As a former military deck officer we'd have over a dozen men on the bridge doing what you do by yourself, and our process involved a lot of yelling and other nonsense, it took six men to handle the anchor, the list goes on. I am impressed, while your ship is a little smaller, not by much, your main engine hp is about the same but we had auxiliary turbines (45k hp) that gave us 32 knots burning 20k liters/hour.
Captain Tristan Mortlock : With the utmost respect I do appreciate that you take the time to make these videos, and at the same time I want you to know that I among others live out our dreams vicariously through these types of videos and yours is the most enjoyable to me. That being said, I wish you would think out loud all the time , let me rephrase that - THINK OUT LOUD ( unless its unsafe to do so ) don't want to confuse the crew. As for myself you can't be detailed enough in every aspect of the operation this type of yacht, although mine would only be around 80 feet. Keep these fantastic videos coming.
Ive looked at all the fine yachts in Monaco harbour a few times over the last 40 years, but always from the shore. Lovely to see it from a beautiful Yacht, mooring. Thank you.
Great video again, professionals make things look easy, that's why those of us who aren't view with enjoyment. Thanks for sharing the daily activities of the Super Yacht AWOL.
I agree multiple cameras and angle shots would be great! But that's a lot more expensive, and harder to edit. Still, a great video. Thanks for posting, thumbs up!
Just came across this vlog, I used to be the First Officer on Motor Yacht ' Empress Of Cannes' operating out of Cannes, this brings back a lot of memories.
Love the video. Thank you. If there is any way for us to see more of what you are doing with the thruster, rudders and throttles that would be awesome. Cheers from Atlanta GA
when you first began this, i didnt hear you mention rudder controls. just bow thrusters and engines. maybe you did mention this, but i missed it Captain Morelock, but you handled it like a champ. award winning indeed. thank you.
You have to respect the great job the Captain did after watching the video from the Captain's point of view. I know the Captain has a crew and trusts them, but to not be able to see anything more than the starboard side of the boat and still guide it into it's slip is amazing. I don't know if they make RF remote controls for yachts, but if they don't, they should! This should be something the Captain can do while walking anywhere around the boat. It would be easier (I assume) and safer (again, I assume) if the Captain could move to the stern of the boat to dock it the last few meters. Nonetheless, amazing job - top shelf!
Yes, remotes exist. But so do interferences. And thus, they aren't really used that much. The only thing the captain needs to know precisely is the alignment respective to the dock and neighbouring yachts. And that information he can gather by himself from the side. The rest is simply a matter of distance from the dock. He has people aft and astern to be his eyes. He doesn't need anything else.
Much experience proves to all it cannot be replaced. Good job by you and the crew. BTW, AWOL is a toy compared to many you passed or at berth. What would be nice when you can is to show us when you put the anchors out after berthing.
Love the re-fit and docking vids as well as day to day stuff. Very informative. I find it hard enough to park a truck on a bay in the wind, would be a lot worse if the road also moved like the sea does nice job.
Brilliant!!!! always wanted To Go to Monaco And The f1 or Historic/car Or Rally but Capt ** you've Just done all In a couple Of Vlogs Thanks haha at 63yrs old I probably wont get theit But thanks Tc uk liverpool
I love this docking videos! I have been following your channel since the beginning and it never gets boring! You could upload a video explaining what is your favourite boat/yacht!
Captain, next time do you think you could do a 2-4 split window capture of you, and the deck hands synced up as the docking/undocking activity unfurled?
I love the "How to" title to this video, just like "How to sharpen a knife", "How to wash a window", "How to thread a needle... with a 37' super yacht". Your videos are really fascinating. I have so many questions... Does your starboard tach not work at that wing station? If the weather is less than spectacular, i.e. pouring down rain, do you just gear-up and still use the wing station? Is it the common courtesy of the vessels on either side of you to put out their fenders? I see that you don't have any out so as to not get tangled with the other yachts. Did you grow up on boats and develop your interest in yachting as a career? How long did it take for you to earn your four stripes? ***EDIT*** I just found the five episodes, "How I Became An Award Winning Super Yacht Captain", which I shall watch intently! Thanx!
Very confident parking! I would have darted through the helm to see what was on the port side several times during the reverse and be asking a lot more questions over the radio. Why I'm not a boat boss.
Hey mate, big g’day. There is a vessel 2 births up on your STBD side named Princess Iluka. She was refitted here on the Gold Coast Australia. She is a well known vessel here in Au. The transformation was amazing, if you like refits, ask the captain to show you before and after pics. nice to see she is still steaming around and looking good.
Another great video, thank. But I am left wondering why, as most docking seems to be stern on, do you not have helm controls available in the stern? it would surely simplify the process.
Great video as usual, nice one. One of your charter competitors has brought on board a 'social bosun' crew member who, among normal duties, will also be responsible for creating original content captured for the exclusive use of their charter guests using go-pros, drones and underwater cameras. The yacht hired the guy, purchased the kit and he will apparently work with the charter guests to create and capture their bespoke on-board experiences. Interesting how they are upping the guest experience..........technology and a great editor can be awesome. Maybe you should consider ?
I look forward to when you and Jared connect as it would be fantastic to do a "joint" production. Possible topic could be a discussion on charter operations...breaking down the costs, crew compliment, et.
Great job! I typically bounce off of at least three things whenever I pull in to the marina. (kidding! It's usually just two. :) ). What? I don't have bow thrusters. Heh!
That's about the best boat Handeling Iv seen sir nice job. I work at the New Port yart club in R.I. U.S.A. so I know how tough it can be again nice docking.
He's very good at docking considering how freaking huge that yacht is. If I ever have money to take a vacation on a yacht, I'd be perfectly happy booking a cruise with him.
6:00 The Yacht there in the upper left-hand corner of the video is Lionheart, a 90m built by Benetti Yachts and launched in early 2016. She has a cruise speed of 15knots and is said to have cost about $150,000,000 US to build.
