I don't do actual mountain biking but love the look of these Polygon mountain bikes. I have an old Claud Butler from 20 years ago that is nowhere near as up to the mark, but I have to say those bars look ridiculous to me and somewhat dangerous given their width in such confined spaces. Further to that, I used to do BMX as a kid and I think the stems on all MTBs I have seen look positively puny and under engineered. I take it I am missing something?
Im no mountain bike expert so I can’t really say why they’re this wide. From what I’ve read it’s is because it makes it easier to control and gives you more stability. I went from narrow bars to wide bars and I actually prefer the wider bars now. I will say I do get freaked out when I am going fast and have to squeeze between 2 trees lol.
I also come from the world of bmx. 80's. I'm used to raised seats for wheelies and although I get some of the idea of a narrow bar for freestyle purposes (bar spins and clearance and less mass to spin etc... as far as I'm concerned I like a bar that is about slightly wider than shoulders for the mtb. I like the control..but some of the trails I ride can be narrow between trees..but if you're on wide jump trails and don't need the ability to squeeze between trees. It's basically natural preference. Like if you're doing a bench press of push up. You may want the hands about the same width apart.
@@mrupholsteryman I have been watching a few vids on the Polygons which I really like but some of them actually have the front of the stem plate as two separate pieces - so it's two narrow strips jamming the bars on. The suspension must be expected to take a hell of a lot of the force as I have seen lads snap their bars and stems when I was a kid. The likes of those 780mm or even 800mm wide, seem like they would be less responsive and more fatiguing.
Did you add any air to the front suspension when you first got it?? Mine will be here Friday and I can't wait just wondering if you had to add air to the forks right when you got it!!
@MTB_FANATIC99 nice, I’m excited for you. There should be a chart on the back of the shock that tells you the psi that you need. If you’re riding mainly in the street I run it a bit firmer.
@@offdaystv couple more questions thank you man sorry I got so many questions did you grease your through axle on the front or anything on the bike? I ordered the 27.5 version in a medium frame I'm 5'9 but I like to ride wheelies and jump curbs and stuff and how tall are you and how much air pressure did you put in I know there's a chart but I'm just curious? Like I said I'm 5'9 and I weigh about 170 lb
Looks super fun!
i always love the xtradas
@@thewopwoptour I know this video is 2 years old but they're on sale right now for $799 I just ordered one

Some stems definitely look puny compared to the 80's bike stuff. Maybe it is for weight savings or cost in material?
@@offdaystv Yeah, I can imagine being sandwiched between two large ones is not a happy experience.

Yes you need to look at the air pressure. You need the correct air pressure for your body weight. You can use a shock pump or take it to a bike shop
@@offdaystv I ordered a shock pump it'll be here Friday that's when the bike gets here as well 👍🏻👍🏻

@MTB_FANATIC99 I’m not 100% sure cause it’s been so long. I didn’t grease anything I would now if I were to get another one
What rear hubs are on the bike? Stock? Or did you replace? Thanks
These come stock with the polygon.
Ordered myself an xtrada 7. Which dropper post did you got with?
PNW rainier Gen 3 I believe is the name
@@offdaystvdid you have to drill out the rivet for the cage bolts or did the dropper post fit right in??
@ drop post should fit right in. It’s a pretty easy install.
