Hey man, really appreciate you and the other C5 content creators as these vehicles have come way down in price and has allowed younger guys and gals to get into these capable vehicles. There certainty is a lot of info on these cars, but not presented in any modern form, except for what you guys are doing, so thanks a bunch.
Thanks a lot, that really means a lot to me because I put a lot of effort in these videos and I feel like sharing my experiences can be helpful. You really should thank Chevrolet for making the C8, it’s caused all of the other ones to come down in price big time and most of them are well taken care of. The C-5 is such a great performance bargain!
@@LowBoostFilms I don't think I'm in the best position to recommend what to do next because what I'm interested in is not necessarily the direction your car is going in. My C5 is more of a daily driver with occasional track days maybe once every other month or so while in season. However, I REALLY appreciate the info you've given out on the track basics like the brake and steering cooler video as I've never been to a track or had a "track car" at all until the C5 so I'm really coming from 0 experience and am yearning to learn the fundamentals.
So for the most part my C5 is going to get quality of life mods like a new android auto/ apple car play stereo where I can't imagine you're going to be doing that to your track car. But when it comes to the track stuff IMO there's no such thing as a stupid video when it comes to the track car because like I said I have 0 experience and I have STUPID questions sometimes. So for me just documenting everything you do to the vette would be the way to go, even the small things deserve a mention in the next video if they don't warrant an entire video to themselves. - sorry very ramble-y
I appreciate the feedback! I actually got a cigarette lighter charger/ bluetooth fm transmitter. It uses the cars stock radio so I can listen to music via Bluetooth. It works really well but does not work well to talk on the phone. For music it’s great.
The 3 things I did to my C5 that solved the overheating problem. The front air dam. If you don't have one, get one. Super important for getting airflow into the radiator. The second thing I did was upgrade the radiator with a Dewitts. The last thing I did was tune the fans to come on earlier. That's it's. Didn't need to cut up my bumper. Stays super cool. I track it regularly. Never overheats.
That’s cool. I’m doing it to my c5. Thanks for the encouragement. I’m changing it a little by having the fog lights opened and going straight into my maf intake and using your idea opening up the shroud and letting the air cool of the radiator. Good job.
That is very cool. I have made my own with the original filler piece. Left the corvette name in the center and same stainless screen from Home Depot. Than painted it flat black. Looks tuff and works great. I have a little different idea for incoming air. Large plastic hose to preciously put air not to interfere with natural flow. Thank you and great job!! Hands!
Great Video - I Love my C5 and have gone to extremes with her and her cooling problems. Swapped out the hood, radiator (4 row Sierra trk rad), fans, water pump and contemplating what you've done. I live in Western AZ and it gets freaking hot here. Matter of fact, on just about any day, one of the Big 3 are testing vehicles on the mountains. ( 21 miles of a 6% uphill grade.) So I'll try anything to run a little cooler. ( 235°F is normal operating temp according to GM.)
This did help a little bit, but with a combination of this and my DeWitts radiator, even on track in 90° temperatures. I’ve never seen anything above 225°.
Took a long, hard look underneath and through the license plate opening. With the BBK Cold Air intake and air filter, either I make an air box and cut up my shroud or make an oval shaped duct from some abs plastic I bought on Amazon. Hmmm. I'll let you know.
Great video and I am debating doing this to my C5 since I experience the mentioned high temperatures when not continuously moving at moderate speeds. Love the way it looks also!
I did the throttle body bypass mod, cut out only the bumper (nothing underneath like you did), and changed the thermostat to a 170 degree and I never go over 178 on the highway no matter the temp. around town and city driving it still gets up there, but it takes longer before hitting higher temps. I'm thinking of just upgrading my electric fans and hooking them up to a switch so I can turn them on at a lower temp because stock comes on at like 220. I sure if I do that my temps will never go over 210 even in heavy city driving.
Great video! Only info I could find on what to expect behind the bumper if I decide to cut it. I have a procharged z06 that sees oil temps touch 250 in weather above 105 here in Vegas even with normal driving. I def would like to get more airflow.
Did you put like.a 180 degree thermostat in? They also make a kit you can install that turns your fans on full time via a remote..would try these two things before hacking my car up.😮
This is exactly what I am going to do next... I am in NJ and front plate is required 😑 Just got an ECS supercharger kit installed and this will open up right over the intercooler. . I also want to open up the fog light areas too.
@@LowBoostFilms great to know. I've only drilled into my car, not cut into. Kind of makes me nervous lol. My husband wants to do it but if anyone is going to cut into my car, it's going to be me
thanks for the diy, im thinking of drilling lots of tiny holes instead of cutting and screening...have you tracked the car since? what oil temp changes did you notice?
This was to help the coolant and power steering temps, but there was an improvement, however at the track after hard lap after hard lap, they temps still climbed, but not as quickly
@@LowBoostFilms i track my 02zo6 at cota and get to 250 oil temp pretty fast. i installed an oil cooler kit from DRM and it helped some. The oil cooler (a 19row setrab) is installed where you have the power steering cooler. i'm going to add a second setrab and add the matching puller fans, . I'm also installing some vents in the hood, unless you vent the heat out, it just builds up. You should be a bit concerned about the trans as the stock trans has plastic shift pads which can melt. Make a trans cooler a priority, I lost my original m12 to heat and downshifting (c5 trans dont like it). I brake deep now and select a gear instead of downshifting to stay in the power band. Good luck.
One other thing, if you remove all that stuff for track perf, cut all that plastic, dont go over 130 or so, you have screwed with aero severely. Great for autox or drag strip but dont do top speed runs! 140+ and you will take flight lol.
@@LowBoostFilms nice! Best way to deal with the increased airflow is venting the hood, like the c5r. You cant put enough splitters on the front to overcome the hood becoming a parachute with all that air coming in. Must vent it out! Post a vid of the aero you go with!
Just cut all that plastic out. The z06 doesnt even have anything behind the 2 vents. Only downside is if it rains you are allowing water in but you still should be fine. Cut all that plastic shit out, thats what i did, all of it.
Even with the license plate on it is still an improvement from what it was with the larger air channel and the cut outs on either side of the plate.

Just started watching ur vids . Awesome stuff with the c5. I have a c5z and want to get my toes wet on track next spring.

Nice! It was fine around town for me it was on track that it got HOT HOT
That’s what I was saying. Bro was doing crazy mods for no reason. 😂
Hi Your DIY ways worked out well the end result looks fantastic Hope it works out for you
Thank you! It definitely helped a little bit but I still need to upgrade the radiator

I didn’t, but this worked a little. I’ve ultimately upgraded the radiator. But I now have my power steering cooler in this location.
Hey, not too bad for functionality with low cost materials! Planning on doing the same to my sons C5 here in the Vegas desert!
Nice!!! It’ll definitely help
How is it held in place?
I zip tied the mesh to the plate holder, then screwed the mesh onto the car with the license plate screws
Damn right dude, common man's engineering done alright!
That’s how to get it done!
Where do i get that plastic cover that you put the mesh in
The link is in the description
Thanks
Looks great 👍 Thanks for the vid beyond the mod. Appreciate it!!
No problem, I couldn’t find another one anywhere so I figured it would be helpful!
I like how it looks!
Thanks! It works good too!
Looks awesome dude, did you get help with the lowering the temperature. What was it before and what is it now? Thanks in advance.
It helped a little bit. I maybe got an extra lap out of it before it got too hot. I upgraded the radiator recently now it’s great!
Did you upgrade the radiator yet?
This winter I will
Let us know what grind on the cam is...😊

use rare earth magnets to attach your license plate to the expanded metal screen. Quick on quick off

Why didn't you make a chevy emblem out of the hole you cut

Also your missing the bumper air vents from the bottom heard that causing overheating issues
It can, I still have the air dam in place below. Make sure you have it on

250 degree coolant temps when I’m on track would beg to differ. It’s well known they needs cooling upgrades for track use.

Lol really
It really works
