    This is a very helpful video, not just for overwinter tips but also for the great info on storage of onions. You provided better details than I have found elsewhere. Territorial is one of my go-to seed sources. Thanks for the email pointing me to this video. I have now subscribed and hope to see more like this in the future.

    I do this every year. I am surprised that other gardeners aren't doing the same.

    Thank you! This is so useful. I’ve left some onions in the ground for winter, just to experiment and see what happens ☺️

    Thanks for the informative video! You mention 5 seeds in each cell but at planting and harvesting, I only see 1 plant per hole. What Iam I missing? :)

    How deep do you plant them in the field in Oct? How deeply should they be mulched in order to overwinter?

    • @TerritorialSeedCo
      @TerritorialSeedCo  2 года назад +2

      They were planted about 1-2 inches deep, and we didn't mulch them. Depending upon where you are and how cold it gets in the winter will dictate whether mulch is needed or if you should plant them under the protection of a cold frame or low tunnel. What zone are you located in?

    Awesome! You think this could be done with direct sowing instead of transplanting?

    • @TerritorialSeedCo
      @TerritorialSeedCo  2 года назад +2

      It is possible, but it's our experience that you'll have better success with overwintering onions if you start them indoors & transplant out.

      It depends on your zone - you could probably overwinter down to zone 6 with protection.

    The presenter makes the claim that trimming the leaves helps them produce better root systems. Might be really cool to see some academic sources to validate that assertion, maybe?? I haven't been able to find any... I'll keep looking.

      I Googled "Does trimming the leaves of onions make the bulb bigger", and got TONS of info. My takeaway is that it's all in the timing. It works, as advertised in this video, with seedlings at planting time. It does NOT work with older established onions. It's also, as shown in the video, important to cut back a bit of the leaves....not the whole thing. It's seems like an easy enough thing to do at transplanting time...I'm going to give it a try. It helps that I have always found information from Territorial Seeds to be reliable. ❤❤❤
