I grew your loofahs for the first time this year and I'm loving how beautiful of a plant they are! [They also had a fantastic germination rate - almost 100%!] Hoping to start harvesting them in the next couple of weeks, as I see a couple that are starting to finally turn yellow!
Excellent video! I have a jungle of luffa plants growing here in Georgia and wasn't sure how to find the gourds or when to pick. Guess they should be easier to find when they turn yellow! Thanks so much!
So beautiful and looks so much fun my family are really enjoying using for shower body washing everyday we bought whole long luffas cutting pieces and enjoying using together with the soaps thank you for sharing 👍👍
this video was really helpful.. I had been peeling mine before trying to get the seeds out.. soooo now I know the correct way and it will certainly make it so much better.. thank you for this informative video..
I am in Western PA and growing for the first time. I am going to eat a small one soon and have two larger so far. I am hoping for a few that don't mold. I will skip the bleach as most are planned for macaw parrot toys.
I'm growing them for the first time this year. I don't use bleach and wondered if a natural bleach (lemon, etc) would be a great natural preservative instead?
Hello! Thank you for this video! I am a soap maker and may try growing my own loofah's next year. Idk if you're familiar with MP soap aka glycerin soap, but often we fully embed the loofah slice within the soap. My question is why is it important to get all of the seeds out of the loofah? I purchased my loofah already sliced and after making several loofah soaps i noticed that some still had some seeds inside of them -- though like the loofah these seeds were white. Some months later i have noticed that some of the soaps i made before i noticed, and started carefully picking out the seeds, the center of a couple of them are browning. Most botanicals used in glycerin soaps will rehydrate and rot or mold. The fibrous part of loofah's and a few other botanicals with hydrophobic properties like dried calendula and blue corn flowers are okay and will not rot and mold. My concern is that their were seeds in those few and they might not be okay, that they could rehydrate and rot or mold. Fellow soapers are saying not to worry as the seeds cant rot same as the loofah and even though they were bleached all the way to WHITE, some of their natural brown color could just be coming through over time. If you know or have any thoughts on this i would GREATLY appreciate it! If you're not sure because it's really more of a soap question than a loofah question, i totally understand! In that case, my question to you reverts back to... why is it important to remove the seeds? Thank you in advance!!!💜💜💜
Great video! I'm going to attempt to grow loofah for the first time this year, so your video has really helped with some good info. I do have a couple of questions though.... How long do you leave them to dry for? And what type of bleach are you using?
Hi from Florida! I successfully grew luffa this year and have harvested both totally brown and yellow mature gourds from the vine. Neither one peels as easily as you show here. What is the secret of getting the skin off? I can't even get larger pieces! It seems to be sticking to the sponge. Thank you for any advice!
@@debkincaid2891,it may. I don't like the clorox option. I also saw a video that said if you harvest them while they are some what green and brown, they will come out cleaner. The browner they are, they will stain the loofah inside.
I’m in Maine and I picked mine because of frost. They are just beginning to turn yellow so there is still some green. Do you think they will dry? I guess it’s just wait and see.
I found mine in a seed catalog.. but you can find them online.. here is the list: www.google.com/search?q=loofah+seeds+for+sale&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS863US863&oq=loofa+seeds&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l5.7674j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
so I have a silly question since they are a gourd are they also edible?? Because they certainly don't look edible because I can't imagine eating a loofah!! 🤣
Wish I'd watched before I cut the huge green one!
Seriously thank you. Very informative.
It feels like I'm pulling the zip pulls on horse grain bags. I'm in love with growing luffa 😊

Glad it was helpful!
I’m growing some this year for dish sponges and bath sponges!!
Thank you, this answered a lot of harvesting questions. The prepping for using was an added bonus.
Excellent Video presentation. Subscribed, and added your page to my gardening bookmarks.
This.... is.....AMAZING!!! You're awesome and adorable and now I want a giant loofah garden. Aaaaaah ❤️❤️

Wish I watched this before I harvested all my green luffa once the vine died off 😂🙄 next year I will have success. Thank you for sharing this.
Perfect! Just the advice we needed!
We use the tapered ends for pot scrubbers.
Very helpful. Thank you for the information!
I am going to grow some, ordered seeds from Etsy, just waiting for them. I live in Florida, so hoping this will be a success
I got the seeds from you guys, I got the seeds in London, Ontario, Canada. From Anything Grows Seed Company.

You ate one? What did you think?

Sounds like you already have the answer. It's probably best to remove the seeds, if there's doubt about the mold.

Is it dry all the way?
Amazing!!! What could you use instead of clorox to whiten them abd to keep them from molding?
I'm wondering if hydrogen peroxide might work?

I'm going to check out your seeds now.

How did it go?
Worked just fine!
Can the seeds be saved and replanted?
Have been looking for the answer to this question for days now..
@@collinandry1188 Sure you can.
Yes, make sure to watch our other video about storing seeds
