A short demonstration of what is possible with AviSynth and VirtualDub.
You can see a TV recording from 1988. This I found on a VHS tape.
The recording is very bad and full of faults and errors.
In the following video you can on the left see the finished result,
and on the right is the unedited original.
Not everything fixed, but in acceptable condition (I think ;).
Comments, recommendations and suggestions are welcome.
Thank you and best regards.
Musty
Capture process and source:
- captured with a TBC and an USB Grabber
- OS: Windows 7 64bit
- VirtualDub 1.10.4 32bit used
- uncompressed captured
- 12,2GB capture size
- duration 10min
- YUV, PAL, interlaced, 720x576, 25fps, 4:2:2, 16bit, 5:4
Processing with AviSynth:
- used Version 2.6.0.4 (MT - 20130928)
- 32bit Version
- running on ASUS P9D WS
- with Intel XEON E3-1230v3 @ 3,3GHz
- 16GB RAM
- processing speed 13fps
- CPU load 40%
- filter used: RemoveDirt, yadifmod, TemporalDegrain, DeSpot
- matched filter parameters
Compression and the result:
- Xvid MPEG-4 codec used
- Version 1.3.2
- Profile @ Level "Xvid HD 720"
- Encoding type: Single pass
- Target quantizer: 5.00
- 207MB final size (with Audio)
- YUV, progressiv, 1280x720, 25fps, 4:2:0, 8bit, 16:9
Tons of detail loss in the rocks at 5:00 :(
Yeah my dear Churchill
I think you're right!
So it makes me think that the fixing effect should be used for certain frames and for others don't. So in certain way we could make the whole work a little bit better using our own discretion to determinate what is needed 😄☺️🤗
Can you paste the script that you used to achieve this? Thank you!
Can you share the .avs settings you used? Amazing result!!!!!
x2 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks a lot for sharing this
It is really helpful 💖😄☺️😍😘
Not a perfect result. Chroma shift and vertical shakeness should have been fixed.
Вараздат Викаэлов As I have already written - there is still much to be optimized :) But thanks for the tip.
The original is more crispier, so it is not worth it.
Share the script
very very good results ... can you post more information on your method please
There's some uncorrected horizontal chroma shift left.
Impressive!
If you used a TBC that fixes most of the stuff right there. But not everybody has $250 to buy a TBC.
Which filters did you use??
Leandro Soares Costa Read the description.
use autoadjust for the levels , just add a little sharp(0.8) or unsharpmask and it will be perfect
Would you like to this one of my video to see if the result might be really good?
may i know what tbc you used for this project?
Hi. It was the TBC-Enhancer made by electronic-design.
i completely flopped at this. i wish you would explain a bit further
especially to remove those annoying little lines. especially in my case white little lines
Текст скрипта в студию плиз! :)
What the script's text?
Capture process and source: 4:2:2, 16bit. Compression and the result: 4:2:0, 8bit? Why on Earth did you remove all the precious colors information? I find this quite strange because reducing the colors. Video compression is not like JPEG compression. Here is a really good example of why 4:2:2 is so important ruclips.net/video/25rbgIvxeBE/видео.html
Do people still use ancient tools like Virtualdub for this? I find it's not worth it because the application is not optimized for modern CPUs. Instead I just use denoise and sharpen in VidCoder after capturing in OBS with the lossless compression setting.
Yes, it's still used because it has the best filters and functions for this. And denoising can be done with NeatVideo. Capturing with OBS is bullshit because it's not intended for digitizing VHS recordings. Use a DVD recorder or VirtualDub2 for this.
how can I convert SD waifus into HD waifus?
lol, Use after effects.
skyof
Crap. No idea which is which.
If you had a look in the video description would have known it ;) But I'll gladly help you there. Quote: "In the following video you can on the left see the finished result,
and on the right is the unedited original. " If you have further questions, feel free to contact me.
Lots of people would be grateful for the script you used, Musty ;)
