    My best friend lives abroad in Japan and has been saying what you have said and shown in this video. He switched to Digimon as have many others.
    Konami has made a lot of mistakes in both the OCG and TCG. The game is collapsing in on itself because of 25 years of power creep. Look at Tear and Kashtira - huge mistake. They can no longer push the power level any higher without making things more complicated and less interactive.
    TCG is essentially their cash cow and the community has had enough. Never thought I’d see the day. Mostly just competitive players at larger events and the rest who are interested play the master duel app.

    • @lightning2279

    I've known that many stores here in the TCG have massive problems with newer yugioh sets and thats why some of them dont sell them anymore. But that shouldnt affect selling single and graded cards. Especially because OCG does have plenty of better sets than we do, that are great products. SO I've got no clue why there are barely any in those shops you visited or why they cant restock them

And the controversial sevens anime made it even worse than it should be. I know the purpose of rush duel and sevens is to gain new fans but sevens doesn't really capture what yugioh really is since it's so different from the rest of the yugioh anime with different art style, light hearted story, and 60% slice of life which doesn't appeal to old fans

    I kinda agree about the 25th anniversary being a letdown.
    The booster box reprints in the tcg have modern card stock. That on its own ruined it. Also the fact that even the legendary collection 01 reprint also just has modern card stock...
    Im glad that i still have some original legendary collection 01 sealed. At least they have simulated vintage card stock. Aside from that well....
    My all time favourite card which is red eyes got a very nice 25th anniversary reprint with the original art work. I will probably fully stick to OCG collecting after this year tho. And also just safe some money to buy some holy grails. :)

    The moment that they stop making anime for the main format. I already knew it's going down hill. The reason why yugioh is so popular before is because of the anime. They should slow down making new archetypes and focus on making more support for older archetypes. They should also introduce a alter format for modern yugioh.

    Konami is making quite a lot of stupid decisions as of late but I don't think that means yugioh is going to die, it's a bit too big of an IP to go down because of slower sales, Pokemon had something like this going in 2017 and other times as well, no worries.
    I think this is a chance to get cards at lower prices actually haha.

    • @HunterStiles651
      @HunterStiles651 11 месяцев назад +2

      Yugioh isn't going to die anytime soon, but if they keep this up it *might* die in like 10 years. If the last few years have taught us anything it's that "Too Big To Fail" is a myth in business. It's just a question of how long you can afford to keep hemorrhaging money before you go bankrupt.

    • @RanmyakuJouten
      @RanmyakuJouten 11 месяцев назад

      I disagree, I think Yugi is very capable of dying sooner than later. Pokemon as you used in your example didn't have to deal with One Piece being in the market.
      Konami has been continuously making terrible business decisions. Not only that but Yugi has the worst prize support out of all the major card games and is treated the worse by it's parent company out of the big 3.
      Konami can no longer depend on blind loyalty when prize support for almost every card game is better, better coverage and quality of coverage for the big 3 and better product even if just barely for the big 3.
      And honestly Konami deserves to go down hill, it's the only way they'll do better.

    As a fellow yugituber, can I say that this content is some of the best I have seen in a while. I love that we are getting vlogs from not just Japan but Akihabara and being able to see all this is great.
    I can speak for America(NA) at least for why yugioh is dropping. Sets have been awful lately, too many sets that are not good instead of a few good ones. Because so many sets are dropping, prices are lower and stores getting these boxes are not selling product. If card shops are losing money constantly and quickly from yugioh it will be cut, since they can't take a break from yugioh. Reason being is that if they skip a bad set, distributors will give them less product of a more in demand set later on. With constant L's on sets coming out its hard to put as much money for yugioh.
    Konami has also strained their relationship with collectors, reprinting starlights as quarter centuries, reprinting higher rarity etc. As a long time collector, I can't trust starlights much, it feels like less high rarity is safe to grab since it won't retain a good portion of what its worth. These are two big reasons for North America YGO product is not doing hot, we have had stores stop yugioh and see success in every other card game, with one piece and lorcana stepping to the plate did not help either. I can confidently say the YGO to one piece pipeline is real lol.

    i will never understand the obsession with doomongering from youtubers, for anyone actually interested in the situation, yugioh is still the second most popular card game in japan, konami had its most profitable years last year and this one, honestly if people are this dissatisfied with a product why not just play something else, this whole waiting for it to die seems like a waste of time

    • @kenja0685
      @kenja0685 11 месяцев назад

      A huge percentage of card shops are discontinuing carrying the product later this year because they are losing money per box sold.
      The market is oversaturated with sets that have negative profit margin, lose value only a week after release, not good enough odds to pull the good cards out of the pack, and new sets cycling in and out faster than the budget of its playerbase can sustain, thus making its players not investing.
      Over the last 7 years, even the shops near me have reduced Yugioh product (their primary market) and increased Pokemon product to pivot into.
      Yugioh is the second most popular card game currently because the gap was pretty wide. But if no one is carrying the product anymore then how much longer until it drops from that spot?
      The 25th Anniversary set is the last set a lot of places are going to carry due to its projected sales and interest levels being relatively high. But after that point, the game loses its distributors in mass.
      Revisit this post in Q1 2024 and we'll see where it stands. If it grew, stayed roughly the same, or if it dropped rapidly.

    The TCG community has been tackling the issue the game has no future. OCG wise I wouldnt be surprised if it comes down to:
    --People trying One Piece and other games and switching to them. (i switched to magic)
    --The horrible management of the events**
    **there is little incentive to try and sign up for anything since every big event has first a lottery. Why try to be good at the game or buy good cards if you cant rven sign up for the big events?. As for day to day there is no price pool whatsoever or events are just overall managed horribly in comparisson to other TCGs. For instance, magic has judges in several daily events while most of OCG are judge-less.
    Lastly, the game in OCG is focused completely on NOT interacting with the opponent. One Piece, Magic, Digimon ,etc all are interactive games which I assume also makes people switch to them.

      No offense, but no one's looking at Magic the Gathering right now and saying "Yes. That's a fun and balanced card game that's likely to be around in five years." MTG is currently standing on the precipice of oblivion trying everything and the kitchen sink to keep what's left of its player base from leaving, whether it be implementing EOMM on Arena, extending Standard to three years, or excessive crossover sets (which, side note, is *always* the last-ditch attempt of a dying card game to maintain relevance).

    Let's be honest, Yugi/Atem build the whole tcg series, the game was really good back in the day (not talking about goat format which still there was a variety of strategies) despite the fact i got older the game is unrecognisable according to my opinion, Gx and other series were ok, but Konami what does is to reprint childhood cards and create a variety of formats.. which for me is a desperate move to keep the audience... i stopped playing advanced format not because i can't or I don't understand the Link, pendulum etc. But because the game lost the whole interest for me .. another major problem is that the community hasn't any new players... and despite the variety of decks it's sad to not see new people come to play, not to mention scam prices from vendors (that's something typical in all tcgs), now I'm a collector, and i play Digimon, and it works for me perfectly
