I was introduced to this video in my Mandarin Language class back when I was 8. It used to scare me due the imagery of Nianshou, but now I find I share a similar trait to the monster: a crippling fear of sudden loud noises.
Hi Ms Adner, my name is Al and I teach primary, I want to show this video to my year 1 and i'm not sure whether it too scary for children to see this, epecially the sence where Nian ate the guy? plz email me your response. alwong9509@gmail.com
it does not matter if its real or fake...the people make it real by beliving in it...and it is there tradition you are not allowed to make fun of the tradiotion(btw i am a cypriot)
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does anyone know of a way to log back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost the password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me!
I just commented this in 2018 xD. This is very entertaining :0. This is why i love China, amazing song in the Lunar/Chinese new year, the Barongsai (or uhh... the.. lion thing not Nian). I LIKED THIS VERY MUCH....
Thats why the protefted themselves by wearing red and painting their houses red then use loud gongs and firecrackers to scare the monster away. What does it teaches you? Courage and prosperity plus be happy :)
it's only a legend and is considered as the original reason for people to celebrate the Chinese new year, in Chinese, the new year is "guo nian", which can be directly translated as "pass the nian", this means if you can survive from the "nian",it worth celebrating. I've checked the history book, it is said that the Chinese new year is closely connected to the lunar month, solar system in ancient China and is originated from the ritual activities about 5000 years ago, Shang dynasty. At that time, people believe the new year means something to the agriculture, and as far as I am concerned ,since the new year is usually the most freezing time of the year, due to the cold weather and the lack of food, people wish to pass the nian and wait for the spring
It's what's more familiar to the people who made this and their audience; it's the same reason why you see Baroque paintings of Roman soldiers looking a lot like Spanish conquistadors.
When I first heard about this story it was great i think my teacher showed me this I didn't now why every thing was red when I saw this story now I no why every thing is red when i celebrate CNY
I'm confused. If Nian still can escape and the people have tp defend themselves, why would the gods do such things? If they really try to stop it, why they stop trying to lock it again?
This is the legend I've heard since young. CNY is very important for us Chinese, it's a time of reunion, joy, celebrations and unity
I used to love this story and I still love it now! I ALWAYS imagined what it looked like when I was young
I remember watching this at school long ago and thinking the Nian was the coolest thing ever.

Nians theme song is so badass
I LOVE Tian's design! He's like a cat dragon, slinky and lithe, yet powerful and intimidating.
Remember, When I used to be 9 yrs old, I would watch this in mandarin class, and It was scared the heck out,but my teacher told about the story
The nian is afraid of the color red
The nian: * realize it's eyes are red*
Doctor: Why do you want to change your eye color?
The nian: don't ask
If Nian eats people then his actually eating their red blood as well
The animation is so good!
Nian was shocked by all the colours and noises everywhere he went

Not so long later Nian appeared at the village
