I am a regular listener of Haviv on Dan Senor’s and regularly read his articles in the TOI. His ability to articulate the Israeli point of view is truly remarkable. He is a national treasure.
Haviv Rettig has a knack to explain the small details and the big issues of the relationships, thinking, and acts of Israel and it neighbors that help me to understand better the complicated and totally different world he lives in versus the America I live in. Thank you Haviv.
Has he discussed Israel's defeats in Lebanon, or is that too much of a sore spot?

I’m Arab and I love Haviv. My husband loves him too. Neither of us are Jewish.

I have to say, as an Arab, I learn so much about Arabs from Haviv!! Crazy, right?? But he sees the nuance and layers of things that most people do not.
I first came across his stuff when Bari Weiss interviewed him on the free press and was blown away.
He’s completely right - the pro-Pali group has horrified me. How can they be in support the Gazans while supporting Hamas. A literal contradiction. It just shows they don’t actually care about Gazans. They just hate Jewish people.
My husband saw a lecture of Haviv’s online that he ended talking about MLK and that sealed the deal - he was a Haviv fan.
Haviv is the antidote for Edward Said, who I blame for intellectualizing terrorist rhetoric and somehow passing it off as academic.

But it doesn't mean that he's right about everything nor that he takes the right conclusions from what's happening.
Still, I prefer 1000 times have him as an interlocutor than the lunatics at the head of Israel right now
I am a Bahai, and our universal house of justice is in Haifa.
I know the history of where Bahais acquired land in the early 30s in anticipation of the Jews returning to the promised land and fulfilling that prophecy.
The land the Bahais owned were sold back to the Israelis,and we just needed a bit for our temples,and Israeli goverment and people treated every Bahai very well, and we also pray that this conflict ends.
We Bahais have also been displaced in their own home country due the current regime in Iran, which started in the 70s.
Though I am not Iranian,Malaysian actually- multi racial,multi religious- our mantra- peace first and rest falls into place.
My uncle got the Israeli cricket team to play un Malaysia muslim majority country.

I have other Arab friends (very few left after Oct 7 because I’m pro Israel) but, the ones I do I have left … I managed to flip them and change their mind by sending them Haviv’s talks. Alllllll the talking I did - did nothing. Haviv has a way with story that hits the soul!!

The passionate support of Hamas among protesting college students is frightful.Reminds me of the old socialists and communists who it was impossible to convince of anything.
I've heard it explained a few times now from Iranians who know their history how the indoctrination on college campuses now is looking exactly how it was leading up to the Cultural Revolution (or De-volution rather) in 1979, where the extremists (Islamists) cozied up to the young, idealistic leftists and the working class, aiming their anti-royalist/anti-establishment propaganda at them, and when they got in power, it was those useful idiots essentially who the regime turned against and were the first to imprison and murder.
Convincing the young to be your foot soldiers is really where it's at for authoritarian regimes - you can bank on their naivety, their need to be part of a larger group/crowd/movement for a sense of belonging and to feel the endorphin rush of feeling powerful in the world perhaps for the first time, most know two-fifths of stuff all about history and are happy to suffice with slick soundbites on social media, and they're more likely to have free time, being childless and unencumbered with the sorts of responsibilities that zap your energy and make us centred on encouraging the stability of our communities rather than contributing to chaos, upheaval, and actual fighting. So many reasons for this cynical movement we're seeing repeated now.

If any of the hostages were still alive (or at least not damaged beyond recognition), Hamas would have made some sort of deal (I use the word deal, advisedly). That there has been no deal, tells me that Hamas cannot return any hostages. Israel seems to have no choice but to enter Rahah and dismantle Hamas's military capability.

It is so sad that propagandists such as Norman Finkelstein receive all the attention. There are so many historians, journalists and analysts like Haviv Rettig Gur who provide a more honest and objective presentation of the events.
We need this, but it would have more weight if he had not been a Jewish Israeli or an American. I don't know why people automatically assume it is false.

Uhm, Qatar and Lebanon who host them in fancy hotels when they could extradite the murderous SOBs, and provide millions to UNWRA every year as well as billions to the US universities whose faculty allow and encourage the indoctrination of students (Qatar that is). They are terra wrists mate, they murder and torture anyone whom they suspect might have dissenting thoughts against them. Seeing bodies dragged through the streets or hanging in the public square you pass to shop for food probably has a pretty strong effect on the local population not challenging them, don't you think?
