Can we just take a bit to appreciate how much of a wholesome character Esme truly is? She looks exactly like the kind of woman who makes the best homemade meals and who gives the best hugs. She's an amazing wife who took care of her husband after he got injured, did all the work on their farm by herself, and went on a long trip to keep a roof over their heads. Plus, she's very motherly to both Babe and the Landlady. And, in my opinion, she's a cutie! She's honestly the best wife anyone could hope for. She's also a great example of an unlikely hero! She's just a simple, naive and not very bright country bumpkin who never ventured far from her sheep farm, but she still fought tooth and nail against this new, hostile world. I mean, just in this scene, she goes through total hell; dragged around, battered, humiliated and literally blown up like a balloon while those snobbish people stare at her like she's a freak show attraction. But she never gives up until she rescues the ones she cares about! The comedy scenes with her are also genuinely hilarious and even surprising; I certainly didn't expect to see her bungee-jumping around the ballroom and the punchline of her clown costume tearing itself apart and her "backside" inflating like something out of Willie Wonka after that little tag got pulled off, lmao. Plus, just the whole idea of having this adorable old lady treated involved in scenes like getting chased around while trying to save her pet pig, doing some pretty impressive acrobatics and THEN getting accidentally transformed into a huge rubber ball by a random guy who got his hands in the wrong place is hilarious! Using this type of cartoonish, Looney Tunes-like "abuse" for a character that looks just like a classic grandma is definitely NOT what I expected! It's just the sort of "chaotic weird" stuff that I always loved to see in older films. I also really like the subtle details in this scene's humour, like how, against all odds, the champagne glass tower ISN'T destroyed, how it's implied that the guy who pulled the tag off Esme's clown pants had to get his hands in her "rear" to do it considering the tag was attached to the back of her pants, and Esme's hilarious facial expressions that make it clear that she had no idea she was wearing an inflatable rubber suit until it was revealed to her in the worst possible way. And I absolutely love how the strange and surreal comedy of her scenes don't stop her from shining as the film's true hero! It's very rare to see a woman in slapstick scenes, but even more rare to see a film portraying a woman as being both the unlucky, "silly" comic relief and the protective hero, all while never feeling out of character in either moment. Hats off to whoever wrote this character and to Magda Szubanski for her flawless portrayal. It's such an unexpected and creative direction for a "traditional housewife" role. Esme is just incredibly underrated, and unironically one of my favourite female protagonists ever.
I agree and she got strip searched, got her purse stolen and got covered in glue at the same hardening her dress wich split exposing her backside and underwear forcing her to wear that inflateable clown outfit later

Who feels bad for Esme during this film? The whole story the revolves around Esme loosing her stuff mainly. 1. She's stripped naked at the airport 2. Most of her stuff along with the pig gets stolen in the hotel 3. As she's searching for these, her dress gets ruined and her purse is stolen as well 4. When she gets back her dress rips apart and exposed her butt. Resulting in her having to wear Fugly's clown suit 5. And in the ballroom they take her handkerchief first, then her stockings and shoes and finally the waiter takes the tag from her, which causes her to rip the only remaining clothes she had as she inflates into a baloon.

"Pig! You get here now!" - Magda Szubanski
Caleb Law Why are all those people in the ballroom yelling, screaming in terror, protecting theirselves, freaking out, falling down and getting so scared?
Why did Esme say “Pig, You get here now”?
Because it was a simple mistake for the pig.
Caleb Law were the people in the ballroom angry at Esme for coming into the ballroom and swinging around and bumping into them?
Alexxis -26- Porn STARS ღ*GO MY PROF!LE* ღ were the guests in the ballroom angry at Esme?

Why does my 13 year old girl cousin Brooklyn who was born on August 15th, 2008 and was a gymnast from 2014-2019 know about The Lion King, but not this scene from Babe Pig in the City?
i remember, when this movie got popular before in my place, couples didnt want to be called 'babe' because they are not a pig. lmAo
but this movie was really good! it's cute and heartwarming.
I was watching this scene with my little 4 year old niece Oona who is a very serious gymnast.
I am 25 years old and I have been watching Babe ever since I was 4 and I still watch it often now. Are there little girl gymnasts in elementary school who know about the ballroom scene from Babe pig in the city as well as I know about it?

Along with Esme (Mrs. Hoggett) she’s probably one of the few pure hearted humans in this movie. Not excluding Mr. Hoggett of course.
This movie is such a trip lol
This movie felt like a fever dream
Theonis the orangutan butler saying thank the pig is him finally accepting Babe as a friend. Up until that point he treated Babe coldly especially after the death of his master Flugley
Even more heartwarming when Thelonius becomes a helper for Esme, after seeing her in Flugley’s costume, and calling Esme “Herself”, according to the narrator 🦧
I love animals so much 💋

This movie 10x better than Animal Movies this days.
What's great is that they used real animals. Nowadays everything has to be cg.

So fun 😂🎉
I remember watching this movie as a really young kid, being really confused about it and having no idea of what was going on. And now it still kind of feels like that watching it as an adult.
I randomly saw just this scene as I was changing channels as a kid, and untill this day I thought it was a bizarre fever dream.
I like babe since I was small because it is so cute and adorable!!!!!! What do you guys think ?

I really find interesting how in the first film Babe had Chucky’s voice actress from Rugrats and that in this film it was Tommy’s voice actress from Rugrats who took her place. Wonder if that was a coincidence.

Obviously the first movie was way better than Babe, pig in the city, but this one was also good, specially its soundtrack. Do yourselves a favor and listen to "Protected by Angels" :3

As far as I'm aware, CGI and animatronics were used for this film. It needs to be said, though, that the result is impressive!
