Absolutely true! So sad to see, that nowadays kids grow up without spending much time with their own parents and siblings. They never experience deep and meaningful relationships with their own family, because most of their time, is being spend with their peers, homework or playstation. So time is not on their side. Going to school teaches them never to question anything, just sit down and shut their mouth, be silent, and obedient. Learning New Things should be a happy experience and has nothing to do with Stress, fear of failure, memorizing boring facts and pressure.

After retiring from the US Army, then serving as a Police Officer for 3 1/2 years, I spent the last of my VA to attend ECU's first COHERT class and received my Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT). I then taught for 13 1/2 years in a Title I school in North Carolina. Some of the things/beliefs I still carry:
    1. "We have eradicated ignorance, but stupidity still holds the high ground".
    2. "Being in a leadership position (Principal, Assist Principal) does not make you a leader. It simply gives you the power of the pen over others. How you chose to use that power is what defines your leadership ability."

I don’t want a nation of thinkers. I want nation of workers.
    - John D Rockefeller
School is a twelve-year jail sentence where bad habits are the only curriculum truly learned. I teach school and win awards doing it. I should know.
    - John Taylor Gatto
Although teachers do care and do work very, very hard, the institution is psychopathic-it has no conscience. It rings a bell and the young man in the middle of writing a poem must close his notebook and move to a different cell where he must memorize that humans and monkeys derive from a common ancestor.

There’s so much wrong information circulating about unschooling, from in and outside the homeschooling community. Unschooling isn’t about NOT teaching your kids; it’s about teaching them to how to love learning. Then they are equipped to take on academics when they are ready. I don’t get what’s controversial about that.
