I live near Haines City, Central Florida. My boat would be heading south through 7 locks to reach Lake Okeechobee then to the East Coast to Stuart. That starts number 1 on the Great Loop route.
All right, I'm caught up with you on your Loop Videos and have really enjoyed them. Wife and I plan to begin our loop this year here in Texas. We'll go south from our home in the Clear Lake area to begin at the beginning of the ICW. This will give us a good test run before heading east. Hope you keep us updated on your travels. Thanks for sharing!
I have liked watching your videos and following you, hope everything is okay, I am land locked in Nebraska, my wife enjoys watching your RUclips channel as much as I do. It has convinced her that we can do it too. I hope to see a new video soon. We are hoping to do the same as you are doing in about 5 years. Thank you for every thing.
Jean Mare Pisapia : I doubt my winter is going to be all that exciting. I'm planning on mostly bobbing around on this mooring ball and working on boat projects.
@@seattleboatguy Cap'n even if you don't find what you are doing exciting, others very well might find it entertaining. Seeing the day-to-day would be educational and probably helpful to others planning a Great Loop trip. Anyway, been binge watching and love the content. Thanks for what you have uploaded.
Seattleboatguy, what a great adventure and very well done on the videos and narration. I watched every episode and even looked at some portions more than once. I was sort of taking odds on if you would get done before the pandemic stopped you in your tracks. Very close call. I cannot imagine the amount of time it took you to produce and edit these videos, but your efforts are very much appreciated! Well Done! I am sure you receive many "ideas" on future videos, the one about a breakdown of expenses for the loop would be interesting. I am also curious about your overall boating experience. From the videos you appear to have spent lots of time in The Chesapeake Bay area on a sailboat. I assume that is the boat that you bought in Florida and took to The Bahamas. My wife and I are considering doing The Loop in a few years and come cruising in the Caribbean, most likely in a Trawler of some kind. Might see you around one day. Best of luck, stay safe and stay healthy. (If I could figure out how to do videos even half as well as you do, I will document our adventure.)
Hi Joel. Thank you for the very nice feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. Doing RUclips videos has a lot in common with varnishing brightwork. If you don't enjoy it, I recommend against doing it. Also, you don't need to be a pro to do either activity. But, if you have a creative streak and enjoy tinkering with the computer, making some videos might be fun for you. I mostly use Vegas Pro because they make the editing reasonably easy. But, it costs money. If you are on a lower budget, consider VSDC which is free. There are plenty of RUclips tutorials for both video editors. I sincerely hope you are able to spend some time on the Loop and the Bahamas in your own boat. We are so lucky to have those boating playgrounds so close by.
Hope you're doing well with the social distancing. I have enjoyed your videos and thank you for sharing your trip with us. I too am hoping for a financial analysis video after you cross your wake.
Another great video. Thanks. I echo Jean Marc's comments. please document your winter in Florida. I too have future plans of spending my winters on a boat in Florida. You missed a real gem in Tarpon Springs - wonderful history (Sponge industry) and great food. I am planning a trip to that part of Florida in Feb, any chance we could link up? I would certainly buy you some good meals and adult beverages for the chance to learn some of your cruising/live aboard knowledge.
12FlyVA : I have heard others say that the Sponge Industry district was very interesting. I'm sure there are other things as well (besides just the manatees). Hopefully, those who follow in my wake will take the time to check out more of that stuff.
Hey boat guy! Are you still traveling or are you firmly in lockdown? We would love to see some more of your videos. They are both entertaining and informative and we appreciate you sharing your travels with us!
John Barrett : Hi John. I had one delay due to my decision to spend the winter in Florida. Then I was delayed again by the virus. I managed to finally complete my trip in July. I'm working on the final video now, but there is still a fair amount of editing I have to do. So, we are getting closer to the final video, but we aren't quite there yet.

Hey there! I love your videos. Thanks so much. How are you doing? With the current situation? Where will you keep your boat when you finish the loop. I would love to know more about how you obtained all the insight along the way to be safe and successful. My wife I plan a trip in 2023. I have so many questions. Do you mind if I bother you from time to time? First one: trawler or monohull? You the best! Yhx
Another great video Captain. Glad to see you in warmer weather. Don't use that word "Final" any more it sounds depressing. HA HA HA. Wishing you a wonderful winter and Merry Christmas.
Where do you find your crew members that travel to you or do you already know all of them. I'm hooked just cant afford a boat. I'm looking and will do a truly budget video maybe from my 21' bayliner trophy hardtop. Thanks for all the info.
@@danielhensley5227 : The seattleboatguy is still around, but I'm in my 70s now and decided to swap the trawler for a camper van. I hope you managed to get off the night shift.
I crossed the Gulf late in November, which is still officially considered hurricane season until November 30. I feel pretty comfortable boating on the Eastern Coastal US most any time after November 1st, but others may have a different point of view.
Do you think I would be safe in my 35' houseboat from Mobile to Tampa? Open water and possibly waves have me concerned. Is there any option for safe travel hugging the Gulf Coast vs cutting straight across or doing the 4 segments? I value your experience and opinion.
Hi Shane. My knee jerk reaction to your question would be "No, you should not take your houseboat out into the open waters of the Gulf". But that opinion is worth every penny you paid for it. I am totally ignorant when it comes to houseboats, and what they are capable of. A calm day on the Gulf is probably not going to give you or even an enthusiastic canoeist much of a problem, other than boredom. But geeze, how long is the average captain going to wait for a "calm winds and no chance of thunderstorms" forecast? Most of us tend to be a bit impatient. I know I was. I got a forecast, decided it didn't sound too bad, headed out before dawn, and ended up getting spanked by Mother Nature. In my case, my boat could handle the abuse brought on by my impatience. I am just about absolutely sure that houseboats have made that passage many times. And, you will improve your odds by (patiently) waiting for a good forecast and doing the passage with a buddy boat. But with my ignorance of houseboats, I would be reluctant to try. Also, keep in mind that your houseboat will also have to deal with Albemarle Sound, the Chesapeake Bay, Delaware Bay, some portion of the Atlanta Ocean south of New York City, Lake Huron, and Lake Michigan. These are all capable of ruining your day. I encourage you to find someone much more knowledgeable than I to give you better guidance. Best wishes for a safe voyage.
Andy Visser Sr : Hi Andy. No, I do not take subscribers along, although I have met a few of them along the way, which is always fun. My goal is to give you enough information to help you along when you are ready to try the trip yourself. I hope you are able to test drive some portion of the Loop to see if it might be something you want to pursue some day.

you should do a clip about your boat specs and maybe a small breakdown of what it cost to do the loop so far.
