    Actually Mayweather did ruin boxing. Maybe inadvertently but still. He sold the idea that being undefeated was the be all and end and if you'd lost a fight, you were considered finished. And people bought into this. Hence why fighters and promoters tend not to take risks and cherry pick to preserve their 0.

      The addition of multiple sanctioning bodies is the reason Boxing has degraded to almost Pro Wrestling levels of legitimately. The Executives of the crooked sanctioning bodies are then bribed, wined and dined by the corrupt promoters to manipulate the rankings and break rules in that promoters fighters favor. Then you end up with the possibility of having these same crooked promoters representing four different fighters being recognized as a “world champion” all at the same time. Now add the backstage politics to this and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand this. It’s going to take a enormous amount of reform starting with mandatory unification of all champions in all weight classes to establish one true champ per class like in the days of legends such as Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Suger Ray Robinson. The bodies would be downgraded and cease to hold any relevancy all while being regarded in the same manor as minor bodies such as the IBO. This or a plan similar is the only way to begin to restore boxing to the greatness and legitimacy it once held something sadly I have little faith I will live to see in my lifetime.

    The problems with professional boxing can be summond like this;
    1. To many weight-divisions.
    2. To many major organisations = WBC, WBA, IBF & WBO + The Ring Magazine title who represents the lineal championship.
    3. The organisations demand only ONE title fight per YEAR!
    4. Organisations like WBC & WBA have TO MANY belts out. Silver champion, Gold champion, Regular champion, Emeritus champion, Franchise champion.... it is
    just making them worth nothing. In the past, there was; The World title, the Interim title, The Commonwealth title, the European title, the NABF title.
    Back then these titles was THE championship belts to go for (depending on world region for some) and the world title was THE main goal. Simple.
    5. The Networks should not be involved for getting a championship match made = They should deal that with 50/50 from airing the fight. Simple.
    6. The promotors should not be in the way for making a fight the fans want regardless of if they have that fighter in there stable or not.
    7. The judges corruption and biases....the oldest problem there is.
    8. The fights are not universally regulated with anti-drug tests in a regulated system.
    9. Fighters today are simply put work lazy. They fight to less and having only 1-3 fights per year is just not enough. Fighters just back in the 80's fought 3-5 times a
    year as champions! Today many just come out 1 or 2 times at top a year.
    10. That freakin "0". To many fighters take a false pride in being undefeated - despite that means NOTHING if you have not fought any serious opposition.
    A fighter who have losses, but still been a true level boxer and/or go for avenging those losses improve career legacy. Not by pretending.
    11. Chreey picking - That freakin cherry picking to constantly see boxers pick easy fights and avoidence of opponents that are both better and more deserving.
    To many journymen level gets miltiple shots while the really good ones have to stand in a long time wait and only at mandatory get that shot!
    To many great boxers grow old and loses there prime years because of this. Sonny Liston, Luis Ortiz, Marvin Hagler etc had to wait far to long.
    12. Diva mentality from fighters like Floyd Mayweather Jr. - No matter how skilled you are, portraying as a diva, greedy and better then evreyone is tasteless,
    disrespectfull, classless and insulting to the sport.
    13. Race baiting in ANY sport is not okay. It is not okay to bring toxic race politics into it. Regardless of skin color or ethicity, all boxers are the same worth and all
    boxers are on the same line to recieve praise, admiration, critisism and legitimate frustration from fans & critics when doing questionble decisions.

    Intresting fact Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier was the first ever heavyweight world title fight with two undefeated boxers, keep in mind the first belt had been awarded almost 100 years ago at that point and this only occured because of Ali going to Jail. Due to the success of this fight it then sparked some to start padding records although it was still uncommon, but started to become more common as the decades rolled on, until bascially Mayweather and then it became standard practice.

    It's so unfriendly for newcomer fans too. With the network thing, so many belts and guys with "perfect records" out there you've got no clue what fight to look forward to except for when the big names are featured, while the two main sports I follow, Football and Tennis, have easy to distinguish rankings and tournaments. It's almost as if the people in charge didn't want more fans, which is a disgrace as I grew up watching Ali repeats and would love to finally get on track.

    If fury refuses to fight AJ he will NEVER be counted as having beaten the best of his era. I mean my god, he’s only beat an old klitschko and wilder. And he says he’s retiring because ‘there’s always going to be someone else to fight’ ? That’s called a boxing career Tyson. When Ali was at 32 fights you didn’t see him saying that- he went on to have ANOTHER THIRTY FIGHTS all through the 1970’s beating the best of that era as well. Still the ONLY 3 time lineal heavyweight champion, and the only man to ever KO foreman in George’s 81 fights. Fury is TERRIFIED of losing his ‘0’ that’s why he’s retiring. Thinks he can sit with Rocky Marciano lol FORTY NINE FIGHTS unbeaten. I can’t think of ANY GREAT FIGHTER WHO RETIRED AT 32 FIGHTS. Sugar ray Robinson had 193 fights!!

  • @michaelh.117
    @michaelh.117 Год назад +1

    It's not the fighters' fault they don't fight the best competition. The promoters don't want to split purses with other promoters. Every promoter's default setting is the all-Top-Rank card, the all-Golden-Boy card, the all-Matchroom card, etc. If the best two fighters in a weight class are under exclusive contract with different promoters, that fight's never gonna happen.
    Plus, the promoters are risk-averse. They protect their investments. De la Hoya knows he can make a fortune out of Garcia fighting nothing but B+ fighters. "Why risk my golden goose against REAL competition?" Someday Garcia will be emailed a championship, perhaps more than one, so that the sanctioning bodies can take a percentage, but he'll never fight any of the dozen or so guys in his general weight range who could puncture his 0. And he's not the only one. And again, it's not his fault.

    In the old days before TV or at least adequate TV, a number of judges, three of course were located at different points around the ring. This gave an overall picture of the fight and each judge scored the fight on what they saw. These days however the judges should rule on the same fight we are all seeing. There is actually no need for them to even be ringside. They should watch the fight on TV as we do and judge the same fight that we see. Nothing pisses me of more than a judge getting a score so far wrong. This goes to the credibility of the sport. Make them all watch the same fight and judge the same fight. Let them see the slow motion, the replays, the whole bit. The old judging method was necessary in it's day but like all other sports, let's developed judging in light of modern technology.

  • @mditt7
    @mditt7 2 года назад +1

    Boxing isn't like other sports mainly because there is more at stake. Other sportsman don't put anywhere near as much on the line as a fighter does when he enters the ring. In the old days, fighters were hungrier and fought more regularly and against whoever. Mismatched fighters were allowed to pummel each other into oblivion and there were a lot of tragedies . These days the money is so exorbitant at the top level that they are able to stall and pick and choose. Why wouldn't you? There is a lot on the line...your health...perhaps your life. Professional fighters at any weight level hit like sledge hammers to the head.

And the fights in general would be more enjoyable for the viewers if a fighter knows what he's doing isn't scoring so well.. as I feel a lot of boxers don't switch it up because nobody has any fucking idea where they stand score wise. It's the strangest thing really. Ultimately it just leads to accusations of backhand corruption, justifiably with some awful daylight robbery decisions happening every year..
    Open scoring for sure, and maybe 5 judges 3 for a majority.
    Either way it needs modernising and fighters required to fight by deadline or lose rankings.. It's a complete mess at the moment taking literally years in between fights.

    Separate prize fighting out of contention for belts? It's the mandatory fights system that seems to have broken down/ not challenged the return to prize fighting? Put those on the same level as the wrestling mess and let real contenders fight for belts. You may have found the solution ... boxing leagues ...and a separate champions (prize fighting) league. Sorted 😃

    Boxing needs a league where everyone fights everyone

    Even though this is a comedy channel I can feel the frustration behind this video. If some much needed changes were made to the sport it could easily rival the popularity of the 70s - it's like a 10/10 bird who eats Maccies all day long, cuts her hair off and hides indoors. So much wasted potential!!

    It's mainly all the American promoters , their fill of greed and jealousy , they don't wanna give other promotions limelight or fighters that aren't from their promotion , Leonard Ellerbe is the prime example , look what their diong with Ryan and tank Davis they keep putting these dudes with a bunch of scrubs just so they can keep their record clean , it's the promoters that have ruined it and they don't care they will continue operating their way

    I grew up with boxing I considered raw, honest and thrilling. I watched Hearns, Sugar Ray, Hagler, Benn, McGuigan, Ali, Foreman, Tyson, Watson, Spinks. Alan Minter anyone ? John Cometh, Joe Bugner, Kirklaind Lang, Lloyd Honeyghan, Steve Collins. It was my life and they were my heroes. When Iron Mike's career ended, so did that era for me. For me they remain the golden years. Today's fighters just don't engage me like they used to, is not the same sport. And MM f***ing A 'fighters' should stick to the playground... Boxing has been been destroyed. But I have a shelf full of home recorded vhs tapes to hold my memories dear. Greatest fight ever for me ? Benn v McClellan... thoughts always with McClellan and Michael Watson. True warriors...
