hi! just wanted to say thank you so much for this vlog. I’m a black girl in undergrad rn, and considering getting a phd in stem. There are so few vlogs that showcase the everyday, so thank you for making it💛💛
This was so fun to watch. I just interviewed yesterday for a NU online graduate program. Even though I don't know if I'm in yet, and won't even be on campus if I am, I still felt compelled to "experience" the school through the screen. I sometimes find vlogs boring, but this was incredibly engaging and I LOL'd more than once. Thanks!
Hi! Greetings from Brazil! Thank you so much for this video. This was so inspiring !! It made me look to my student routine in a different way. Sometimes it feels so overwhelming. And seeing that another girl in a completelly different university in a completelly different country is going through the same run from sun up to sun down, and still being true to herself that really makes me feel inspired to go after my life in academia. You got such a good energy! We got this!!!
I COMPLETELY relate to that feeling of overwhelm! But we really are all in this together. Wishing you a very fruitful and positive experience in academia 💓
When it comes to hair, shaving your hair is a commitment and it’s for everybody. Yes it’s freeing but it’s also a spiritual warfare. I’ve shaved my head three times and each time was a healing process for me🥰
Omg I did not think I’d actually find videos of NU PhD life on here! I searched it because I’ve been considering making videos like this and wanted to see if anyone else had too. Fellow NU PhD here! ☺️
Wow I'm so glad I found this video and your channel! I'm an incoming undergrad freshmen at NU (class of 26 hehe) and although I know my experience will be diff from yours, it was rlly fun to see the campus and surrounding city from your point of view :) Also I absolutely love your editing style, little animations, and font choices - and the bg music! Overall an amazing video and will def be subscribing for more cat content hehe
Thank you Ashley that really means a lot!!🥺💗Also excited you’ll be at NU in the fall congratulations! 🎈🎉 I looked at your channel and absolutely love your vids! Your filming skills in the cinematic day in your life video was next level ✨
Yayayaya she’s baaaack. Cute vlog. You’re a natural/so funny lololol. Ok I have a question - so you were in Texas before? Was that only because of classes being totally virtual orr? Re Hair - As you can prob see in my dp I had a shaved head and it is totally freeing!!! Would recommend, although your head is hella exposed = cold 😅. But, I literally have never thought about my hair *less*, except the upkeep re shape ups was a bit much ‘cause my hair grew so much faster after shaving it off. I miss it! Right now I’m almost two month loc’d, which is a different kind of freeing and a lesson in patience. Patricia Hill Collins writes about Black women resisting hegemonic controlling imagery and this also connects to hair/beauty standards etc - totally resonates with what you were saying at the end... I draw from her book ‘Black Feminist Thought’ heavily in my research. Ok bai ☺️
temI! i always love reading you're comments--you're so sweet. okay soooo in order---yes I was in texas for the entire first year because all my classes were online. plus i honestly thought i would be a little lonely if i moved to chicago all by myself because i knew i wanted to live alone. i'm really happy i waited a year to move up! also allowed me to save my money to finance the move. i love patricia hill collins! i've read a few excerpts from "black feminist thought" over the years and she's amazing. obviously a black feminist thought superstar !! really appreciate you making that link (:
Hey! I'm so glad I came across your RUclips channel. I am interested in attending Northwestern for their African American PhD program and had a few questions regarding the campus. How far is it from "the city"? How is the academic climate? How is the social climate? How is the PhD program, in terms of faculty and peer interaction? What were some things you did to ensure admittance?
Hi Keyana! SO exciting that you're thinking about the AfAm PhD program. 1) The Evanston campus is about an hour away from downtown Chicago via public transit. 2) Our department is really hands on! Folks care about your success and it shows. You won't have to track down advisors for help or attention. 3) I would say in general grad students tend to be a little more solitary, but we do socialize every once in a while! 4) Faculty and peer interaction is respectful and warm! Everyone cares about the work we're doing. 5) I participated in the Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) the summer between my junior year and senior year. This allowed me to apply for the program early and be admitted early!
I’m interested in attending NU for grad school. They’re literally my top 3 choices 😃. So, I’m happy that I came across your video! Did u skip ur masters & head straight into a PhD? Also, are you fully funded by NU? Like do they cover your full tuition & housing?
Hi! I love your video🥰I was wondering do you stay on campus or off campus apartments ? I’m currently applying to PhD programs. My biggest concern is housing 😩
Aww thank you! 🥰 I personally live off campus. I think many if not most grad student opt for that so they can find a space that fits their style. I also have a cat so I don’t think I’d be able to live on campus with him. I hope that helps! ✨
I will be attending NU as a phd student in this fall! Loved the video. Can I ask you where do u live? I am from Brazil, so I am completely lost about housing and the best neighbors to live
That’s amazing, congratulations!! What field are you pursuing your degree in? And yes I would say anywhere from Uptown further north will make the Evanston campus pretty accessible. Most grad students live in Rogers Park since it’s so close to campus. I hope that helps! ✨
@@ravenreveals communication fiel! Specifically, my phd is in media, technology and society. Thank you so much for the tip! Can’t wait to move to Chicago! Your videos are making me even more excited 😅
Hi! So happy to hear you enjoyed the video (: there is tons of great off campus housing. Really depends on how far away from Evanston you do/don’t want to be. Evanston can be pretty pricey so that’s something to keep in mind! Typical Collegetown price gouging unfortunately
thanks for watching friends! feel free to let me know if you have any questions about grad life, phd programs, or northwestern (:
Am a big fan of your RUclips videos . Keep it up .
I'll need your help in making my college decisions , how can I contact you ?

Black girl considering a humanities phd and looking at programs in the Chicago area so this was so helpful!! Thanks for sharing :)

Your hair show you are a PhD student. 😂 I really enjoyed this vlog. I’m starting to look at getting braids so I don’t worry about my hair too much
Hey! Beautiful video!❤
Do PhD students face ragging in the campus, especially if they've a different background?

In your opinion would a Grad school version of Community be funnier or a Grad school version of HIMYM/FRIENDS
