Another idea would be to add on top of that that you are allowed to switch two places, which counts for you and your opponent (maybe you have to use that ability between certain amount of done tasks otherwise you loose it)
Why are diagonals not a win? Don’t they effectively prevent your opponent from winning that board as they can’t get three in a row in any way at that point?
