  • A prolific quarterback who played for some bad Packers teams, but he put some good numbers along with the trio of James Lofton, John Jefferson, and Paul Coffman.

In a replay of the 1985 season with Strat o Matic football.. I had the unenviable task of playing Green Bay against the undefeated Bears. Using Middleton early to establish the run(125 yards against the Bear defense) Then, once the Bears began to play the run. I unleashed Lynn Dickey using a mix of flat passes with bombs 21/28 347 yards. Getting the lead and forcing the Bears to throw. I won 28-7 The only Bears loss that season.

1981-85 he was probably one of the 5 best passers in football and bombed it deep better than anyone.

I grew up watching him. it's incredible to me that he isn't more well-known. But, and this is true, even when he was lighting up the league, he wasn't given any press. The announcers would give him a bit of his due, but he became invisible again after the game.
That was a downtime for the Pack. The NFL thought the Packers best days were behind them and that the team would move. They kept playing that song, "Memories," as they would do segments on the Pack.
Little did they know. Little did any of us know.
    Go Pack.

@@lukegavin124 Your comment made me smile. It can always happen, but I think our small town pride and attitude saves us from the filthy greed the bigger cities have. They change cities more and more. It’s as if they put theirselves up for auction. If I were in those cities, I don’t believe I would care for my team as we do in Wisconsin.

Those teams were almost built and then they pulled the rug out from them and fired Starr and ended things before they got better. If any of those teams had a top 15 defense they could have won a Super bowl. However they had the worst defenses in the League consistently and never gave their team much of a chance other than turbo shootouts where Dickey would usually end things by throwing a costly interception. There was hope with Dickey and these Packers. They had a Super Bowl level passing game . A very up and down running game. A great kicker and lots of injuries that killed them at the worst possible times.

@@jesusoftheapes True enough. Terrible defense, awful offensive line with not much of a running game and Starr being somewhat overwhelmed the first few years left us scrambling most of the time just to win. Sad, but true. Dickey was a star whose light was never allowed to truly shine.

OC Bob Schnelker said that Lofton was the best football player he ever coached. He said Dickey threw the best long pass he ever saw.

One of the worst underrated QBs of his era. Imagine if the Packers had a Playoff Calibur team around him, he would have been remember more fondly outside of Green Bay

69-year-old Packer fan here. You can make anybody look like a Hall of Famer if you only show highlights. But I remember watching those teams. Geez, they were almost unstoppable. Almost. If they had had more defense. But that offense, WOW! Really good at EVERY skill position. The line was not great, but okay. And Dickey was so great then.....

Most of all the coolest highlights of the early 80s were the bombs Lynn Dickey was tossing to JL, JJ & PC and that was airing on Boston market tv where the Patriots were terrible and barely made it on tv half the season before Kraft bought them

The best fan sign I’ve ever seen was during a packers bears game in chicago. It said - “you might beat our packers but please don’t lick our dickey”

Under Lynn Dickey, the Packers had the best .500 team in the NFL. I didn't like it when Lofton left the team.

Lynn Dickey was Bl essed to have James Lofton #80 starting in 1978 and One of the Biggest Fails of Talent ever my opinion John Jefferson #83 in 1981 under Dickey. I thought JJ WAS going to be one of the greatest Recievers of all time. Anyways side note. But I appreciate this video CUZZ I get Glimpses of great memories of the particular time of these guys careers. Thnx
