This is how I make music too. Most of the time just sit down and go with a feeling literally starting from nothing. It's more natural and actually feels less "machine" like.
I have a couple more videos to come that are in a very similar fashion to this one. Creativity is unique to each one of us and focusing on that is much more beneficial to actually get a track together to start refining and making it a final version.
That particular bassline you ended up with reminds me quite a lot of early 00s garage house and deep house; a lot warmer and more soulful in contrast to the melodic techno you said you were going to do, which leans more towards a dreamy, surreal vibe. Just goes to show many different directions you can go from with a simple 909--based 4/4 beat
True the bass does not scream melodic techno but this is something I am going to experiment with to breathe some of my own style into the genre. 🙂 Got a relax break coming up so plenty of time to just experiment.
It does give off Strictly Rhythm or Madhouse Record vibes doesn't it! Really good Demis, you made a great garage house banger for sure, even if that wasn't your intention! Hahaha!
Are you able to do a vid on mixing a track ready for mastering? I'm starting doing Uplifting Trance, but my mixes just sound quiet, lacks any 'oomph' and doesn't sound remotely professional. Things like Gain Staging, compression, limiting are areas I'm needing to improve on.
There are a couple of videos here on my channel however a more up today walkthrough including mixing and mastering is my Uplifting trance tutorials series with Born to Produce. The first 3 episodes are free on their RUclips if you want to check it out. 😎
I've been very good not buying any plugins for a year. The thing that puts me off most is having the time to learn something new. Takes me away from being creative and making music
Once you have the main tools every other tool is an addition to your collection based on your own taste. There is the aspect that some plugins have a simpler or better workflow which then is a good reason to add them.
Most platforms come with awesome plugins. Cubase and ableton for instance have some insane plugins installed by default. Even the Steinberg Retrologue VST is phenominal! Plugins from the likes of Valhalla bring something unique to the table, but don't be fooled by the many videos you see of people using third party plugins because as good as they are, their not a necessity! You could have the all the best plugins in the world and still produce crap music.

@@demishellen I will treat myself to something once I get to a new level in production.
