I love that this game took forever to finish. I hate when gameplay is done and the storyline finishes, but there's nothing left to do. The countless side quests made this game great.
I've seen several Dragon Quest DS games at a store nearby and I felt like getting this one. I've never played any of the dq games but now for some reason I want to try at least one for the heck of it.
@blob23ful Correction. This looks to be an earlier build of the game, where it was more action-based with a live-action combat style. Somewhere along the lines of development, someone decided to revert back to their traditional turn-based combat...either that or this is what Japan got while we got what we have. Either way, this is still Dragon Quest IX.
I can't wait for it too!! I played Dragon Quest 4 but didn't get very far, but I played 7 and still didn't beat it, I only beat 1, and the rest was halfway through...
actually square enix are also releasing a game called 'it's a wonderful world' which is suprising because it enters the beat em up genre which didnt work last time they tried it... i hope it's good
The great thing about the Dragon Quest series is that they don't try and change it too much. Unlike Final Fantasy, the DQ series has managed to always keep certain "core elements" that give the series its feel and sort of "tie the games together." My biggest fear is that the Square-Enix merger will eventually cause the DQ series to go astray like FF did... Thankfully DQ8 stayed pretty true to the series. I just hope they don't blow it with DQ9.... *fingers crossed*
For a DS game that looks AMAZING! I loved VIII, i just hope that this one lives up to it. I wonder if S-E will ever release I-VII for the Wii virtual console or the PlayStation Network? Enix do seem to like going multi-platform with the series :D
Ok so it's been about a day since I got this game (my first Dragon Quest game) and I love it! Is there any other DQ ds games you guys reccomend when I finish this?
Wow. The early version of this game looks more different than I thought it would. Those real-time battles looked very interesting, if not very conventional. Can't say the same about the interface. I know it's early in the development, but THAT kinda threw me for a split-second. My main complaint, however, is that if the game was originally announced for 2007, yet launched in 2009 (two years afterwards), why didn't they use that amount of time to make the frame rate smoother than 30? I tested with an emulator, and, believe me, it looks sexy at 60 FPS, just like the Dancer's Costume. Surely they could've optimised it a bit in the span of two years between then and now? (I wouldn't mind frame-rate drops as long as it's not just lazily capped at 30 FPS.)
wow i looked at this trailer like a few years ago. when is it comin out in europe. Must say the gameplay graphics looks awsome maybe it will be just as good as the Zelda graphics
@Skyru55 No. it's the original version. But they found out it's a bit bad so they need for 2 years reviewing many times and changing. Just like how people review their poster over and over before presentation.
Is the Australian one different to the Japanese? Like the equip screen looks different, the characters face looks wierd, the characters running around aren't single file(or was it footage of multiplayer?). Is this a beta version? Because a lot of it looks wierd/different. Please answer, because i have seen lots like this one. Thanks.
One of the elite top-tier RPG's of the past 20 years sees it's latest iteration appear on a hand held in 2008? This must be all just an elaborate ruse.
@MALAKAI98 i love final fantasy but the newer ones story lines don't make any sense anymore and yeah I only love the 5th and the 8th dragon quest games
Great! Gotta finish DQ8 first, and fast. The more this game gets back to reminding me of the first 3 games in the series the better... but it seems this will be more close to DQ8 with some kinda Zelda battle style? Anyways, I just got Rocket Slime. Can't wait to play it. :D
@Ktothex The original game was planned to be an action rpg. But the Japanese fans (of which there are many) did not like it so Square made it turn based the end result is the game we have today.
good thing im not a fan of the DQ games if not i could cry for being this game in the DS instead of a console (i own a DS,but major games like this should be in consoles)
wtf damit its the same one as dragon quest the cursed king and ive passed that game 3 times and the levels r 99 too arent they going to come out with a diferent one?
@myan7771 woah you are going good , lemme give ya some tips : priest is good ... minstrel sux ... they arent really that good , its best ot change your main char into a warrior or some mayor dmg dealer , warriors are always the slowest , but the strongest .. martial artists pwn ( especialy with claws) and mages are good to , only i changed my mage at lvl 20 to some other job because she did low dmg , i talk to ya in a message since im running out of space
Dragon Quest 6, Dragon Quest Monsters :Joker, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2, and if you have a PS2 Dragon Quest 8 is so good because its extreme 3D and even better then DQ9 even if DQ9 is their best DS DQ game.
Being a Professional is a financial living arrangement. You can't be a professional at playing games or football or painting unless you are in a league to merit a substantial amount of money from it in the long-run.
@bubblescheats yeah i think that i would prefer the fighting like in the trailer , moving fighting , only thing i wouldn't enjoy would ne the char models , they dont look as good as with the actual game , tobad they changed it because i could live with that if i could get full real time battles
@WarriorHawkSpirit Wait is it that the whale, anyways all I did is attack, attack, attack, attack, heal, attack attack attack, heal, etc. to defeat him :D And anyone know where to get the quest to diffrent vocations, I need a ranger/archer and gladiator ?
So I guess I have to get a DS after all eh? ..and old school is buying Dragon Warrior 1 NEW from Toy's R Us (first RPG I ever bought and beat). Still have fond memories of leveling my character to the max Level (30). And is it me or does DQ for the Wii look cheesy and lame?
any chanse for it to be released to ps3? too bad that it is beeing released by nintendo because than it wil have a bigger chanse of beeing on wii than ps3.
Kaze whoever that guy you're arguing with is, jesus christ. I feel your pain :( Maybe he doesn't know roman numerals and is getting it confused with that DQIV remake, which was on the PS2, did look rather like a DS game, and then did get a DS port, but christ. I have no idea.
That golden pear looks tasty . . . Mmmmmmm . . . DQIX pear . . . I wonder if the characters need to use the restroom?? I mean seriously, characters never need to go to the bathroom. Maybe it is just assumed when they go to the inns. But I would like some confirmation. God, I mean they never even eat either unless it is part of the story or you give them herbs. OMG!, are they vegetarians??!! They only ever eat leaves, huh? Are there hippies in Japan? OMG, and a magic pear, it all makes sense
I totaly Agree with ya ! I play DQ8 on PS2, looks like Nintendo has done it again... making a bieautifull game looking childish (cf. Zelda on SNES and Zelda GC, GBA...)
I love that this game took forever to finish. I hate when gameplay is done and the storyline finishes, but there's nothing left to do. The countless side quests made this game great.
This game is so amazing!
I've seen several Dragon Quest DS games at a store nearby and I felt like getting this one. I've never played any of the dq games but now for some reason I want to try at least one for the heck of it.
sad that this game couldnt come out like this in the trailer
looked like a zelda game :D with rpg elements
@blob23ful
Correction. This looks to be an earlier build of the game, where it was more action-based with a live-action combat style. Somewhere along the lines of development, someone decided to revert back to their traditional turn-based combat...either that or this is what Japan got while we got what we have. That theme music is so cool! Love it!
I can't wait for it too!! I played Dragon Quest 4 but didn't get very far, but I played 7 and still didn't beat it, I only beat 1, and the rest was halfway through...
@PaperRayman I investigated and this was the first trailer. After the first trailer there was 3 years of development before the game came out!
actually square enix are also releasing a game called 'it's a wonderful world' which is suprising because it enters the beat em up genre which didnt work last time they tried it... i hope it's good
@PaperRayman In this the trailer the game seems like a RPG (live action game). But the english version is a turn combat game!!
The great thing about the Dragon Quest series is that they don't try and change it too much. Unlike Final Fantasy, the DQ series has managed to always keep certain "core elements" that give the series its feel and sort of "tie the games together." *fingers crossed*
OMG THATS SO KOOL!!! i just got my first ds dragon quest n loved it...and chrono trigger! cant wait to get the newest one and THIS one! lol
theen we shall wait for its release!! this games going to be the best!! designing your character and choosing his look is just cool!!
For a DS game that looks AMAZING! I loved VIII, i just hope that this one lives up to it. I wonder if S-E will ever release I-VII for the Wii virtual console or the PlayStation Network? Enix do seem to like going multi-platform with the series :D
I'm confussed, so is there like 2 diffrent dragon quest IX?
Ok so it's been about a day since I got this game (my first Dragon Quest game) and I love it! Is there any other DQ ds games you guys reccomend when I finish this?
slow down buddy, we all know this game will rock!!
I just started DQ VIII so this is going to be perfect :)
Wow. The early version of this game looks more different than I thought it would. Those real-time battles looked very interesting, if not very conventional. Can't say the same about the interface. Looks very beautiful , i m gonna buy DQIX for the Nintendo Wii most probably :-)
wow i looked at this trailer like a few years ago. when is it comin out in europe. Must say the gameplay graphics looks awsome maybe it will be just as good as the Zelda graphics
I second ArkonLuneth. The DS is really being loved right now.
@Skyru55
No. it's the original version. But they found out it's a bit bad so they need for 2 years reviewing many times and changing. Just like how people review their poster over and over before presentation.
@1stpltpkmnTR first it could be that its the japanese version only, and that its 4 years before its been released so it is different
I want this game, but I haven't ever played any of the previous ones. Does the story of this game have anything to do with the other ones?
Is the Australian one different to the Japanese?
Like the equip screen looks different, the characters face looks wierd, the characters running around aren't single file(or was it footage of multiplayer?). Is this a beta version? Because a lot of it looks wierd/different.
Please answer, because i have seen lots like this one.
Thanks.
2007?! That's 2 years ago! It's just release last Thursday... In Japan.
is such a BIG adventure for a litle console.
just amazing!!!!!
THIS GAME IS NEVER ENDING!!!!
Ahhhhhh!!! my eyes just exploded with joy!Ahhhhhhhhh!!
One of the elite top-tier RPG's of the past 20 years sees it's latest iteration appear on a hand held in 2008? This must be all just an elaborate ruse.
This looks amazing
That's because the designs and art are done by Akira Toriyama who drew and wrote Dragonball.
Gragon Quest series are the best. Hope there'll be a ps3 version coming as well.
i played fore and same as you i haven't beet it yet so man i wished i did but oh well i can still play 8 and 9 when 9 comes out i hope!
Can't wait till July 11th
This game was fckin AWSOME!
I hope they make another like it
this game looks cool. when does it come out.
its for the ds right?
@MALAKAI98 i love final fantasy but the newer ones story lines don't make any sense anymore and yeah I only love the 5th and the 8th dragon quest games

@Ktothex The original game was planned to be an action rpg. But the Japanese fans (of which there are many) did not like it so Square made it turn based the end result is the game we have today.
Mine is different...
It goes into a random pokemon-like thing for battles, and the graphics are much different.
It is Dragon Quest IX DS...?
i have a R4 card but im gonna buy this
so that we can enjoy dragon quest until we die
thumbs up!
Cool. Looks like a movie trailer.
when does this game come out in the US?or is it out??
good thing im not a fan of the DQ games if not i could cry for being this game in the DS instead of a console (i own a DS,but major games like this should be in consoles)
nice thing that it comes out for ds i have ds and im sure im gone buy this dragon quest rulz!!
what do you mean? r there different ones whith dif stories for the ps2 or ps3?
wtf damit its the same one as dragon quest the cursed king and ive passed that game 3 times and the levels r 99 too arent they going to come out with a diferent one?
this is at the top of my list of games to buy. my only fear is that, since that it's on a nintendo system, that they might make it to easy.
When is this game getting released on DS in EU or USA?
I love customizing characters!!! awesome game!!
If this game doesn't see a U.S. localization I will cry.
Glad they went with Turn based, that Zelda like combat looked terrible.
wow, this is going to be huge
@myan7771 woah you are going good , lemme give ya some tips : priest is good ... minstrel sux ... they arent really that good , its best ot change your main char into a warrior or some mayor dmg dealer , warriors are always the slowest , but the strongest .. martial artists pwn ( especialy with claws) and mages are good to , only i changed my mage at lvl 20 to some other job because she did low dmg , i talk to ya in a message since im running out of space

@axedry1991 If you mean by this that it's on a different system.
(Probably the NES or Famicon)
You're wrong. >>
This was never on anything BUT the DS
Looking good :D
whens it coming out o.o unless it did already -.-"
thats so much cooler then way it is
I got this game yesterday ^^
Nope. The main game is going to the DS. There's not really a problem with that. It's still going to be amazing xD
Good thing they kept the original gameplay in the final (but I wouldn't be against an action rpg spinoff)
real name= Dragon Quest IX: Protectors of the Sky
FYI (that's an approximate translation.)
How many files does Dragon Quest have?
The correct translation is "And, we were called angels"
The game is addicting, the only problem is that I think it should also have a internet multiplayer.
Being a Professional is a financial living arrangement. You can't be a professional at playing games or football or painting unless you are in a league to merit a substantial amount of money from it in the long-run.
i remember this music from dragon quest wars on dsi ware.
this doesn't look like DQ9. well, it said this was uploaded back in 2006, so i guess it was modified...
@bubblescheats yeah i think that i would prefer the fighting like in the trailer , moving fighting , only thing i wouldn't enjoy would ne the char models , they dont look as good as with the actual game , tobad they changed it because i could live with that if i could get full real time battles
Wait, wtf? Why is it hack an slash? is that how the multpplayer version is?
@nazacuckoo98 Yeah also thought about that. I really want the this version!
Wow, the actually finished game looks so much
different to this?
And in this video it looks like an action rpg, but its really a turn based rpg...
Well its on the DS.
What, do you expect it to be PS3-quality?
wait what? that game is 3 years old and we just now got it? wtf? US was slooow on tht game.
oh and i forgot they're releasing a cool game with that bird from ff which is also fully 3-d which also looks awesome.
@WarriorHawkSpirit Wait is it that the whale, anyways all I did is attack, attack, attack, attack, heal, attack attack attack, heal, etc. to defeat him :D
And anyone know where to get the quest to diffrent vocations, I need a ranger/archer and gladiator ?
IFKR!!! I want like a PS2 and 3DS so that I can try the more 3 Dimensional games :D
I like this unreleased version of dragon quest 9 better
I wonder if someone will translate this game on R4...
I think Im gonna be sick !
@LuigiYoshi24
Also the fighting. its not turn-based.
Anyone notice how the actual game is different from this video? lol The characters walk odd in this trailer.
@myan7771 lol you can get it xD
you can even dowload it ..... so what are you waiting for , download it or buy it =D
This was like an alpha version. The real game is a lot different.
I WANT THIS GAME
isn't it 4 players online? thats what I saw
So I guess I have to get a DS after all eh? ..and old school is buying Dragon Warrior 1 NEW from Toy's R Us (first RPG I ever bought and beat). Still have fond memories of leveling my character to the max Level (30).
And is it me or does DQ for the Wii look cheesy and lame?
well.... Dragon quest VIII came out on ps2 thats why i wonder if they just stoped selling dragon quest on ps.
any chanse for it to be released to ps3? too bad that it is beeing released by nintendo because than it wil have a bigger chanse of beeing on wii than ps3.
now i HAVE to get a DS!
Kaze whoever that guy you're arguing with is, jesus christ. I feel your pain :( Maybe he doesn't know roman numerals and is getting it confused with that DQIV remake, which was on the PS2, did look rather like a DS game, and then did get a DS port, but christ. I have no idea.
well played...
Hell Yeah!
Wonderful game
Dude It's apart of the main series not a spin off
I totaly Agree with ya ! I play DQ8 on PS2, looks like Nintendo has done it again... making a bieautifull game looking childish (cf. Zelda on SNES and Zelda GC, GBA...)
