  • A 78-year-old businessman who was allegedly operating the boat that killed a teenage ballerina is speaking out. Carlos Guillermo Alonso’s attorney says he had no idea that an accident had occurred. Alonso’s boat was discovered by investigators after a three-day search docked outside his luxury waterfront home in Coral Gables. Ella Adler was killed while water skiing on Mother's Day weekend. Alonso has not been charged and is said to be cooperating with the investigation.

However, a witness from another boat did state that the yacht, she was wakeboarding from, was urgently blaring its horn as it was circling back to the girl so it was likely less than a minute and it can take only a couple of seconds for a child or pet to get loose, dart into a street and get hit by a car.

@@firelordplayz how much time have you spent operating a boat? You have engine noise, wind noise, and noise from chop hitting the hull. As a boater..... I own a 15' 27' and an 82' in that bay, you're looking for traffic! Not who's in the water! I feel horrible for both parties involved! If I was at the helm.... and I did something like this I would be horrified! What none boaters don't understand. You hear and have sound constantly on the haul. It's not like running a car

They will now make this all about HIM; hit and run, etc. Whoever was towing her did not follow safety protocols doing so in a high traffic area. R.I.P.

@@michaelashley2855: The meaning: usually people waterski in safer areas, not near boat traffic. Usually they ski with smaller, faster boats to turn quickly to go get and keep safe anyone who fell into the water. Also, not a great idea to have two people falling into the water and a distance apart. Everything about the waterskiing was badly planned and unsafe.

I don't think the man is going to be charged. It's not the guy had any ill intent to hit that girl nor was he was under the influence of drugs/alcohol (as far as we know.) Worst case scenario is that he just his boating license revoked or gets a slap on the wrist. And given how crooked the justice system can be, the latter is the most likely outcome.
