Gonna be honest, her New Year's advice aged so well. Animals eventually did take over for a time last year while we were all couped up inside trying not to die from a disease.
This makes me wonder.. how would have Daria adjusted, her opinion & such on the pandemic. Maybe a lot of “just a pandemic alone would show us who honestly cares about one another while also showing we are futile creatures to death, disease & disasters..”
Considering 9/11 was only a few months ago, this NYE party has an almost somber and eerie atmosphere to it. Nobody seems super thrilled despite trying to have a good time. Daria somehow comes off as cheerful and a breath of fresh air.
I was born in 2002 and I had no chance to watch that gold old MTV, but, damn, watching the old records of it I really feel that atmosphere. The past always seems better than the present, though I've never lived in the past. Also Daria is a great show.
I was born in 2000s I'm literally a millennial kid, I grew up during what I consider the bestest years of my life, but I did always enjoy things from the 90s even if I wasn't born during it.

I don’t know about that. I don’t think I agree. Because 2001 was the early 2000s and that was the year 9/11 happened and 9/11 changed the world (or America, anyway) things weren’t like the way they were in the 90s compared to when 9/11 happened and after
I was 15 years old and trying to figure out life until I finally realized the only thing I needed to do was know thyself and do forself. Thanks Malcolm X
Omg Carson Daily. Wow. I remember this. Back when MTV was still fun. My fav New Years was Gwen Stefani singing "It's the End of the World as we know it" whens she was still with No Doubt going into 2000. Y2K was a thing and it was awesome.
Wow what a blast from the past I was probably 11 or 12 years old when MTV felt more like MTV and not the BS they come up with now plus TRL now I’m feeling old 30 turning 31 .
I’m sorry to hear that. It was the year my parents got divorced... so ‘02 wasn’t a great year for me either. Sounds like cancer runs in your family. You should go to the doctor and make sure you don’t get it
It's funny you mention that, as actually this was the first NYE show aired as a simulcast with the recently launched MTV Canada! This was an earlier incarnation, based out of Vancouver (where they had their own TRL rip-off called Select) and Calgary, and not the more widely known Toronto-based MTV Canada with Dan Levy, Jessi Cruickshank, etc. They reference MTV Canada's launch on this NYE special (this incarnaton was mostly about airing the US MTV's programming, like they were first to air The Osbournes in Canada) when Sum-41 performed Nickelback's "How You Remind Me" which is maybe the most 2001 sentence I have ever typed haha.
They've done like what our elderly generation did; that's mix live action with animation, this footage took place when 2001 came to a close. The year 2002 has just gotten started.
It was the New Year's Eve OF 2002. Calling it "New Year's Eve 2001" wouldn't make sense because the year 2001 would not be the New Year. In this case, 2002 was the New Year and this was airing on the eve of 2002.
On the contrary. 9/11 was why it was such a big event. Unification and patriotism was the name of the game, and besides, after a couple somber months everyone wanted to let loose a bit.

MTV will never be this cool again.
