Man, if we had one thing to send to the future 1,000,000 years later, we better send that Jurassic Park blue ray DVD.
Better include a BR Player ...and a TV.
Or the og vhs tape
This is my favorite movie and the reason I became a screenwriter. The first time I saw it, I was 3. I’ve seen the movie hundreds of times, I’ve read the book 6 times, and I’m actually walking down the aisle to the Jurassic Park theme at my wedding on April 30th. Thank you for this awesome analysis!
When you have children don't forget that what Muldoon said about the velociraptors also very accurately describes toddlers. "They never attack the same place twice. They were testing the fences for weaknesses systematically. They remember."
Get your partner to exclaim "they're moving in herds. They do move in herds" as the party walks down the aisle
I know your wedding has passed, but legit a friend of mine just told me to walk into my future wedding to the JP theme music right after I saw your comment.
I told her yes absolutely, and instead of kissing when someone clank’s the champagne glass, we’ll start a trend where we all hold our spoons and shake like we’re Alex scared there’s a raptor entering the building.
Jurassic park was the first "adult" movie I watched when I was young. Captured my imagination so much more than Star Wars or Indiana Jones did. At one point I tried to recreate it with toys lol. As much as I wish I still had that video, I probably wouldn't be able to get past the opening part where the caged dino eats that guy.
I have so many good memories making movies with my toy dinosaurs. I never tried to recreate the whole movie but I did recreate the T Rex scene! Good memories :)
@@Josh_Keefe Rewatching this movie is like being a little kid again. Can’t wait for Dominion!
What I like about Jurassic Park is that even if the dinosaurs are represented as animals, they can also represent the themes of the story, The Brachiosaurus representing the beauty and magic of the mystery, the Dilophosaurus being the absolute unpredictability of how anything could go wrong at any given time, lastly Tyrannosaurus and Raptors representing the danger and mayhem when treated lightly.
Edit: credits to Red Raptor Writes btw, he's a cool ytuber
Honestly, it's because of all these things that the Jurassic World films were so disappointing. Jurassic Park is just a fantastic movie that is nearly flawless
It’s about as flawless as a movie can realistically be. Jurassic world is by no means a terrible film, but it’s competing with this behemoth in cinema that means so much to us as viewers, and I don’t believe that there will ever be a film that tops Jurassic Park, at least for me personally.
@@Trigger__Happy Couldnt have said it better myself. I think I found the reason why I looked forward to each jurassic world movie hoping it would create a similar vibe.. but none of them ever could.
I mean, I'm 42 and this movie came out when I was in high school. And the special effects still absolutely hold up.
Even now, watching Jurassic Park is magical.
It looks literally better than half of today super expensive movies, when I watch it on a big screen now, I can already see that CGI is slightly low resolution, but shadows and lightning is still better than in many modern movies which are made in front of green screen, in JP it was perfect combination of robots, practical effects and CGI.
ANOTHER video essay waxing on about why Jurassic Park is amazing? …YES PLEASE!!! I’ve loved your enneagram videos, but I’ve been missing your shorter video essays too! Great job, loved the humor, totally relate to your experience growing up, and thank you for making a video that helped me feel like I was expecting the movie again for the first time! Keep up the great work, You’re one of my top 5 favorite RUclipsrs!
This was my favorite movie as a kid, I would go over my grandfather's house every weekend and we would watch it together, I was so young that I asked every time, without fail, "do you think they are gonna make it out this time grandpa?". One of my best memories
This movie is a masterpiece. The story, visuals, score, sounds, effects, and themes are all nothing short of extraordinary. Thank you for making this video. Great take on this film! It’s my favorite film 10/10.
Oof... That homeschool reference hits home on this one.
5/5 stars for accuracy.
There’s nothing wrong with being homeschooled, or being taught and believing something that’s different than the opinion of public schools. Public schools aren’t at fault either, so long as it isn’t hurting anyone, belief can matter more than truth.
Coming up on 30 years old and still just as great as the day it came out.
You described it so perfectly, ive seen it 29 times and it’s still amazes me - incredible video!!
My dad watched Jurassic Park while I was "sleeping" in my crib. He noticed I was watching with him when I made a noise and ducked behind my blanket when the Raptor attacked Ellie. From that day on, I loved dinosaurs
I recently read the book for the first time and really enjoyed it. While being the same story from the movie, there are many small changes that make it a different and worthwhile experience. The tone is darker, some characters and their relationships are changed and more fleshed out. There are a lot more scenes that really help to flesh out the world building, which I loved.
All that to say, I also think the movie is a masterpiece but the book is equally worth your time.😊😊
if you have seen the 3 original movies and read the two books, Jurassic Park and The Lost World you end up noticing that they used some unused chapters of the books to make scenes for the third movie.
@@nicolasinvernizzi6140 That's interesting! It's been ages since I saw the third movie and I haven't gotten around to the second book, but thanks for the tip!😁
Great point about modern movies as well. There's absolutely no subtlety to modern blockbusters. It's so insulting that modern writers write dialogue as though the audience needs every last part of the plot explained in detail. Another thing to mention is that they just seem to haphazardly squeeze in unfunny humour in at every opportunity. A good plot and well written dialogue is what makes a film objectively good but somehow this has been almost completely lost when it comes to high budget blockbusters. 😔
0:45 I actually love Dinosaur.
Omg I used to do the exact same thing at the library. The only one I was allowed to watch was the sound of music.
So so soooo incredibly proud of you!!!! Guess we’ll just have to see more dinosaur exhibits in the future❤️❤️
Stop hitting on him, he has a girlfriend
@@DannySargent I just can’t help it. It’s the Tim Allen grunts that do it for me
I think this is the only movie i got many dreams about, being chased by velociraptors that is 🤣
This is one of the reasons why Jurassic Park was one of my favorite childhood movies. I was into dinosaurs as a kid and this was one of the films that got me so into dinosaurs besides the land before time and the walking with dinosaurs series. It just shows the perfect balance of wonder and terror all at once.
This is honestly the only movie in the Jurassic Park/World franchise that I genuinely enjoy and revisit. It delivers its messages concisely and delicately, while also being (for its time) quite knowledgeable about its subject matter.
I watched this movie when i was 2/half years old and o boy i was enchanted by this movie, it motivated me to study paleontology, like my hole live so this is the movie that change. Every. Thing. In. My. Life.
Knowing you have loved this movie for so long, it's wonderful to see you share it in your own special way. Excellent work!💜
Still remember seeing it in the cinema for the first time when I was 13. It was unreal, unlike anything I had seen, completely blew my mind, went to see it 6 more times after that lol. Crazy how I can still watch it today and it's still just as great.
Thank you for this lovely exposition on one of my favorite movies! (While also highlighting some salient societal topics! Well done!)
damn bruh this really needs more views, very well told and succinct story
I wasn't planning on watching a movie today but you just changed that thanks lol
the clips indirectly roasting Jurassic world are hilarious. thank you
I was so obsessed with this film when I was younger.
glad I watch this in theatres in 93' as a child get to experience it. there is one variation of the poster with the 'palm tress against the sunset' that really intrigue me as a child. kept me thinking about it for days. so mysterious
The intro for this was amazing
Ahhh tou are so right😂😂 i remember going ro the video store with my dad and looking at all kinds of vhs covers and boxes. The Jaws and Jaws 2 ones were always intriguing to me. I remember being fascinated by Brody with his arms over a cable type thing covered in seaweed (Jaws 2). Same with Jurassic Park. It made it all the more magical when i first saw them!❤❤❤
Dude love the video essays. Prince of Egypt my favorite of course
some of the better practical effects and CGI I've seen, even better than many movies today
I can't look at the Platoon DVD cover without thinking about Tropic Thunder!
Survive
@@Josh_Keefe 😂
I saw this movie when it came out. Went with my family in the theater. I was 11. I had to close my eyes multiple times, but the T-rex eating the guy off the toilet was what haunted me for weeks afterwards. Love this movie... Literally never get tired of it. The book is really good too! If only they would've stopped there instead of making the sequels...
whoa whoa whoa, your library had movies?!
Yours didn't?
love your channel man!
Damn u Josh, I loved Dinosaur as a kid 😂😭
Dinosaur was amazing
Scene setting really does change things up. I saw The Lost World Jurassic Park first when I when I was 4 because there was a VHS shelf in my sisters closet. My parents put it there for space reasons but basicly I could just go in any time and grab a movie to watch. My mother worked nights. So I would grab a VHS to watch in the moring when my mom slept because I just got a new TV in my room with a VHS player. I was probably looking for Land Before Time but stumbled on The Lost World. The movie was already part way through, just before the rex attack scene. Oddly that scene didn't scare me as a kid and I would watch The Lost World a bit before my grandparents gave me the Jurassic Park VHS to go with The Lost World one. I was always confused on the canon at the time because I didn't know The Lost World was a sequel. Aside from that the Rex scene in Jurassic Park scared me. I think it was the lack of music that made me forget I was watching a movie. The Lost World Rex scene also doenst have music but I wasn't scared because they werent hunting. They wanted the baby so it made sense to me. The JP Rex on the other hand was out for blood and that glance it gives the car after it eats the goat is what made it hard for me to sleep later that night.
Great video essay!
I loved dinosaur as a kid :( those carnos were fucking awesome.
I remember finding a crumpled paper-sleeve VHS of Jurassic Park at my grandma's house, then watching it on her small box television. The cover art was so great, but I barely saw the movie through the cracks of my hands over my eyes.
Edit: Great video by the way. I like to deride MCU films for their shallow humor, but I never really thought of it as a trend in modern movies as a whole. You've put to words what I previously only instinctively disliked in movies, and that's why I like reading movie reviews.
beautiful review, man
My first viewing of this movie was in 3D in theaters.
Somehow my brother fell a sleep and slept thru 80% of the movie
You nailed it man! Your experience and opinion on this incredible film is exactly the same as mine!
thank you for pointing out, not enough movies take the time to establish tension, atmosphere, mood etc
This is my favourite movie and my favourite book!
I didn't see Jurassic Park until I was 18, and it came out 5 years before I was born. I liked it the first time and loved it the second. It's one of my favorite movies as well. :)
One of my favourite movie all time ❤
I have to say that it’s a damn shame that some kids couldn’t grow up with this movie as a kid. I was obsessed with dinosaurs so being able to watch this blew my mind
My grandpa showed me that movie as a kid.
It may have manifested Dinosaur nightmares until my adulthood, but also made me love everything dinosaur 🤣
Wow, what a story, DAD for the rescue, amazing how we seen it entirely different 😆 my middle school took us to see it, I was 11 yrs old, it was awesome, probably the best movie experience ive had to date, the sound, visuals, it was all new as f, never seen dinosaurs like this, wow T2 independence day came close but nothing like JP
My uncle gave me this vhs tape when I was a kid. He gave it because everytime I went over I played it, and wouldnt watch anything else. I have wat hed this as a psyco kid hundreds of times.
Please keep making videos!!
Your awesome and I LOVE your enneagram videos!!!
My favorite movie 100%
I met Steven Spielberg a while ago. Pretty chill dude.
Bravo!!
The best movie ever made.
Truly is one of the greatest movies of all time
I've watched your VeggieTales video in the past and it was hilarious. I grew up with VeggieTales when I was younger as a Christian but I was wondering if you would do a video essay of Napoleon Dynamite because the movie is part of our culture and it relates to us people who understand the humor behind it. Just an idea!
Can't wait on the "Enneagram type 4 explained"!
You are a director in the making!
Almost as good as the BOOK! There is something to be said for great source material.
Much of my childhood is a blur, but I still vividly remember my parents bringing me along to the theater when this movie premiered in 93 when I was 6 years old. I was scared out of my mind anytime the T-Rex and Raptors were on screen.
Honestly I'm my opinion Jurassic Park had no real antagonist. Maybe the raptors could be seen as such.
But Hammond for me was more of a tragic figur. A man with imagination, hope, curiosity and love for these animals that tragically missjuged the risks of his actions.
My favorite movie in 1st grade can’t believe my parents let me watch it still one of the greatest movies ever made
I love the Jurassic park movies1-3. 3 was eh but I still loved it
I love that people find the same joy as me when I watch Jurassic park
Okay. But can we seriously give more credit to David Koepp for the screenplay? I doubt Spielberg could really accomplish anything without him at the helm of this movie's wheel.
WOWZA!
im now realizing your back after 2 years hello welcome back
Hello thank you
I'm probably a bit older than you, and I've never actually watched it, but I felt the same way about E.T. when I watched it as a 10 year old. It open up the magical world of cinema to me.
I don't want to cause you pain, but when my son who loved dinosaurs (born in 1992) was two years old I, his mom, sat down with him on an afternoon, in the daylight, and watched "Jurassic Park" with him on that old VHS, being there through the scary parts and explaining stuff. It's been part of his lifelong love affair with dinos and movie-making. Controversial - but I did the right thing. ;)
The terms "movie magic" is something so many cynical wannabe writers and filmmakers use often as a way to mock sentimentality and somehow diminish or undermine what Spielberg achieved in his early career, but its absence is extremely noticeable in todays surface-only movies. To me the filmmakers of today are just emulations of what they think a successful movie is suppose to be by throwing as much money as they can at the spectacle without any consideration as to why we should care, sure there are some incredible looking movies in recent years but often they leave me hollow without any desire to revisit them. I always return to Spielberg because he made me care about cinema, it didn't matter what spectacle he had in his movies what made them masterpieces was a sense of a soul in his films and he genuinely cares about them as if each movie of his was his own child I knew he was going to put everything into making them the best possible movies he could make. Jurassic Park works because if you took away the Dinosaurs its still a compelling movie about the morality of playing god in nature and you care about every human character in it. Its a common principle that the best horror movies ever made were successful because at the forefront you had characters you cared about and didn't want to see die, films of today forget this by making characters as incompetent as possible and ultimately end up making you route for the monster.
THIS ONE IS FROM 1993???
one of my fav childhood films and i was born in 2006.
I was lucky that my father liked Jurassic Park, Alien and such movies and my mom didn't care what I am watching in TV, I saw Aliens when I was like 5 or 6 in TV and I still remember it for some reason. I saw Jurassic Park for the first time probably when my father bought first DVD player in 2000 or 2001, he had to sell it later because mom was yelling at him that it was too expensive, but damage on my brain was already done by all those movies. 😀 For some reason, Alien and Jurassic Park are my 2 the most favorite movies. 😀
I’ve always said the problem with Jurassic Park as a franchise is that the first one is literally one of the finest films ever crafted, so anything that came after would have been inferior. Tile a landmark in cinema, a benchmark in filmmaking, and proof of how successful a well made piece of art can be. I love this movie, always have and always will.
Jurassic park is one of the if not the best movie ever
He's so cool
3:33 I literally died
I think what's crazy is that the book this movie is based on was originally going to be lighter than it really is, that being a very dark and violent book (I heard stuff about ripping intestines, so that's something). And then we have this movie. Considering what this movie is about and what it's based on, you would NOT like the videos comparing the creatures in this movie to what is known about dinosaurs in real life in 2022 (maybe expect the sound talk).
The memes of this movie are unsurpassed
Next review Night at the Creation Museum
The best dinosaur movie ever made!
90s kids basically just got to watch R rated movies lol. by 1999 at the age of 7 i had seen scream, anaconda, alien resurrection, terminator 2, the mummy as much as id seen any disney animated movies. my parents werent neglectful or anything these movies were marketed to kids and had toy lines with them, and we had one of those cable boxes that got ppv movie channels so thats how i watched most of them
Don’t sleep on dinosaur movie they both good
I loved this film so much but now I just can’t bring myself to watch one of the new movies anymore
i watched jurassic world in cinnimas when i was 5
You really unlocked some hidden memories from my homeschooled, dinosaur-obsessed childhood with those pictures at 1:38 and 1:40. But I can't believe you hated Dinosaur liiiiike, how could you betray me like that? ☠
Someone else who had Dinosaurs by Design! And I only hated it because I only wanted to see Jurassic Park. It most likely is a lot better than what I remember!
@@Josh_Keefe Yes! Dinosaurs by Design! More memories unlocked 😂 And I highly suggest you rewatch Dinosaur and give it a proper review! Trying not to be biased, I rewatched it not long ago and do believe its a well done film. Very underrated. Not a great stand in for Jurassic Park but still a good movie on its own haha
Commenting so that this video gets more views
3:59 😭💀
NO WAY I HAD THE EXACT SAME EXPIEREINCE WITH JURASSIC PARK!
Dude.... the Carnotaurus' in Disney's Dinosaur are fucking terrifying
I will not tolerate slander against Dinosaur !
👍👍
Dinosaurs boi!
Can we get a video on Jaws?
I developed a fondness for genuine ambers as a 4 year old kid watching this movie, lol
Dude I’m with you I don’t believe in evolution either but I still love Jurassic park it’s my favorite movie and when I saw Jurassic world dominion I cried when they showed a feathered raptor because the great scaly lizard like dinosaurs are gone those were the dinosaurs I grew up with those are the dinosaurs I believe that exist and now everybody believes in a lie and that lie is getting worse.
