    Awesome. I never knew what level to clean up. It's such a pain after a regular gas grill using tinfoil - wrap up the foil and you're done. Griddle cleaning is new damned chore. But with a couple of wipes of this and that, using that steam, it isn't so bad after all. Although I would NOT use my bare hands on a wet towel on a hot surface. That will burn instantaneously.

    Good video, thanks! I usually scrape it off, add water (while warm yet), then scrape it all in the grease catch. Then finish it off with a good wipe down and occasionally a scrubber. But a simple wipe down is usually fine. I like to throw some PAM on the surface and cover it. A lot of people forget that step. I enjoy your vids, keep it up and I'll get around to posting my own videos some day lol

    How we did it at the base was while hot we scrap with wall knife as he just did, We then used seltzer water and a scouring pad made for griddles, after a light scrubbing with the seltzer water and a scouring pad then wipe with a towel as he did. Video brought back sum memories. Thanks.

    I just reseasoned my griddle and have oiled it 4 times since to get the perfect seasoning but it looks splotchy all over and the surface has a sticky type of feel to it. Not sure what I am doing wrong, anyone else have the same issue? Also I used sesame oil since I couldn't find the flax seed oil recommended anywhere.

    • @davidkonnor2671
      @davidkonnor2671 7 лет назад +1

      Emily, most say flax seed oil is the best for seasoning, but you can use Crisco or a vegetable oil. The pam after cleaning just coats the surface to prevent rusting during non use kind of like you would oil a gun to protect it.

    What about the sides? The grill I cook on by the end of the day, usually has a load of grease on it to the point where it's dark brown to black. I have to use a cleaning brick but I'm wondering if there's a better way to clean it since the brick just takes off like 1 layer of grease before I have to clean the brick and go back at it again lol

    • @FoodPornNetwork

    We use a "Grill Brick" for cleaning. They can be bought at the restaurant supply or on Amazon rather inexpensively. I never use water on my grills. Oil the grill, scrub with grill brick, scrape, wipe with cloth, re-oil...done. Takes just a few minutes. Amazon...Grill Cleaning Brick pack of 12- 19.60. They last a long time and many cleanings with each brick.

    • @FoodPornNetwork

      It depends if its outside or not really, I used to keep mine in garage and have not used it for probably almost a year once and it was fine, if outside like mine is now I would think it might get rusty if not used monthly or so.

    So my brother gave me his 36" blackstone griddle when he moved. I have never owned one and he did not fully take care of it as it should of been I think. Its been sitting in my garage all winter. The problem, the cooking top has a thick layer of sticky residue on it, should I heat it up, scrape it off, and re-season? I don't know if he cleaned it or not the last time he cooked so its probably very old food residue. Is there any cleaners to help clean it? I saw a citrus cleaner at my work, no chemicals in it, but I was just reading how you do not want acidic foods on the griddles.
    So my question. Should I just follow the standard cleaning procedures?
    Thanks!

    • @FoodPornNetwork
      @FoodPornNetwork  8 лет назад +3

      +Nick “nickharde7” Harde Mine came new with a nasty thick oil on it, I cant remember what its called but they use it on alot of stuff. I would do as you said, just heat it up on med high heat for a while and use a scraper toscrape off the goo, and use wet towels and wipe up the crap or use paper towels, I found cheap small towels are better and you can wash and reuse, them. I dont think you need any chemicals, heat kills the nasties. Re-season after clean and you will be good to go.

      @jerryhubbard4461 7 лет назад +3

      if the surface is not black, you don't use it enough. Seasoning of the surface is carbon baked on by oil. This keep it from rusting and makes the surface slick making it easier to cook on.

      @badlucklazyguy 4 года назад +1

      What do you consider "too much water"? ;) The small amount used in this video to work up steam is fine (I do the same thing.) I wouldn't be super worried about cracking this griddle top as it's pretty thick 10-gauge carbon steel. Warping could be more of a concern - just don't go pooring ice cold/cold water all over the griddle while it's 400F. I've gotten to the point to where I skip the water step and just clean the gunk off the top, crank the heat on high, let it burn off for a bit and wipe it down with a coating of oil (basically re-seasoning) and put it away. Same process I use for my cast iron skillets.

    You're a little irresponsible here showing placing a wet towel with your bare hand onto a heated surface. One of the worst burns you can get is from steam and if not careful that is what you will get. Please provide warning to prevent terrible burn.
