I don't know what it is about these little Briggs engines George but they seem indestructible and so simple, Makes you wonder why we have all these complicated electronic management systems and sensors on modern car engines.
I personally think that originally it might have been the case George but it's now been exploited and now it all overkill to make people not be able to repair their own vehicles making you have to buy more spare parts and take it to them for repair.. Cheers Martin
I had hoped this one would fire right up, but seeing it was in a barrel of scrap engines I figured there must be something wrong with it. The swap from a points system to a pointless system is easy and that's all it took.
That's cool George! Those carbs are super simple. New diaphragms in the carb would make that thing run perfectly. Did that to an old briggs motor I gave away....ran like a top!
I am going to do just what you said. But what am I going to do with the motor? I told my wife last night that I have too many motors now. More projects ahead for sure. Thanks Tom
Now that is something to think about for sure. I am already thinking of dual carbs on the 8hp engine for the Goofy Cart II. That idea popped into my head yesterday while puttering with this little engine. Well, off to church, have a blessed day.
The Shade Tree Fix-it Man I was thinking of getting an old briggs side twin with the one barrel carb and machining a manifold for two one barrels. lol Be fun! Have a great day at church George!
Haha George, a 5 horse Briggs is the engine I used when I started racing go karts. Then graduated to an2 cycle Yamaha, then to a 100 CC piston port engine, then a reed jet engine then to the 125cc motorcycle engine, then to the big boy 250 rotax engine hahaha
very cool,i have a similar briggs,i think its 2 horsepower. its old and has a oil bath air cleaner, the old briggs are hard to date. i cleaned the points and carb on mine and it fired right up.i have no idea what i will do with it as of now.
That is the problem for me, too many motors now. I'm thinking of selling some of them to make room for more parts and I haven't finished fixing or stripping all the equipment from that last haul that this was in yet. Thanks Roger
i have shelves full of engines from a hoard cleanout i did. i think i even have a wisconsin. one day i will go thru them, most are in the basement which makes a good snow day project
That is a good question Ed, maybe pair it up with another small engine on a bike of some kind? We shall see. I have an abundance of engines right now all waiting for a project to be used on.
looks like it is starting to dry up around you ,, grass got a good watering ,,, she sounds like she runs well ,, even trying to get away on you ,, so what are you going to attach that one too ?
I got one like this. It's OLD too. Harvey Spooner wanted to see my video on it. I was just going to show it off. As far as I know it runs. I might need a few parts but when I do my video watch it please. Thanks
nice motor, a word bout ur drainage issues, you can find a post hole auger you can just drill hole in the ground all over and fill with rock and gravel, makes digging what its going to take to fix ur problem or just make it satisfactory lots easier, small investment for less stress, you can build one if that lil lawn-boy motor runs,, make handle bars and find a auger used or new, bout 100 bucks at the most i would pay, but who knows what u`ll find. WORK SMARTER-NOT HARDER.
You're welcome, And looks like you're looking good on that haul. W i'm waiting on the Lawn Boy to see how it comes out It appears to look like a newer metal frame though which is far from what I consider a true old school Lawn boy. LOL
I don't know what it is about these little Briggs engines George but they seem indestructible and so simple, Makes you wonder why we have all these complicated electronic management systems and sensors on modern car engines.
Because someone has figured that they can make them run more efficiently, but in reality they need re-calibrating again even with computers.
I personally think that originally it might have been the case George but it's now been exploited and now it all overkill to make people not be able to repair their own vehicles making you have to buy more spare parts and take it to them for repair..

I agree, there are even bills in our Congress to not allow people to work on their own vehicles anymore...
Thats great George got it running and it was sitting upside down in a barrel amazing. Two thumbs up
Thank you Larry
I swear the old stuff just wants to run again. Sometimes they fire right up.
I had hoped this one would fire right up, but seeing it was in a barrel of scrap engines I figured there must be something wrong with it. The swap from a points system to a pointless system is easy and that's all it took.
And away she goes...Good stuff George.
Thanks Ziggy
Pretty cool. I like bringing them back to life!
That is probably one of the most satisfying things of working on old motors for me. Thanks CT

The Shade Tree Fix-it Man I think a triple engine goofy cart III would be sweet! :D
Now that is something to think about for sure. I am already thinking of dual carbs on the 8hp engine for the Goofy Cart II. That idea popped into my head yesterday while puttering with this little engine. Well, off to church, have a blessed day.

Nice job George, great save!
Thank you Lloyd
it's amazing the difference in engine sizes now from 100 years ago, back then a 2.5 engine would have weighed well over 100#.
And now no one would even think of something this small on a lawnmower or snowblower. It is interesting how engines change over the years.
Very nice start up on the ol engine! Have a good'nnn
Thank you Daniel
You're welcome. Have a good'nnnn
I had a Yellow one on a mini-bike many years ago ...It would barely pull me ..but it was a cute little engine
That is what I am thinking, but maybe something for my grandchildren? Thanks Jim
Sound great George !
A little more tinkering on the carb and it should be good to go. Thanks Shawn
Great job George.
Thank you Dan
Looks like a great engine to use on a future build
Or sell or give away to someone else who could use it.
Sounds like a plan.
Nice it seems to be running really well. Nice old motor for sure.
Thanks Scott

Love your engine review vids when u show and run the different kinds of engines.
Thanks Deron for stopping by today
sounds like it runs good. good save!
Thanks Dean
That's a good running old Briggs!
A little tinkering with the carburetor and she should be golden! Thanks Alan
George turns an old engine and it runs, engine slowly turns and scans the horizon looking for something to power.
How about two of these engines hooked together?
TV Tommy Georgeo
Or maybe 4?
:> )
Cool
Yeah man
I haven't seen a 2 1/2 for a while. First pull, great job.
It is a neat little old engine for sure. Thanks
Great lil engines, Gotta love one that wants to live...
For sure. Thank you Bruce
Who doesn't love a good resurrection?
For sure. Thanks
See what happens when old is better than new. Cheers
Sometimes being old does have it's advantages...LOL
Good one George.
Now I need to find something or someone to use it.

Thumb's up George!
Thank you my friend.
Nice!
Yes sir and thanks Byron.
You make it look so easy ...
It was pretty easy on this one. Thanks Alan
i have this exact engine on a weed wacker the thing is such a pain to start but when it does it backfires alot and sounds like chitty chitty bang bang
Sounds like a good tuneup is needed, eh?
check it out on my channel just uploaded
Good Engine but not to much Power - T=up George
Not much power is right, but something fun to tinker with. Thanks
Nice little motor George what ya gona do with it :)
That is a good question Ed, maybe pair it up with another small engine on a bike of some kind? We shall see. I have an abundance of engines right now all waiting for a project to be used on.
I learned a Spanish word today: botafumeiro. I don't know what made me think of that..........
What does it mean????
smoke expeller! Normally a thurible.
Both new words for me!
looks like it is starting to dry up around you ,, grass got a good watering ,,, she sounds like she runs well ,, even trying to get away on you ,, so what are you going to attach that one too ?
Time to mow again tomorrow and we have had two days this past week of 2" + rain. Everything is really green around here.
nice runner, what did you have to do to it to get to run?
I changed the coil and eliminated the point setup, though they are still in there under the flywheel. That's all! Easy fix. Thanks Josh
The Shade Tree Fix-it Man
did you get my email i sent you? with all the machinist levels?
No sir, I haven't seen one and I checked all three of my email accounts.
what is your email again?

I got one like this. It's OLD too. Harvey Spooner wanted to see my video on it. I was just going to show it off. As far as I know it runs. I might need a few parts but when I do my video watch it please. Thanks
I try to watch all of your videos Calvin. Thanks
I know you do and I for one do appreciate that.

Your last statement is my motto too. The trench will hopefully only be a temporary fix as I am hoping to get the driveway regraded and paved...
Sounds like a dandy.
Yes sir, I do believe she is. Thanks
You're welcome, And looks like you're looking good on that haul. W
i'm waiting on the Lawn Boy to see how it comes out It appears to look like a newer metal frame though which is far from what I consider a true old school Lawn boy. LOL
Probably on Friday I will get to the Lawnboy, I have Craftsman rider to get put back together tomorrow. Thanks for following along.
You're welcome. It gives me something to keep my mind off the pain and not being able to get out when it's too hot or raining.
nice
Thanks
Christmas in July
