I live here in the philippines and i constatly use bamboos for chicken coups, dog houses, and other livestock housing and cages. I can agree with your knots and lashing technique even it's different with the materials i used. But i noticed you used green or undried bamboo poles. No matter how tight you tied them, when those pole dries up and shrink, your knots and lashings will loosen for sure. When you opted to lash or tie bamboos, better use dry poles.....
You are definitely right. I’m was busy tightening a few today. I’m so impatient though and wanted to shoot that video without waiting for the bamboo to dry. I know dry all my bamboo before I have projects to do
Great video Sean. Todd here. Very informational. I can't wait for my place to have bamboo to use as well. Hey, the next time I see you I will pay you back for postage on the fish cards. Thanks again.
Hey Sean thanks for taking the time to make the video. I've done a number of buildings using square lashings here in Panama and I've found it difficult to finish them using either a clove hitch or constrictor knot since the cord can slip on the shiny surface of the bamboo. To get past this I start with a timber hitch and leave about an eight inch tail. Make the lashing as you do (we call the cinch turns frapping turns) then finish by looping back to the timber hitch and knotting the ends together with a square (or reef) knot. Difficult to describe in words but give it a go, I think you'll like it.
Very good illustration if the knots. The only thing I would do different wound ne to finish off with a round-turn & 2 half-hitches. They are simple, reliable, addt attitudinal tension to the standing part while being ties, and can easily be untied while under strain.
These are very useful lashings and ties, thank you for sharing! I've been using a hemp twine just because it's biodegradable, I'd be curious what your opinion on appropriate twine, cord, rope would be. Maybe a potential video topic? Pros and cons of the different options? Take care!
@Lindsay Haven ~ using hemp/coconut rope is good, but you should seal it with linseed oil or some other nontoxic oil sealant to secure longevity in the line you use. ✨ 🍻 ✨
Hopefully you are working with bamboo that is dry already so it won’t shrink. But once in a while you have to tighten. That’s why I like using bolts mostly
Thank you for making this video. I am literally sitting here with two pieces of bamboo in my lap and it would REALLY help if you didn't change angles in the middle of the tutorial. Its super confusing.
The tie off with less than an inch from the bamboo end ...that would drive me nuts. I could never trust that it won't work it's way off then end with the constant movement of a typical tree.
I plan to move back home from Texas and look forward to doing my first bamboo build on the big isle. You mentioned another type of lashing. What is it called and where would I order this type? I'm gonna start my knot tieing while I'm still here. Mahalo for sharing.... Malama porno! 💯💪😎🤙🏽

Do they get really strong when dried, with out putting in that boric?
Yes !
10% of lost i have read somewhere
25 mm = 2,5 mm less when green gonna dry !
Brother, I'm building cucumber trellises and found your channel. You're eyes tell me we would chill together in our gardens if we were neighbors.
I could chill in the garden all day. It would be nice to chill with someone else too

No worries Todd. That was my gift to you.
Thanks for this tutorial!
No problem. Thanks for watching
No problem
Super cool channel, learned a fair bit. Just added a deck rail using bamboo and it turned out nice. Bamboo is awesome.
Bamboo is cool, I'm ready to make more with it.
That’s cool…. Good progress so far on the bamboo hut.
Thanks. I threw up a temporary tarp roof. For now so I could take a break.
But its coming along
Thank you Sir for your lashing techniques..
My pleasure! Thanks for watching
Aloha Sean, Thanks for the cards. I got them last Friday. They are great. 🤙
Awesome! Glad you like them!
Yo in kauai now . Ur videos are hella useful
Awesome! That’s why I make em
Sean thanks for another great video presenting to me options when I finally get to the point of building.
I'm hoping there's enough that people can just go out and build one themselves. Good luck on your project!

Mahalo for sharing. I think I get what you are trying to say and I’m definitely going to give it a go. The Clive hitch does have its issues.

Thanks for that, I’ll give it a try on my next lashing project and see how it works out.
nice treehouse mate!
Mahalo
Really useful stuff, thank you! How many feet or meters would you say each joint takes?
Probably 3' per tie
I melt the ends of my paracord lengths like I was taught in the Army. We called 550 cord though.
Great point!
Use bankline for permanent builds.
I’ll look that up. Thanks.
Dude! This is exciting!! You now have one more subscriber and a big fan of the channel!!
Cool. Thanks dallas
hi! This is awesome! What's the name of the cord you would have bought if you were on the mainland? Thank you so much for sharing all this!
Manila, hemp or jute are great materials
Wouldn't it be better to get it wet first (soak it?) It will tighten when it dried and be as tight as possible for when it rains?
Noted

That could be a good idea. I'll have to start collecting different materials.

The bamboo will shrink in size how you gonna re tighten it can you use a native rope like ratan as well?nice video very informative

Can you tell us what is the best cord to join bamboo, please
I use paracordthats been soaked first

Sorry, Maybe I'll make an updated short

You work with what you got, but I can say it's still standing 3 years later
Do we get some muawi wowie incentive for a like 👍🏼
I wish!!
how long will paracord last in the weather before the fibers break down and the structure collapses?
I e had it last 7 years on another structure
Very nice 👍💯💯💯🙏
Mahalo!
I plan to move back home from Texas and look forward to doing my first bamboo build on the big isle.
You mentioned another type of lashing. What is it called and where would I order this type?
I'm gonna start my knot tieing while I'm still here. Mahalo for sharing....
Malama porno! 💯💪😎🤙🏽
I don't understand your question. The rope i use is paracord i got at home depot
Cinch Knot = Clove Hitch? Yes?
Yes
you can make rope out of your bamboo pretty easily just an fyi
But that’s MORE work
Bamboos
For the win!
hands block rope too much
Sorry. Hard to get a good angle up there
