    Good review. Absolutely agree about wishing for more CV outs. However, one thing worth noting is that the gate/trigger outs can also be clock outs and resets, which I’ve found to be quite useful. You can also divide those clock outs with the software, which could save some space you’d use for a clock divider.

      can you elaborate a bit? I have no idea what I"d use a clock out for or a reset. Are there reset inputs?

      More CVs = more cost, though - you need a DAC which you don't need for gate/trigger which are just on/off.

    The demo @1:00 is beautiful. I would love to hear more of Edd's music outside the context of a review.

    Fully agree with your conclusion. While the gate : CV ratio is not ideal for many use cases, it is useful for sequencing a percussion pattern + a melodic pattern or two simultaneously. But most importantly, its price point is extremely attractive and makes it well worth its inherent compromises.
    Personally I prefer the Vermona qMI2 for its simplicity and increased CV outputs, but it's a lot more expensive and actually can't do a lot of the things this can. I also use the FH-2, which I believe can do everything this can and more, BUT only has half the outputs for almost double the price, or you can get the expander which makes it a strict superset of this but like triple the price.

    The CV OCD could do with the LEDs that the Mutant Brain has. Makes it easy to see what is going on!

    Nice sound! Please, sorry for my modular inexperience: does the Mutant Brain MIDI to CV receive clock impulse from D.A.W. software (like Ableton, Logic, ecc.) via sound card or analog mixer? Thanks in advance.

    I want to buy one, but have few questions. Does it have velocity and aftertouch output? Can I use simple midi to usb adapter with this module to connect it to computers usb (if I dont have midi cable)?

    Folks of @sonicstate, I'm wondering a couple of things:
    From Digitakt to MB, can you make the Clock out stop when the Digitakt sequencer stops?
    Also, how do I program gate channels beyond the first 4 to output patterns from the sequencer? The first 4 work fine but what about MIDI E through H, these do not seem to respond?

    Great breakdown! Thank you. I set it up the way you described, but for gates 5-12 I'm only getting a trigger to gate 5 is there something that I need to change on the digitakt? Also not getting a clock signal.. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Does anyone know why when i sequence via cubase, even with a 1/64th note midi send sometimes it triggers multiple times. is my config forked?

    I've been thinking about something like this. I use a Toraiz Sampler workstation to send MIDI out to my Pittsburgh SV-1 in my case which converts to CV and gate. There's 1 cc out and velocity out. In the Toraiz i can easily customize that Cc and save the settings per scene (16 scenes per save file) So it's extremely easy to control filter sweeps, pitch bends using the touchstrip, or assign a synced LFO to modulate that cc amount. The problem is the SV-1 has only one cc out while there is potential to store multiple custom cc parameters on the workstation. But Pittsburgh did an excellent job with the space they had (Digital LFO with 2 outs, arp, etc.) and i know they have another Lifeforms MIDI module on the market but i haven't looked into it. Fun stuff!

    Interesting. But I’m thinking of an ES-8 to get MIDI & audio in & out of computer / modular. Wondering how this compares. Obviously no inputs. But is there more to consider?

    • @rdean150
      @rdean150 6 лет назад

      ES-8 is a full blown audio interface. The more comparable Expert Sleepers module is the FH-2 (with the MIDI DIN expander). But there are several Expert Sleepers modules that can accomplish the end goal here, if the MIDI sequence is stored on a computer and you use the Silent Way software.

    • @Dogboy73
      @Dogboy73 5 лет назад

      @@rdean150 I'm thinking now the ES-8 is overkill for me, especially for the cost. It's not far shy of $800 here in Australia. I have audio i/o through my audio interface. So CV i/o is more of a thing I want. A lot of similar modules don't have CV input, so that's a problem. I can live without it for the cost of something like the Mutant Brain. If it had CV input & more CV / modulation outputs I'd be all over it. Still not sold as it is. I'm struggling to find my perfect module for the problem of CV i/o between my DAW (Reason) and my small modular set-up.

    Every time I see one of these web configuration things I wonder how long the domain will be up and how long it will work, I'm sure the hardware will still be around in 10-20 years, but will this website still be working? I wish all sites like this would have a zip file at the bottom of the code that you can just bung in apache and host locally for redundancy

      Well Github was a great place to store source code for such applications, but Micro$oft bought them so now it's just a matter of time before that place is a ghost town. But it is totally possible to release your application source code to a public repository to ensure it will be available for future generations.

      The web site code is shared with CVOCD and is here github.com/hotchk155/hotchk155.github.io/tree/master/cvocd but i am looking to make a downloadable EXE version ... hopefully in next few months.

      That is a fair and honest worry! I get ya there. There are future plans for a standalone cross-platform app for generating the SysEx (as Jason mentioned above). As well, if it ever were to be taken down, the code could be readily implemented even on your own computer (it doesn't actually need the internet to do its thing, it's purely active code on the page basically)

      @@encrust1 Well, it saves you almost $100 and has 8 more gate outputs. Yarns can do 4 drums and 4 channels of CV, or 4 cv/gate pairs, or poly stuff. Mutant Brain can sequence 8 drums PLUS 4 cv/gate pairs/poly...

    Hi, does it work with Elektron Rytm?

    • @hexinverterDOTnet
      @hexinverterDOTnet 6 лет назад

      As far as I know the Rytm doesn't send MIDI data out of its sequencer. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's a limitation of it. So it might not work for sequencing. On the other hand, it works a treat with the Digitakt and/or Octatrack or other gear that does spit out MIDI from its Elektron sequencer.

    Why can't you guys only focus on the theme/title of the video...? - It's confusing when you connect 10k equipment that is not directly connected to MB, so that no one can really follow what is going on!
    From the whole video there are only max. 5 minutes who explain the programming and using of the Mutant Brain...! Sorry, but it's much more impressive to read 2 pages of the (only downloadable) guide from Hexinverter than to understand how one's gonna start using the MB the first time
