichit province. Our school is right across from the crocodile pit. We were very excited to watch your video in class. This province is never featured online. It was cool to watch our little city featured in your videos ☺️
Beautiful, Paddy. All of this is about 30 minutes from our home, and we've been in these places many times, but your perspective and professional cinematography is wonderful.
OMG … That’s is absolutely breathtaking Let’s explore is exactly what you have brought us too . Beautiful village , Beautiful weather and yes I can see the Alps of Switzerland 🇨🇭 Good to see you are safe on those roads . The restaurant looked nice shame about the food . The Buddha, the temples and the mosaic and pagoda is truly amazing 🤩 . Yet again you are on another planet 🌎 with your vlogs mate . By next year 100,000 subscribes and get that RUclips silver plaque
Thank you, Paddy. You are inspiring my desire to copy some of your adventures. Long known that I like Thailand, but there is more to be seen and experienced than just the tourist beaches and Bangkok.
Phetchabun is really well known for thai people. This province is one of the most favourite visited place when its come to winter, not much foreign traveler come here.
One more amazing video. We love the way you describe the places. Amazing representation of Thailand. You should do it for more countries and keep the adventure going on😍
Wow wow wow. Such a beautiful location. We mist going last year, but will go next year when we go back to Thailand for a visit. Your camera work is fantastic. Great watching on the big screen tv. So clear. Winter is just starting in Canada now. Wish we could go back now, but we have to wait. Thanks for this. Waiting for the next part. Rob and Benci, Toronto 🇨🇦
Great video of one of my favorite temples in Thailand. Soooo glad you got to see it at night. It's amazing at night in a full moon. The food nearby the temple is good to eat. We've been there 3 times. Love ❤️ it
What are the 5 Buddhist values? I found this relating to the number 5. The Five Precepts Refrain from taking life. Not killing any living being. ... Refrain from taking what is not given. Not stealing from anyone. Refrain from the misuse of the senses. Not having too much sensual pleasure. ... Refrain from wrong speech. ... Refrain from intoxicants that cloud the mind.
This province is one of my fav. It is not too far from BKK and I can enjoying with so many places. Temple ,mountain, cafe, farm ,natures. Especially, in winter. I’m grade that you like the province. I can’t wait seeing you traveling to the north-east and your new video. Have a good time Paddy.
The only time Lonely Planet Thailand let me down was when I visited Petchabun in 2008. It had not one word to say about this beautiful province, not even about the Angkorean monuments in Si Thep. I hope later editions have caught on to Petchabun.
You are the star for vlogs. Stunning videography, witty comments, humoresque, lots of learning offered, and always making appetite for more. I don't think you ever want to go back to your teaching job. Plan how to continue this epic way of bringing endless joy to us. As you said, Thai are inventive in the small things as well and once you covered the big things you see, you can continue to offer the "In Thailand only" things and you will never be out of new material. I'm so much looking forward to come back to Thailand early next year and be together again with my Thai friend and help her on the farm but also do trips to enjoy life. When I see your vlogs, I miss it and Thailand feels like home to me already. I'm German, living in Ireland, but homesick for Thailand.
OMG! Your room has 100M dollar view, especially the evening light is EPIC!! Pino Latte has so many customers after covid hit the country. So happy to see the businesses just return to normal. ❤️💖
This video makes it hard to stick to my vacation plan this winter. I was planning on diving and going to the southern providence’s if February but maybe I need to sneak up to Phetchabun for a few days. Great video
