  • One of the first things I did when I discovered Shotcut is try to make cinematic travel videos. I love the awesome transitions the other editors can do, and I looked for ways to replicate it on Shotcut. I love the way anamorphic lenses look on cinematic videos and thought I can use them as an effect to transition from one anamorphic shot to another.
Let me know if there's something specific you want to learn about Shotcut Transitions in the comments and I'll make a tutorial video. Hopefully, I can help you learn Shotcut.
I hope this tip video inspires you to go play around on Shotcut and make awesome videos!

Nice ! I also tried with 2 points located not so near the center and at different position for each clip.
By the way, a quick tip to make perfect circular (or square) masks : Since the parameters are in percent, I use the aspect ratio of the video as a reference. In a 16:9 video, 16% (H) by 9 % (W) will get you a perfect circle. For a bigger shape : 32% by 18%, 64% by 36% etc... Smaller shape : 8% by 4,5% etc...

    Many thanks, Ben.
As I said in the comment section to another of your Shotcut videos, I really like the way you think - i.e., the way you achieve the result you want in Shotcut.
I think that a similar (but not exactly the same) result here could have been achieved by changing the Speed of the shrinking circle/light at the end of the video effect, but your choice to use the Opacity filter was a very intelligent, effective, and inspired choice to achieve the kind of aesthetically satisfying result that you present.
Your videos are - for me - hands down the most useful on RUclips for Shotcut (but I was right about what I said about the White Balance in your colour grading video! Having said that, you are streets ahead of anyone else in realizing the issues involved in colour grading, and how to set a baseline for adjusting the colour).
All of your videos should be on the Official Shotcut website.
    Thanks again.

I appreciate your comments. Shotcut is still very early stage and there are many mavericks who are trying to figure out the best ways to achieve effects that come natively on other editors. Naturally, it's not fully flushed out and there are many ways to achieve similar effects. It all comes down to preference.

@@BenEspanto Yes, but now i learn step by step and it grows like a tree of questions and puzzles to be solved. I am working on my own films with a specific story, i.e. strength exercises, some ideas are not needed at all, some I repeat very often until I come to the conclusion that this is not the way. Probably all of us. I am looking for specific solutions to ideas in my head. I also learn the basics of filming and when I get funds for the equipment, it will be a professional job. However, your videos are very helpful, some of the best I have come across on RUclips so far

    Ben,
I think this one is really cool, it’s amazing how you did this.. and is something I hope to learn myself. It seems like a lotta work tho.. and right now I need more practice doing the basics in Shotcut .. but I wanted to share a site with you .. search for Flying Fish TV. And you’ll see several videos I’m sure that as a fisherman yourself you’ll probably appreciate.. I also grew up there in Hawaii and fished and surfed these exact same waters. Lemme know what you think of his YT vids .. take care and thanks again for these great tutorials .. JimS

@@BenEspanto Yes, I know you do.. that's why I thought you'd appreciate Flying Fish TV.. the fishing and vlog he's doing takes an amazing level of skill, very expensive equipment and a lot of talent. Getting caught and capsized out there a mile or so out in heavy winds would be bad too.

Hi Ben, I just found your channel and I'm enjoying your Shotcut tutorials. I just want your readers to understand that Exports utilizing the x264 codec using 75% Quality (CRF=13) is not necessary (overkill). CRF-17 is considered visually lossless, while anything less is considered 'placebo' with wasted file size, and with CRF=0 being fully lossless. Recommended CRF (Constant Rate Factor) varies inversely with video resolution, so the default CRF=23 is considered sufficient for general distribution of 4K UHD, while CRF=21 is the sweat spot for 1080p FHD. Perhaps reference this link ( slhck.info/video/2017/02/24/crf-guide.html ) but "sane values" should be at least CRF=18 even for RUclips uploads.

Then keep playing at 2x speed. This is meant for beginners
