I have not been so moved by a song in such a long time. I got chills listening to this. These guys are making powerful music.
The line you mentioned stuck out to me as well, but I think our attention was caught by different parts of it. The line was something like: "I still believe... my silence leads the path to Hell." I'm not too concerned with the belief part, as I cannot imagine what that type of violation would do to someone's spirit. I also can't imagine a God who would hold a lack of faith against someone who has experienced that.
I was drawn to the "silence leads the path to Hell," part. I would think the shame and guilt of living with abuse at the hands of church authorities would be it's own Hell, and staying silent about it could only intensify that feeling.
Anyway, that's just my take on it. Thank you so much for making this video and giving people a safe space to discuss this incredible song and video. Thank you, also, for sharing your story.

Thank you! Yes exactly Church Hurt is real and so is the abuse. I can only talk from a perspective of my up brining in a Catholic family.
That’s the problem you have just condemned 1500 years of Christians because you were the victim of abuse in a particular Church what of the victims of Protestant Churches? Are you ready to condemn them all due to wolves in sheep’s clothing.
Christ promised to preserve His Church remember that.
Implying the church is attempted to attain salvation from Mary is what the Catholic Church calls heresy. The Lord commanded us the HONOR our mothers… how much more so do you think Christ, that does everything perfectly, honors His mother???
We are going to suffer in this life and you are using your suffering to condemn the Church as opposed to the wolves that abused you.
The Lord can and will use ALL denominations to bring about his good will. Not just the Protestant church.

What an amazing song! Metal is a great vehicle to talk about this kind of atrocity and begin conversations. God bless COAT and Mike from Convictions for the boldness to write and record this song. Plus, it’s an absolute banger!
Hopefully Mike realizes what a huge mistake hopping on this track was. I expected more from the band using Catholic terminology and beliefs (stigmata, Peter being crucified upside down… etc.) but people do bad things with good intentions at times which is still not good but we will see where they take it from here.
Yeah this fits right in with mainstream metal… condemn the Catholic Church that compiled, canonized, copied, and preserved the scriptures.
They are beginning conversations for people to lose their faith not to strengthen it, of that I am sure.

@@Faith_Of_The_First_Order are you not looking into the multiple explanations of what this song is all about? There are so many explanations out there for what the intent is of this specific song. My assumption is that you don’t care to listen because it’s explained IN THIS VIDEO.
@@jose4stryper the vocalist clearly wrote in the post shared in this video what he the intent of the song was. Unfortunately him saying it is not anti Catholic does not mean much of anything when you simply read the lyrics. No Catholic would ever read those lyrics and think “this isn’t anti Catholic at all”. I understand the guy has a story and was abused in some way and now because of that he thinks it is ok to implicate Mary as having played a role in said abuse as well as her being demonic.
Condemn the wolves in any Church that twist doctrine, or anything else to abuse the flock.
Instead the guy Calls the mother of our Lord demonic which further implies Christ is born of a demon. Which is blasphemy of the first order.
There is no way around those lyrics. The path to hell is paved with good intentions. May God have mercy on our souls.
The vocalist says his DMs are always open for further discussion… dude put a song out to the public and now wants the discussion to go private. Explain the lyrics man… to the public like he released the song to the public, surely he can justify them and connect them to everything he claimed in his statement.
16:20 dude explains in context of this song “still maintaining belief despite the terrible things happening around you” or something to that effect. That’s what you got from those lyrics? Mary -> demonic embrace… yeah he still believes despite the Mother of Christ Jesus being demonic… sounds like he doesn’t believe in the same Jesus. But yeah he still believes in something I guess.
The music.: I dig it !! nothing that I haven't heard before but I like it..
The message: These songs about abuse make me think about what happens around it, how people react ...the behaviors that are more common but somehow .at least I find them related to abuse of power or neglect, or unhealthy/toxic behaviors with the excuse of "god told me to" or "that's in the bible" or anything based on religion or spirituality.
Deep respect to anyone who went through abuse, in church or any other place.. It's hard to heal that woud and it's hard to trust in that kind of people.. and it's too easy to focus on how much that wound hurts and slam doors, to give up on spirituality, hate religion, and more.

Yeah bro we Christians need to support artists to make more songs tearing down the Church and implying Mary is demonic. Jesus Christ Son of Mary that honors His mother perfectly might just thank you guys for dishonoring His mother and implicating her in the abuse mentioned in this song… highly doubtful though.

Forgive my stupid mistake:
In my anger after an exchange with a commenter that said “Hail Mary full of grace is demonic” I somehow managed to add “demonic” to the lyrics of this song which is NOT in the lyrics anywhere.
The dishonor of Mary and the Church:
Now that being said the song certainly does dishonor or Lords mother and thus our Lord. Denying Mary’s embrace as she is our Lords mother? Ok that’s odd… Insinuating Catholics are attempting to attain salvation from Mary is what the Catholic Church calls heresy. Implicating the Catholic Church (through the imagery of the Hail Mary) in abuse of the flock rather than condemning the wolves responsible for the abuse… this is certainly dishonor of the first order. Christ promised to preserve the Church and did not lead the church of the first 1500 years to teach heresy… the same church that compiled, canonized, copied, and preserved the scriptures.
Abuse in the church is often overlooked and there is no excuse for it. I appreciate the boldness that COAT have in writing and putting this out. I cried reading the lyrics. This song is so powerful.

Look up John Paul Miller and what he's done and has been doing regarding his now deceased wife; a man that is a pastor has confessed to being attracted to minors, has had multiple affairs (this is only scratching the surface) and is still allowed to be in his position while his congregation and superiors act like he has done nothing wrong. I am all for forgiveness but that doesn't absolve anyone of earthly consequence. We are to hold each other accountable - the head of a church even more so as the blood is on their hands if they are leading their flock astray. So maybe overlooked wasn't the right word, let's go with ignored, turned a blind eye to, covered up, etc. The only one calling Mary demonic is you. There is no disrespect to her, just your perception of it. Lord help us. May He bring the darkness into the light and let true justice be served for the victims of those that abuse others in His name and in His house. I pray that your eyes be opened to the truth and realities that brought this song to life in the first place. Maybe have a conversation with the men that wrote it so you can have a clear understanding of what the message really is. It isn't about condemning the Catholic Church or the church as a whole. It isn't demonizing Mary (though, my goodness, you are so convinced it is and I cannot fathom how). It is about crying out to God because of the guilt and shame (and often hatred toward the abuser) that comes with being the victim of abuse, and it happened in His house. And if you think singing there is no salvation in the Hail Mary prayer is bad well, I have news for you: Only salvation comes through Christ. Christ made that very clear. I hope we can at least agree on that.

I'm not Catholic, but I have been deeply damaged by the church; my experience isn't in the same vein of the song, but it has left me with doubt about the church as a whole. My experience stems from the suicide of my father, and the lack of appropriate interest of leaders to address what happened to me. I love the song. My relationship with God was essentially destroyed following the events, and I continue to struggle in the area of maintaining a level of faith, both in the church and in God.
Jennifer… people will fail you, even those that are supposed to be leaders of the Church can be ill equipped to do so, which is all too common. Know that the leaders of the Church will be held to account for your soul and will answer to the Lord for not protecting their flock.
That being said Christ will never fail you and will never abandon you no matter what. He knows what you are going through He was called a demon, betrayed, belittled, beaten, humiliated, and tortured to death in front of His mother and the Blessed Apostle John whom ran away then came back to be with Christ in his final moments.
He knows how hard it is for you to keep the faith… do not be anxious or afraid the Lord is with you and He will fight for you, you only need to take a step of faith and trust the Lord. Our God created the Church for a reason, one of those reasons is so that we would not isolate ourselves that you would gather with like minded believers that will encourage and pray for you.
Lord willing your father is with our Father in heaven. The Lord knows his pain and is merciful to forgive us. Take comfort and trust the Lord and seek to obey Him in all that you do and you will never be ashamed.
The Lord is not responsible for bad things that happen… but He can and will use even the worst circumstances to bring about His good will for your life.
Go find and commit to a Church, meet with them regularly and do life with them. The Lord will meet you where your at…
The pain of this world will be present until we die or the Lord returns. But the Lord is by your side, He loves you and is saying “Trust me, let me fight for you, I’ll never leave you, I love you.”

Sadly the church is fallible as it is made up of people who are sinful. But that is the hope we can have for the future, when Jesus returns and make the hearts of his people return to goodness.
I've experienced some leadership issues myself, I didn't mention in the video. But the church I really went from teenagehood to adulthood in really failed me. The pastor who I was really close with committed adultery and it destroyed what was our church body. It made me really check and make sure if I was placing my faith in man or in God.
It is so natural for us to look at church leadership as some sort of stand in for Jesus. And in many ways they are supposed to be, all believers are. But we often mistake them for Jesus and expect the same level of perfection that Jesus lived, and that we cannot attain.
I hope and pray that you will find peace, perhaps some forgiveness for the people of God as a whole. 🙏
Dude, check out the book "Behold Your Mother" by Tim Staples. It gives an excellent defense of the biblical basis of Catholic (and Orthodox!) beliefs regarding Mary. I know you said you disagree with these teachings, but this might give you a better understanding of where they come from. If you think you'll read it, let me know and I'll buy you a digital copy.

Rejecting Mary’s embrace odd considering she is the Mother of our Lord…?
To loathe the guilt Mary makes you feel inside as though Mary convicts you with guilt is no where to be found in the Catholic Church.
Mary or prayers to Mary do not claim to provide one with salvation… Do your mothers prayers provide you with salvation? The lines referring to this only make sense to someone that was poorly catechized. In any case this misrepresents the Catholic practice of praying to Mary, Condemns the Catholic Church by insinuating they worship or try to attain salvation by praying to Mary (a false god apparently)
So yes the song does dishonor the Mother of our Lord thus dishonoring the Lord that commands us to honor our mother… how much more so does our perfect Lord honor his mother?
I am going to be charitable and assume the abuse mentions where not referring to Mary. The reason the Hail Mary is used at all in this song is to condemn Mary as a false God and to implicate the Catholic Church… the same church that compiled canonized copied and preserved the scriptures… in abuse rather than the wolves responsible for the abuse.
