You definitely do not talk too much! Appreciate all your knowledge and sharing that with the rest of us. It is interesting to me the difference in our locations! Your year this year is like what I had last year. Almost no dearth. This year we had a horrible spring with rain all through June, and then no rain the rest of the year. We literally have had no rain since June. Which is similar to your year last year. Crazy flip flop. LoL!!! That’s beekeeping though. Thanks again for all you do! 🐝😎
Mine are rocking strong single splits growing into doubles rapidly here in NWGA. I am just starting and trying to learn and "grow with the bees" to be sustainable at it. I have grown from one to 3 strong colonies this year making my own queens. I also believe in just letting the bees have whatever they can pack in for winter... less work for me LOL.
Kamon Reynolds - Tennessee's Bees Thank you for the encouragement. Sometimes I feel like information overload and I don’t know if I’m doing it right. I told my husband last night, I can’t be so hard on myself if I lose bees in the spring because I did something wrong now. Time, experience, patience and a little help from God will help me through learning how to manage them. Also, excellent resources like your videos and several others on RUclips. Thank you again, Lorie 😁
I’m glad we got a little video, even if Laurel wasn’t able to get you in front of the camera like we get used to. Really thankful for your work to get this information out for us willing to learn from you.
Hi Kamon, how about making some vidoes on how to go from backyard beekeeping to small commercial outfit. How to start selling nucs/queens and setting up the yard and so on.
Thank you for spending your time sharing. I am in Western Australia and am new to bee keeping and am getting my 1st bees in October (our spring). Your information is invaluable and presented with such humility and honesty. Thanks Phil
I watch your videos faithfully. Continue to do what you do. You and Laurel rock. I'm north west of you, in Tn. The Asters are just starting to bloom. Love it!
Kamon, I’ll tell you what. I have 2 of those apimaye hives. They are awesome! It winters well, the bees build them out really well, and they seem to be more gentle than my other hives. Not to mention that those 2 hives are my biggest honey producers. The airflow through them works excellent, and boy do they winter well. It can get to minus 20 something here in Idaho, not a problem. I’ve got some polystyrene hives from superior bee supply in Ohio. Put a busting at the seams nuc box into it about 2 months ago. It seems to be doing well. I will see how it winters. I have 14 colonies but not all are mature yet, 4 are young and still getting established. Hoping to hit 30-40 colonies next year. Thanks for your videos, we all appreciate them. P.S. Watch that Jimmy character, I’m sure he’s getting into something. 😆🤣😜
Nice flow here in Springfield, IL. We have been feeding and treating with Apivar, so the bees will now be able to keep this flow to themselves. Thanks for the great vids!
I purchased some of the Apimae bottom boards and they work really well and they keep out the hornets really well. It took them a couple days to get used to it but what a well thought out design. When I had chickens I had a light on a timer that came on in the mornings around 5:00AM to fake them out to keep them laying all winter. Thanks for the video!!!!
I have not noticed a difference in the mites and beetles. I love using them with so many options. They can be a double nuc with more boxes to be added. When combining hives they have a vent in the divider so you can just pull it after a couple days. There is many more but that is my favorite options to them.
Kamon & Laurel, I certainly hope that you have a record fall flow. Maybe you can make up from the decrease in you Spring harvest by not having to feed your bees this winter. I really haven’t noticed an increase with my few hives but both locations are in residential areas where plants are blooming all summer. Thanks for the video and Laurel’s fine camera skills.
@@kamonreynolds I'm looking forward to the Apimaye video, maybe you can get more American beekeepers to realize that insulation is important in hot weather too, not just in cold areas. 😜
Our fall flow was going way above average then 4 days of rain and low 60s for a high shut it down .. Sun returned today not sure what will happen now .. Bees were hauling chicory and goldenrod pollen today .just loads . I put alot work into my bees getting them built up for the fall flow still hopeful it pays off ..
Ill be surprised if i loose one colony .. Bees have never been so healthy in my boxes .. Should really take off come spring ... Doing all honey next year no nuc selling only growing the operation .. Just going to have fun not spend all summer rebuilding the operation after selling off the best part ..
Hi Kamon, you have mentioned a few times that your home yard is very poor compared to other yards...if that was my situation I would use it as a queen mating yard orcoverwintering yard only for convenience and get all those colonies out to better flow areas...my home yard is not my best yard either and I keep bees here for the poplar and willow then move them to other yards for Dandelion and Carraganna then on to other areas for the main honey flow. I keep a few nucs here for the summer for convenience and attention but my honey production units are always put in the best areas possible. I would suggest going to four hive Texas pallets so you can move bees in quantity very quickly to adapt to flow conditions..if you had those hives on Texas pallets you could have moved all those hives to a better flow area to capitalize on the best flow possible...jmho...take care.
I got a lot of bees going in and out. I treated for mites and 2 weeks later my hive got alive. I got hives with 3 boxes and my plan was to reduce them, but the colonies are so strong that I can not do this. They are capping honey as we speak. I got the tall golden rod at my driveway and the bees will not touch it. I had a couple of hives that I had to feed a bit of sugar syrup last week for 2 days, but all hives are bringing in pollen in a rush and a lot of bees are rushing in and out like a spring flow is going on.
I think I was the first ro watch this one haha. Looking forward to the apimaye update, I just split mine. I was just noticing this morning a variety of pollen colors coming in. I was thinking about mixing up some syrup for them. I'm in Mesa AZ
Kamon, are you concerned that the stronger hives will rob the syrup fed to the splits in the same yard? I have 9 hives, 4 are splits and I wondered if that would be a problem for the splits being close to the stonger hives with supers still on them. I don't want Honey Bee Healthy in my supers :)
I have another request regarding apimaye. Will a Oc Acid wand work in those hives or is it blocked off. Perhaps you can go in from the rear where the trays slide in and out?
Love your videos new to bee keeping just 1 hive question? If the bees are bringing in pollen does that mean they are on a nectar flow just trying to learn. Thanks for reading
I should say it like this, will your bees pack out a super to overwinter on with the fall flow? I have acres of goldenrod, evening primrose and horseweed all around me and was hoping that they would pack in enough honey for winter. Thanks!!
@@baghdaddy202003 in a godd fall flow a "healthy" hive with plenty of forager bees will put enough away to over winter. This should be around 60-70 lbs
Are you still feeding with frame feeders or going to use bucket feeders like Ian? Im thinking about going with lids like yours and bucket feeders, still not sure if I'll like it not being vented much.
Got several hives and they are bearding. In NE Missouri and afraid that they maybe about to swarm. What is the best way to stop them this time of year?
If one colony is stronger than the other, they may rob from the the weaker. You can make them equal strong by moving uncapped brood and nurse bees to a weaker hive. Robbing will be lower if all hives are of equal strength. Bees usually do not attack each other, only if a robber bee is trying to enter another hive , then the mother colony will defend their hive.

Will they draw new comb at this point, or need to have drawn comb for them to fill?
They can draw comb if they are strong. Better to have combs this time of the year though.
